Otter Creek Winery couldn t accommodate us on our normal Tuesday so we are having our meeting there on Wednesday November 2. Like we usually do at the late season Otter Creek meeting, please bring a dish to share those light snacks.. and drink their wine while watching ice form on the pond. If you don t read the newsletter this time, not only will you miss the emoticon, you will probably miss the meeting. Yes, you know what that means, we re gonna talk about you for sure!! After the October meeting, a number of people said that they liked the ambiance (whoa! big word) at the Maennerchor and that it was pretty well located. Therefore, be it universally known, that this year the Newark Ski Club Christmas Party will be December 6 at the Maennerchor in Newark. This year s dinner will be catered by some veteran Maennerchor caterers and the dance floor will be hopping. Like last year, it will cost you a bit, but what s $10 between friends? If you had a good time at last year s Party, how can you even think of missing this year s Party? So, give Sandy your Hamilton at the November 2nd meeting and get on THE LIST. And do it by Nov. 29th before the price goes up to $15!! The Activities Planning Meeting was held on October 17 at the House of Huffman. Come and hear what the Ski Club has planned for you. We have a really exciting and varied lineup of events for the upcoming year from a walk in the woods to we ll you wouldn t want me to spoil it before the big announcement, right?!? 2 Page NOVEMBER CARIBBEAN CRUISE RECAP As I sit and look out my window at the cold drizzle this chilly October morning, my mind drifts back to the perfect weather and beautiful seas of our recent Caribbean cruise. The Newark Ski Club s Caribbean Cruise 2011 had something for everyone. Right from the start we knew it was going to be a great time when we started out with a nonstop flight to Tampa giving us plenty of time to board the ship, look around, get settled in, grab some lunch, and just relax. Before board- ing the ship, Sandy was able to enjoy a wonderful lunch with some family members that live in Tampa whom she had not seen for quite a few years. The following day, while we were steaming to our destination aboard Carnival Legends, we were able to enjoy one of the many swimming pools & water slides and then the 85 weather on deck with a book or a cool drink. During the four days that we stopped at the ports of the Cozumel, Belize, Roatan, & Grand Cayman, our group was able to enjoy a wide variety of activities and excur- sions. Some of these activities included: taking a Jeep tour of the island, finally finding conch soup on Grand Cayman, cave snorkel- ing, regular snorkeling, Echo Park monkeys, and even a relaxing day at the beach watching the waves & the seagulls. Plus there was al- ways the island shopping. And some of the best scuba diving in the world! Every night in the dining room was a treat, with our dancing waiter, Luis. The food was excellent and bountiful. Sometimes the choices on the menu were just too hard to make, so we just said, heck, we re on vacation, bring me the lobster tail and prime rib! The desserts were another experience altogether; can we say 800 calorie chocolate melting cake? And what about the Crème Brule? After stuffing ourselves at dinner, we would waddle down to that night's Las Vegas quality show of co- medians, magicians, or dancers. After a week of island adventures, we spent a nice relaxing Saturday cruising back to Tampa, where our cabs were waiting to take us to the airport. Our cabdrivers had to drag us kick- ing and screaming to the airport, as no one was really ready to return to reality. I was a lit- tle nervous about catching our return flight, with only 2 1/2 hours between docking and our flight takeoff, but everything went off without a hitch. Carnival Cruise Lines performed flaw- lessly with great customer service, a wonderful atmosphere, and punctual arrivals & departures at all ports. Southwest Airlines also did a very good job with their arrivals and departures. Sandy and I are in the process of planning another Caribbean cruising for this time next year. Right now, it looks like Aruba, Curaçao, & Grand Turks will be among the stops for next year. Keep watching your newsletter for the details! Tim Crowley

3 Page NOVEMBER BIG HAPPY HALLOWEEN THANKS The 2nd Annual Dead Men Tell No Tales Halloween Party & Happy Hour was smashing success! The McBride home was haunted within an inch of it s life. The NSC mem- bership made their best potluck item, decked themselves out in their very best party attire, grabbed their favorite bottle, and assembled for a scary good time. We want to Thank Deb & Matt for the great party that we enjoyed on Saturday and Rosie for getting all the great pictures here and throughout this newsletter. THANK YOU ALL!!!!!! The Christmas Party It s that time of year again, so put this party on your calendar. Start your month out right with your friends at the Newark Ski Club by coming out to the Maennerchor on Tuesday, December 6th and getting your groove on! There will be food, dancing, door prizes, cheap drinks, and, if you re lucky (& buy him enough beer!), the moon will come out, Miller-style! The cover charge for this great evening of fun & friends is just $10 pre-sale before Nov. 29th, or $15 plus the correct answer to a riddle at the door. So bring your cash to the Otter Creek meeting and get YOUR name onto THE LIST, or you might not get past the bouncer! Here is another great reason to come to the Otter Creek Meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd - Tom and le Huffman will be unveiling their Learn To Cross Country Ski Program. Anyone with even a slight interest in this fun and ancient form of travel should make a point of showing up. Who knows, YOU might just get hooked! Membership Birthdays Scott Callahan Dave Horning Deb Wieser Carl Reida Kathleen Blaine Judy Horning Dan Hoselton Christian Phillips Kip Bowman Rosie Chattos 4th 6th 6th 15th 19th 21st 26th 26th 28th 29th What a great month To celebrate our birth. The Brit s start it off with fireworks, & we Colonists finish it off With Carbs and Tryptophan!! So Happy Birthda zzzzzzz Time to get your HAPPY HOUR ON!! On November 18th, we are going to explore a great Turkish joint at the Easton Towne Center called Café Istanbul. Stop on you way home from work to start the countdown to that most American of all Holidays<3 my Birthday!!!!!! Oh yeah, & Thanksgiving, too! Prepare your palate for turkey by eating some Turkish delights with friends. Vice Sez, The Maennerchor was a great meeting place. People that never show up at meetings graced us and had a good time. Tom Huffman was the winner of the Emoticon Contest; congrats on reading the newsletter. At Otter Creek Winery, put your name in and win! Don t let another person win the your prize. Amy Crislip, from the Snow Trails Ski Shop, donated a really cool prize so READ & WIN. See you there. Pam Spires

Tim Crowley papatimmyjay@yahoo.com Membership Renewal Meeting Wrap-up In September, we had a great turn out for our Membership Renewal Meeting at the lovely Buckeye Lake Yacht Club (Thank you Bambi for getting us this fun spot!). To all of y all who renewed, our budget thanks you from the bottom of it s check register. We are at 75 paid up mem- bers so far. GREAT JOB MEM- BERSHIP!!! To those of y all who haven t done so yet, shame on you!!! Our fun depends on YOU and your par- ticipation, which begins by renewing your mem- bership. And who can beat all the things you get from us for such a reasonable price?!? Every compa- ny in the world wishes they sold anything with such an AMAZ- ING value as you get from membership in the Newark Ski Club. The meetings alone are worth the price of admis- sion, much less the cruises, camping weekends, Western ski trips, European trips, Halloween parties, Christmas parties, one-day excursions, tailgating, raf- fle prizes, Fishing, Hiking, charitable donations, Cross Country Skiing, par- ties... oops, I mean committee meetings, etc., etc., etc. So, Come on Everybody, Join the Best Club in Town!!!!
