If not, you better get ready. The beans planted behind my house have turned from green to a vibrant yellow in what seems like a week. I ve had to change my automatic lights twice to come on at dusk which keeps coming earlier and earlier. The family enjoyed our first fire and s mores a couple of weeks ago on a cool Saturday night. Winter is coming. I was glad to see all that came to September s membership meeting, and the new members we came. I want to put out a special thanks to the board members making this come about without any problems. I hope everyone got enough to eat; I know there was some food left over, so if not, it was your bad. There were presentations about upcoming events like the Social Hours, the Wine Tour, and the Learn to Ski Program at Snow Trails this year. If anyone has an idea for a activity, get with a board member and we can help in getting it up and going. I do not think anyone has approached the board about a western ski trip this year but if you are interested in going on one or leading one let us know. It is getting late but I am sure we can still get one together for the upcoming season. I also know there are openings on other OVSC clubs trips you might be able to get in on. We are still looking for an Activities Board Member if anyone is interested. Remember the club is only as strong as its members. As in years past, Snow Trails is offering deep discounts on season passes for the season. A few things to keep in mind: 1. Being a member of the NSC is a way to take advantage of group rates for you and your family, and have year round fun with all the members. 2. You can customize your pass to meet your needs, purchase a lift ticket only, or add rentals, plus lessons if you would like to get rid of some of those old inefficient bad habits. 3. The sooner you buy your season pass, the more money you ll save ( buy before October 15 th to take advantage of the best rates) 4. THE PROCESS FOR PURCHASING A SEASONAL CLUB PASS ONLINE HAS CHANGED. PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS BY READING THE INSTRUCTION SHEET ACCOMPA- NYING THIS NEWSLETTER. 6. Prices go up on October 15th and then again on November 15th, so you want to get on this as soon as possible. 6. When completing the enrollment form online, our club is W-12 Newark Ski Club 7. You can pay the reasonable fee by cash, check, or credit card when you turn in your paperwork. Once you have turned in your forms and made your payment, you will receive your membership card, which will be usable at many places throughout the year. You can print up the forms, fill them out, and turn them in when you get to the meeting to help save time; forms will be available at the next meeting. To avoid the October 15th penalty, please fill out a coupon, the renewal form, and a check for your fees, and mail it to the club mailbox listed on the first page, near the top, of this newsletter Your NSC membership card is your ID to obtain ski discounts at participating businesses and to partake in discounted ski and social events. The New Membership Form as well as the Payment Coupon (which is on the bottom of page 5) will need to be filled by any new members joining the club. You may also print up, fill out, and bring this form to September Membership Renewal Meeting, or you may fill out these forms, which will be made available, at that meeting. We ask for your diligence and accuracy in completion of the correct forms to obtain the current NSC membership card. Please facilitate a smooth transition for any new member you are sponsoring by printing the NEW MEM- BERSHIP FORM and the Payment Coupon of the current year. This will ensure that all our paperwork is up-to-date and the correct information & payment has been provided. Kay Morrison

And you got birthed! So, Happy Birthday to all of you!!! Sh-Sh-Shilent Auction 17 Update It s that time of year again, time to start thinking about Christmas! What are YOU going to donate for our 6th Annual Sh-Sh-Shilent Auction this year? This has become an amazing fundraiser from our club for TAASC, a great place to grab something cool & interesting for yourself, and/or just an easy way to Christmas shop while eating, drinking, dancing, & having fun with friends! And it s early enough that if you get beat out for the perfect gift, you can still find something else to give them. Please let Tom Brubaker know what you have already collected or plan to donate, and maybe, if you have some time, stop by a few businesses to see if they would like to donate. Donations can be delivered at the Christmas Party, if we know what to expect. We can always use as much help in this fundraising as possible. Now is a great time to start getting into that Christmas Spirit of Giving (& maybe plotting how to get a great deal?!?)! Let s get ready to bid! Call for a Winter Trip Leader We currently do not have any winter ski trips planned for our Ski Club. If someone would like to step up and plan a Western or Eastern ski trip, there is still time to put something spectacular together. A Western trip should run about a week, but an Eastern trip can be anywhere from one to four days. A weekend jaunt to New York or Pennsylvania would work, or even a few days during the week when prices are lower and the slopes have few people. Please let a Board member know if you are interested, and we will help you plan your event. Being without an Activities Chair has left us somewhat bereft, and we need YOU to help us fill a need. Can you volunteer a bit of time and effort? Thanks

4 Page 4 THE INSIDE EDGE THE INSIDE Page EDGE Page 4 4 OVSC SPAIN TRIP to GRANADA & the COSTA DEL SOL March 10-23, 2018 This trip is an amazing 4 days in Granada & Sierra Nevada followed by 4 days in Torremolinos, Costa del Sol. Flights will be round trip (of, course!) from Ohio cities to Malaga, Spain. Your stay in Granada will feature a gala party, daily breakfasts, and 3 days of trips into the Sierra Nevadas. Other optional day trips might tour Granada & the Alhambra, the Tropical Coast & Nerja Caves, Alpujarras & Cordoba, or taking in a Flamenco show. In Torremolinas (a suburb of Malaga), you will enjoy daily breakfasts and possibly take day trips to tour Ronda, Gibraltar, Tangiers, or Malaga. Of course, you can always just opt to take a day out to lay on the beach & work on your winter tan. The price will be approximately $2,300 per person for double occupancy (subject to change based on currency exchange). For those interested, there can also be an extension trip to Barcelona. This would add 4 nights in Barcelona. Your flights would be into and out of Barcelona. Transportation will also include travel to the hotel, to the train station, 2nd class round trip tickets to Malaga and back. This trip will add approximately $800 per person, based on double occupancy. As of last week, two spots had opened up for this trip. If you are interested, please contact Dan Hapner of the ton Ski Club and the OVSC Board at rosehapner@aol.com. A deposit of $750 and a copy of your passport is required ASAP. This is an amazing offer at a really great price and time of the year temperature-wise. You will enjoy yourself! THE SOCIAL HOURS FOR 2017 OCTOBER On Friday, October 13 we will meet up around 6pm at the Autumn Rush Vineyard and Winery in Johnstown (5686 Dutch Lane). Please bring a snack to share, as they have no food there. They have a very large deck outside and plenty of room inside, in case of weather. They just opened six weeks ago and have very good wine and beautiful scenery! We decided to add this one even though we have the Amish Country Wine & Cheese Tour for those unable to join us on the 21st. So, please, come explore this great new place in Johnstown with us! NOVEMBER We will finish out the year by stopping by Tequilaville Restaurant, at 1225 W. Church St. in Newark, for some great Mexican and fellowship on Friday, November 11th starting at 5 p.m. Come out for fun and margaritas!!! NSC Joins Bike Buckeye Lake as a Sponsor of The First Tour de Lake on Saturday August 26, registrants plus 30 volunteers 50+ visitors to BL Winery knows about NSC. Great day. Cool sunny weather. Smiling NSC faces. Participants were very pleased with the event organization and seeing our beautiful lake. Many kept saying they were returning to ride next event. Thank you Ed Novak for getting the booth together and talking about our club. Our NSC trifold pamphlet was put into 200 backpacks. Thank you to NSC members for visiting, riding, and working the First Tour de Buckeye Lake: the Kerns, Proctors, Bill Smith, the Bermans, Peggy Wells, Elaine Pimental, Kay Morrison, John Stevens, & Ed Novak.
