This group can't really do anything to fix the problem just offer suggestion the overall finding of our report is pa is falling behind in needing to maintain roads and this is happening at the time where the state is at a need for economic growth the report goes onto say roadways are costing pa drivers about 900 annually, more than 8 billion statewide and it will get worse if there is no boost in spending, to me this is one of the most important and immediate challenges facing the commonwealth. But the announcement today is nothing new if people heard the governor this summer. When with charts and studies he talked about the state's need to repair roads and bridges showing how deteriorated and dangerous they are. The federal government denied Pennsylvania the ability to toll interstate 80 which would give a boost in funding. Today's study says Pennsylvania has a transportationfunding shortfall of 3 point 5 billion to meet highway, bridge and transporta tion needs. The study also says fixing our roads could in turn boost our economy, by addressing a lot of these infrastructure needs not only does it address needs in the short term but it makes PA a competitive place to do business. Besides asking to toll i-80 Governor Rendell has offered a couple of ideas to raise funding for infrastructure including a gas tax suggesting a profit tax on oil companies and in 2007, he unsuccess fully sought permission from his state legislature to lease the Pennsylvania turnpike over to private operators.00:07:06

In Harrisburg, that has resulted in 44% of the major roads around here in poor or mediocre conditiion and more than a third of the bridges in the area are deficient or obsolete. That results in wear and tear on ones car. But the biggest problem could be the inadequacy of the cuent roads and bridges to handle current volume. "Commuters come up from york and stay on i-83 waiting to ga access to the Harrisburg area. That delay costs them time, energy and it causes congestion in the Harrisburg area and it causes degradation of our air quality. The report says increasing investments in transportation improvements, at the local and state level could help save drivers money.00:03: Newswatch 16 At 5:30 PM WNEP-TV (ABC) CH 16, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton DMA: 54 11/23/2010, 05:30 PM - 06:00 PM [CC] 00:02:00 A transportation research group based in Washington released a new report today on roads and bridges in our area, it found that widening interstate 81 between nanticoke and scranton would cost upwards of a billion dollars --money officials say just isn't available, with the current revenue stream to penndot we can't forsee any expansion of 81. We're going to have trouble getting enough revenue to rehabilitate th bridges, the bridge decks that every other week it seems are being worked on by PENNDOT the report also found that trafficcongestionand road conditions on interstate 81 cost the average driver about 1 thousand dollars each year.00:03:13
