Neither rain, nor sleet, nor heavy snow could keep the NSC from having a good time at last month s meeting at Snow Trails. NSC again notes a big thank you to Tim Crowley for his outstanding organization on the Big Raffle this year. As a result, were able to make a nice contribution to TAASC on Saturday. It was truly inspiring to witness some of some great work TAASC does and to be able to help support their efforts. While Ohio may have just experienced warmer weather and a great meltdown, I can tell you firsthand that there is plenty of snow in the West. Western Wyoming from I-80 north toward Jackson has roads cut like narrow white canyons through three foot deep snowfields. The elk and pronghorn stood as silent sentries as we drove past. Those of you coming to Park City in a few weeks should find beautiful scenery and great conditions. I have only been a member of the Newark Ski Club for several years. I did not have the opportunity to know Harlan Foltz as well as many of you. Harlan was quite a respected figure in the history of our club. He was granted life member status for his many years of dedication. The Newark Ski Club expresses our sincerest condolences to his wife Ruth and his family. Thank you for sharing Harlan with us. bruce kern, president Newark Ski Club Meeting Where: Harbor Hills CC 225 Freeman Memorial Dr Hebron, OH When: 6pm Social 7pm Meeting march highlights NEXT MEETING March 1st HARBOR HILLS County Club Hebron, OH Harlan Foltz Obituary Happy hour & Pix Absentee ballot dude ranch weekend Big Thank yous Friday happy hours Inside this Issue TAASC DONATION On February 5th, Tim Crowley did an outstanding job of presenting not only our donation, but Buckeye Winery s donation (10% from our club s combined bills at January s Happy Hour meeting) as well, to TAASC during lunch at the 2011 TAASC Annual Ski-A- Thon. We would also like to thank each and every one of you who helped make the Big Raffle the biggest raffle we have held to date. Because of you, we were able to help fund a great organization that is making skiing available for all those and their families who haven t been able to ski before. Thank you!! Then he taught mathematics at his alma mater, Reeseville High School in Reeseville, OH, before becoming principal at Hopewell High School in 1952; a position he held for 25 years. He completed his career teaching computer sciences at West Muskingham High School. Throughout his life, he coached many successful teams in golf, baseball, and basketball. He was a member of Mt. Sterling United Methodist Church, where he was a former lay minister and also sang. In 1998, he was inducted into the Muskingham County Veterans Hall of Fame for service to his country and community. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Ruth; his brother, Arthur; his son, Gregg, and daughter, Diana; three grandchildren, and five greatgrandchildren. 3 Page MARCH THANK YOUs This month we would like to thank two businesses that are generous to our club. Tina Hoermle is a member of our club and has been instrumental in making many events fun and exciting. At last year s Golf Outing, she hosted a much appreciated break at her place along the golf course. So if you are in need of hair or nail work, why not try Tina? WOW! Where would we be as a club without all the support of Aspen Ski and Board? You really just can t have a ski club without a place to go for advice and equipment. For all that they have graciously done for the Newark Ski Club over the years, including those great Gift Certificates they donated for everyone who attended the Christmas Party, we give a great BIG NSC THANK YOU!!!! And for all your ski equipment needs, try Aspen Ski and Board! From Activities Chairperson, Joe D. Phillips This is my last article for the newsletter as your Activities Chair. I would like to thank y all for giving me the opportunity to serve this amazing club for the last two years. It has been a great honor and privilege to learn the ins and outs of how this Board operates and to work with such giving and fun people. It takes great people to keep this fun and exciting club going, year after year. I love that we found the Newark Ski Club and that y all have made us feel so welcome. Sincerely, cheers, judojoe Membership Birthdays Lee Curry Carolyn Eubanks Dottie Young John Slater Kenny Weber Shelly Steinberg Richard Amore Tina Efaw le Huffman 3rd 8th 9th 12th 15th 18th 21st 22nd 28th You know you re in good company When celebrating requires The wearing of the Green, The Drinking of your dinner, And Chicago dyes it s river to say Happy Birthday & St. Paddy s, too!!
