For those of you that made it to the summer picnic, you will know what that means. The summer picnic was a huge success with nearly 50 members and quests attending and enjoying fantastic food, fantastic wine tasting, and fantastic fun. A great big THANK YOU goes out to all you for bringing such wonderful dishes and a special thanks to Chef Weber and his crew for the succulent, mouth watering, finger lick'n chicken. When you see Kenny next, make sure to tell him that his chicken sucs. Job well done to all! There are several outings between now and next meeting, so be sure to read the rest of the newsletter. This is truly an awesome club with a lot going on. Our next meeting is the annual membership meeting and will take place on September 4th at the Maennerchor. As always, the meal will be provided. The club is doing something a little different with the directory this year. It will have photographs of all the members. You will need to be there in order to have your picture taken. You will also be given the opportunity to buy pictures so that you can give them to family and friends for Christmas. All of this is with no sitting fee and no obligation to purchase. You might want to wear something pretty and put a little extra product in your hair that night. We will also be doing something a little different with the 50/50 raffle. There will be a lot JUST REMEMBER THERE WILL NOT BE AN AUGUST MEM- BERSHIP MEETING! Newark Ski Club Meeting Where: Newark Maennerchor 195 Orchard St. Newark, OH When: Tues, Sept 4th 6pm - Social 7 pm - Meeting more prizes. The At Large members of your board have collected a lot of good stuff like wine glasses, gifts from local restaurants, lift tickets, more wine stuff, ski stuff, drink tickets, and cash that will be given away. You will want to bring a little extra cash with you as you have to buy a ticket in order to win. Keep your tips up, Tom Erndt, Prez It s PICTURE TIME Get ready with your biggest smile for the NEW PIC- TURE DIRECTORY coming out this Fall. Jon LeVeck will be at the September Membership Renewal meeting to take the portraits for the NSC directory. Married members will be taken together in one picture. If you have a significant other you will need to decide if you want your picture taken together or singly. The photo will be taken in color & when you see the proofs, you will be able to order extra prints in 5x7, wallets, Christmas Cards, etc. Packages will be available for ordering. Make a team or I will make teams for all those that would like to sign up. Golfing 9 holes with a cart will be just $14, to be paid at the course. Plus there s the Party to follow at The Spires Estate, which is about 10 minutes from the golf course. All the food & drinks you can enjoy for only an additional $5, paid to Pam at the door. OVSC Interlaken European Ski Trip March 9th - 17th, 2013 The OVSC 2013 European Trip will be to Interlaken, Switzerland from March 9th thru the 17th. Interlaken is located in the world-renown, scenic Bernese Oberland, and staying here will give you the opportunity to choose from the Jungfrau Top of Europe Ski Region (Mürren-Schilthorn, Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen, and Grindelwald-First) or the easier ski regions of Beatenberg or Axalp-Brienz. This is a ONCEIN-A-LIFETIME chance to soak up over a millennia of history while also getting to fly down a different Alp each day. The trip currently has an estimated cost of $1,925/person and includes round-trip airfare from Columbus, airport transfers, Welcome Drink upon arrival, 7 nights lodging, and a daily breakfast & dinner. Lift tickets will be extra. The Jungfrau lift tickets range from $60 to $75 depending on the mountain; you can purchase & print them out before you leave by going to You can also rent really nice rental skis for about $60/ day and boots for about $30/day; this price goes down a little bit with an extended rental (about $300 for boots & skis for 5 days) and there are 9 locations to pick them up. The Beatenberg area runs from $22 to $35 and is designed for beginners to skiing &/or skiing the Alps (easy runs will help you acclimate to the geography & altitude), and the Axalp-Brienz lift tickets cost $50. For those of you who have signed up for this trip or are interested, please give Matt a deposit NOW. This will enable us to hold your place in any or all of the trips and get you started on paying for this great opportunity. The 2013 Post Trip will be to Zermatt, Switzerland from March 16th thru the 21st. If you include this as the post trip, you ll leave Interlaken on the 16th. This carries an extra price of $985/person which will include your transfers from Interlaken to Zermatt, 5 nights at a 3 Star Hotel, and a daily Breakfast & dinner. Please check that your passport will be up to date during these times so that you don t accidentally get left behind. The Pre-Trip will be touring Romania and Transylvania for 5 days. This 1 hour jaunt will only cost you $15/ person, payable directly to Kenny Weber, includes the trip itself, drinks, hors d oeuvre, & all the scenery you can enjoy! The Lorena is docked at Zanesville s own Zane s Landing Park, where you can enjoy fishing in the Muskingum River or their lovely 8 mile bike path before we set off. We plan to meet up to ride the bike path all together at 5:30pm, more than enough time to leisurely enjoy the ride (or work up a sweat by lapping your friends!) There is lots to DO & SEE & BUY in the Zanesville area, so feel free to set up your own DAY (or WEEKEND) OF FUN that culminates with a jaunty throwback to a slower time!!! Ask a club member from the area (& there are more than enough of them!) for a suggestion or get a group together & plan a prejaunt event. Yes, it will still take place on the Third Friday of the month, August 17th. Yes, there will be food and drinks available for purchase. Yes, your coolest friends and fellow ski club members will be there for fun. But this time, I am attempting to do it without a reservation (What, you say?!?). I will be going over to Papa Boo s in Thornville on the Buckeye Lake around 5 pm and try to hold a few tables. If anyone would like to help me get us all some seats (& have a beer at the RIGHT time), please feel free to meet me. Shucking Bubba Deluxe will be performing at 8pm, so all I can do is try. Come out and join us for a rip-roarin, rootin -tootin loud blast on the water!! Based on a great member s suggestion, we will enjoy our golfing season with class at the Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport on September 21st. They have a lovely menu and great views of the 18th hole. And if the weather will cooperate, we will dine in style on the patio! Then, we move on to October, and this time, we re going back to the Columbus area. Gahanna has a new tapas restaurant in their Creekside development called Arapazo Tapas & Wine. Come out October 19th to check out this new place & enjoy all the things that the Gahanna Creekside offers great views, wine, fun shopping, wine, a parking garage, wine, a creek area with lights & walking paths, by the way, did I mention the wine? Why wasn t this here when I was in school?!?!?!?!?!?
