1 B o n n e v i l l e Y o u t h S o c c e r L e a g u e FAR POST Volume 1, Issue 1 October 2016 President s Message Brandon Lee Inside this issue: President & Directors Messages 1 BYSL Board of Trustees 2 BYSL Directors 3 Coaches Corner 4 US Soccer Chart 5 BYSL Program s 6 BYSL Club Organization 7 Tryout info for Spring Tryout and Field Schedule 9-10 Dean Cook Shootout Recap 11 (Champions/runners up) I love the game of soccer, but my favorite part is watching and coaching my four kids as they play. I recognized that there is a lot of behind the scenes work that takes place to make it all come together. That is why I was willing to volunteer my time and help out where I can. We have over 1,000 youth that participate in BYSL s programs and leagues. What that, in turn, means is that we have a lot of talented adults who are associated with these youth and are committed to helping them grow. Bottom line is WE NEED YOU! We need volunteers to share their talents and get engaged so that BYSL can not only continue to exist butcan truly progress and help develop our kids into great soccer players. My urge to you is come get involved. We know that our community has so many talented people with so much to offer. Please do not feel like you need to be a soccer expert in order to help. Many clubs around the country have limited to no volunteers and they pay their coaches and club management which means player fees can be from $300-$500 per month! As a league we have chosen to organize ourselves largely as a volunteer organization. The main benefit to that is we are able to keep fees low. But we need active and engaged people to keep it running. We exist solely to provide the structure and environment for our kids to develop as youth and as soccer players. With your help, I know that BYSL can continue to provide and improve what we offer our kids. If you have interest in helping please contact me at pres@byslsoccer.org or come to our monthly board meeting. The schedule and location for those meetings can be found on the byslsoccer.org website under the calendar tab. Brandon Lee Director s Message Jason A. Child Jason A. Child Executive Director I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jason Child. I was born in Bountiful, UT and grew up playing and loving soccer. I played in High School at Woods Cross High in Woods Cross, UT. I played club soccer for the Cougars Club in Bountiful, UT. I began coaching at age 18 and have coached for the past 16 years. I was recently hired as Executive Director for BYSL. As this is a new position by title, my responsibilities are varied and changing. One of my greatest desires as Director is to help develop BYSL and our teams to be more competitive at the State Level. I also hope to improve and maintain the great programs that are already in place with BYSL. With the exceptional men and women on the BYSL Board and who participate as coaches, mangers and supportive parents I have no doubt BYSL will only continue to improve. We are always looking for people willing to join BYSL and help us make our players and programs more successful. Contact me to join the fun by ing me at exdir@byslsoccer.org

5 Volume 1, Issue 1 Far Post Page 5 US Soccer Chart US Soccer has implemented a change in the calendar used by all soccer players in the United States beginning the season. BYSL has decided to mandate that all 13U teams will be age group exclusive and will not allow players from a younger age group to play up. 14U and up have been granted the option to allow 1 year play ups based on an evaluation and decision by the BYSL Director of Coaching. 6U to 12U may have teams made up of two year age groups.

BYSL is part of District 2 also known as the Snake River League (SRL) running from Teton and Ashton up North to Marsh Valley to the South. Games in 11U-19U may be played in any of those areas. Games generally begin the last week of March and continue through the end of May. Typically games will be played Tuesday-Thursday evenings and Saturday. Teams generally play 1 game a week and 1 or 2 on Saturday. Additional games may be scheduled in Twin Falls or Jackson Hole on Saturday at coach request if teams are available in those areas. Team Organization Though there will still be some blended birth years in age groups (ie. 6U YDP will be comprised of players born in both 2011 and 2012) we anticipate shifting to single birthyear teams. Depending on number of players in given birth years there still may teams comprised of players in two different years on the same team in the YDP and 11U/12U Programs. Lastly there will still be some older teams (re. 14U and up) that will choose to remain with their existing players based on the previous calendar used by US Soccer. This will be done at the discretion of individual Clubs and Teams.
