You can see just how true that statement is just by looking at all the great activities that this club does. Absolutely Awesome!!! Those of you that attended the hog roast were treated to a wonderful meal. A HUGE Thank You goes out to Chef Weber and his crew again, & a special Thank You to our hosts Rich and Bambi...she is such a dear. We also had another good turnout for the Happy Hour at the the Longaberger Country Club. Christian continues to locate fun and entertaining venues for these gatherings. If you have a favorite, please pass it on to him. The ladies had a beautiful weekend for their retreat. I understand that there was a lot of wine-ing going on ;) If you were unable to attend the September meeting, please attend in October as that will be the last club meeting where you can get your picture taken for the club directory. Otherwise, you will need to make arrangements with the Jon LeVeck Studio. Additionally, the October meeting will give you the opportunity to learn about signing up for the Learn to Ski Better Program at a drastically reduced rate. The December Meeting/Christmas Party will include a Silent Auction. These are always a lot of fun and you can get some real deals for you or Christmas gifts for others. 2 Page JUNE THE INS IDE EDGE THE INS IDE Page EDGE 2 3 rd Annual Halloween Party at Debbie & Matt McBride s Haunted House on Turner Rd October 27, 2012 at 6PM As you pass through the rusting gates that guard this house of the dead, you may notice an apparition of Dracula peering out from the upstairs window. A chill runs up your back as you realize- Something is very odd with this house. The disembodied souls of the thousands of victims of Tuberculosis who died across the street at the Sanitarium make their presence known on these grounds. You pass through the grim gateway of the cemetery; shock grips you as you witness the macabre mist that hovers over the graves All are invited to our Third Annual Halloween Party on October 27, 2012 at 6PM. Guests are encouraged to come in costume, but are welcome in normal attire nonetheless. Matt will prepare his famous New Orleans Jambalaya and pulled pork sandwiches. Bring a covered dish or dessert to share, and any wine of your choice. A Keg of Beer and Soft Drinks will be provided. We will have campfires roaring and straw bale couches to recline on. Bring your own camp chair, if you wish. Debbie will make sure the Buckeyes Football game is on every TV in the house (at Penn State 6pm-9PM). Smile and PAY-UP! For everyone who wasn t at the Membership Renewal Meeting in September: Your next opportunity to RENEW your membership for the next year will be on Tuesday, October 2nd at our next membership meeting. Be sure that you renew your membership before October 15th or you will need to rejoin at the higher price of $5 more per person. Also, if you did not have your photograph taken at the September meeting, please come to the October meeting to do so. Jon, of the Jon LeVeck Studio, will be taking photos for out NSC Directory at the meeting. If you cannot come to the Oct. 2nd meeting, you will need to call Jon at (740) and arrange a time to go to his studio in Newark to have your photo taken by early November. That way we can get the new Directories out at the Christmas Party in December. For everyone who was at the September Meeting and had their pictures taken, the proofs will be available for viewing at the October 2nd meeting. Gahanna has a new tapas restaurant in their Creekside development called Arapazo Tapas & Wine. Come out October 19th to check out this new place & enjoy all the things that the Gahanna Creekside offers great views, wine, fun shopping, wine, a parking garage, wine, a creek area with lights & walking paths, by the way, did I mention the wine? Why wasn t this here when I was in school?!?!?!?!?!? We will be combining our final Happy Hour with our November meeting at the Route 40 Roadhouse in Zanesville on November 9th. We had such a great time & turnout when we held our March meeting here earlier this year, that we felt we needed to do it again. Now all those members who went to Taos to ski can see what fun we had without them. So come out, have some fun, eat some grub, hang out with your friends, and gear up for the 2012 Holiday Season! The Silent ( Shhhhh ) Auction Tuesday, December 4th, 2012 This year, we are replacing the ever-popular (thanks to all of Tim Crowley s great work!) Big Raffle with a Silent Auction at our Christmas Party on Tuesday, December 4th. We have gathered some pretty amazing gifts to auction off (just read the Prez Sez article on the front-page to see the list), but we are looking for more. If you have something really cool that you just can t or don t use, please contact the President, Vice- President, or either of the At-Large Board Members to donate it to this worthy cause Running the Funnest Ski Club in the!! Since money doesn t grow on trees and Matt (our Treasurer) can t run out and harvest a few hundred dollar bills every time he has to write a check, The Silent Auction will be a great way to donate to your ski club & maybe get something you really want for cheap. Plus, haven t you always wanted to outbid a friend? Victory dance, anyone?!? The tomatoes started canning, And you got birthed! So, Happy Birthday To The Children of the Fall! (at least it ain t the Corn, right?!?) Date Changes for Meetings For Your information: Due to outside influences (the gov t. and the calendar), your board has thoughtfully changed the date on two membership meetings. Since November 6th is also Election, we won t compete with you doing your civic duty. The meeting will now be held at Route 40 Roadhouse in Zanesville on Friday, Nov. 9th, combining it with our Nov Happy Hour. So go vote, and then come out to complain about who won & who lost this time around. Our second date change comes because New Year s falls on a Tuesday in 2013, and that is just cutting it toooo close for my hangover. So we have decided to have our annual Snow Trails meeting on Saturday, January 5th. This way, you can come up and ski during the day, come to the meeting that evening, eat & drink with friends, then either go ski again and/or stay the night nearby & ski on Sunday. A really great way to get away with friends for the weekend on the cheap!!

It is that time of year to sign up for the Alpine Discovery Program or, as we know it, the Learn To Ski Better Program or the let s-go-to-snow-trails-&-have-a-goodtime-program. I am happy to run the Program this year, since I live at the Resort and am almost always available for assistance. Below are the prices and the Add-Ons. I will be giving a presentation at the Oct. Meeting and will answer all your questions. The most important bit is that when you sign up, you have to do all of the Add-Ons at THAT TIME. These are the cheapest prices offered, and if you sign up before Oct. 15th, you get one heck of a bargain. I will be scheduling some wine and cheese Get-Togethers to continue the fun back at the Lodge. If any new-to-the-sport members want some extra help or need some questions answered, I will be happy to help you. Another cool thing this season is that the board has elected to allow you not only to sign up children & grandchildren, but family members or friends that are over 21 (They will have to pay a $10 One Event charge to the Club). Hopefully we can rope in some new members down the road or down the slopes when they see all the cool things we do all year. See you at the meeting; have your questions ready. Interlaken is located in the world-renown, scenic Bernese Oberland, and staying here will give you the opportunity to choose from the Jungfrau Top of Europe Ski Region (MürrenSchilthorn, Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen, and Grindelwald-First) or the easier ski regions of Beatenberg or Axalp-Brienz. This is a ONCE-INA-LIFETIME chance to soak up over a millennia of history while also getting to fly down a different Alp each day. The trip currently has an estimated cost of $1,925/person and includes round-trip airfare from Columbus, airport transfers, Welcome Drink upon arrival, 7 nights lodging, and a daily breakfast & dinner. For all of you who have signed up, we need your money as soon as possible. This trip must be paid by for by January. For any new members, this ll be a great trip to start your membership. Holidaze has put together some Tours for those who want to do something other than ski. More info about the prices and particulars will be available at the October meeting. Bern/Emmental This starts with a scenic drive along Lake Thun and into the Emmental Valley for a visit to a cheese factory. It continues to Switzerland s capital, where you can visit the medieval city with it s clock tower, bear pits, pubs, and cathedral before heading back. Lake Geneva/Montreux Drive thru western Switzerland to the resort of Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva. Then onto Chateau Chillon (entrance of SFr.10) perched on a promontory over the lake. You ll return thru the village of Gruyere, with it s stunning ramparts, gothic homes, medieval castle, and amazing cheese. Luzern A scenic ride along Lake Brienz to the town of Brienz takes you to the Jobin woodcarving factory. Then over the Brunig mountain pass to Luzern to see the Chapel Bridge, the Lion Monument, & the Jesuit Church (plus shopping & lunch!).
