2 From the Principal I hope you all appreciated catching up with your child s teacher about your child s progress. The children in Years 3-6 were invited to the interview which I know many of you thought was a great idea. It is good to have the children look at their work, both to celebrate their successes and plan opportunities for improvement. To be able to do this with both teacher and parent present is very valuable and ensures everyone is on the same page. If you were not able to meet with the teacher I encourage you to make an appointment early next term. Our newly built Music Room has had the final touches added-blinds have been installed and a balustrade is now attached to the front entry steps. It looks fabulous! To have our own designated Music space is a wonderful addition to our already fantastic facilities. Last week we held our traditional public speaking competition Present Yourself. It was a wonderful night, one I look forward to every year. The children did themselves proud in the delivery of their speeches. To see how far they have come and the confidence with which they all presented was amazing. Each child travelled their own journey. Some are better speakers than others but all of them developed so much confidence and all of them will carry those skills forward in to the rest of their lives. Many ex students and parents say that this was the highlight of their Year 6 for this very reason. It was a competition and there were official winners who received trophies but actually they were all winners!!! In first place was Layla with a speech on Smoking, second was Aylin who talked about Orang-utans and third was Ben who treated us to a magic speech and demonstration. For the last several weeks across the school we have been focusing on the virtue of Courage. This night was a perfect example of the development of that quality. The children showed a commitment to the program and displayed persistence and determination as the weeks progressed. The development of their confidence and strength was clearly seen on the night. Those qualities I have highlighted are ones related to Courage. The children are now able to observe these qualities in themselves and others. Not only has 5/6 been looking at Courage but so has the rest of the school. It is not unusual to hear the children make comments using the associated words. You may have even heard them saying things at home. I encourage you to acknowledge your child s courage (determination, strength, persistence and confidence) as this is excellent character development. We all need these qualities to succeed in life. Next term we will be looking at Creativity. It is the power of imagination and discovering your own special talents. If you dare to see things in new ways you can find different ways to solve problems. We will be encouraging and celebrating children s special gifts and talents. Next term the weekly Mandarin program will not be operating in the 5/6 area, rather the Preps will be starting to learn Mandarin. However to cater for those 5/6 children with special interest and ability we are offering an advanced program in Mandarin. We asked the students for expressions of interest and so there will be 15 children participating in this exciting program in Term 3. Another date for your diary is Friday July 29 th. It is our last Curriculum Day for Students are not required to come to school on that day. The teachers will be participating in professional learning in Literacy and Numeracy. It has been a long term (11 weeks) and the children are very tired. Many have been unwell so the holidays are very timely. Some rest and relaxation will benefit them and hopefully assist them recover from their coughs and colds. I do wish you all a relaxing and enjoyable holidays. Jan Marinakos 2

4 Equipment: - a net, rocket, horse, rope, ladder Go and find a ladder Place your ladder underneath the star in the night sky. Get your rope and get your rocket. Tie up your rocket so it doesn t fly away. Get your horse to stand on and put the rope on top of your star. Get your star and put it in a bottle. Equipment: - rocket, net, fishing line, fuel. Firstly Choose a star that you want. Secondly Get a rocket and push the button to get it started. Thirdly In space open up the rocket door. After Throw a net on the star you choose. Then Use a fishing line to hook onto the net. Later Reel in the fishing line Finally- Grab your star out of the net and ride back home in your rocket and sleep with your star. Step 3 Run straight inside and remember to star you wanted. Step 4 - Gather up all your equipment Step 5 Set up all your equipment. Step 6 Have a rest and get your food. Step 7 When your finished your food put any leftovers in your rocket. Step 8 Jump in your rocket. Step 9 Tell someone, like your parents, to fill up your rocket. Step 10 Fire off you rocket and say goodbye to your parents. Step 11 Did you remember what star you had chosen? Step 12- When you remembered what star grab the star. Step 13 Put the star in the rocket. Step 14 Go back to your house and maybe put it where nobody can find it. T hirdly fill the rocket w ith fuel. T hen open the rocket door. After jump on the rocket seat. Later bounce on trampoline. Next push/ touch the go button. 6 Physical Education EMR Cross Country On Tuesday 14th June CPPS had 2 students compete at the EMR Cross Country, due to their qualifying performances at Division Cross Country. Congratulations to the following students on their great effort throughout the Cross Country season. Briar K- 32nd 9/10 girls. Zac C- 30th 12/13 boys. Grade 3/4 Hooptime - Friday 5th August Permission forms have now been distributed to all interested students in Grades 3 and 4. Please return the permission forms with payment by 29th July. The permission form for Grade 5/6 Hooptime has not been distributed yet. Grade 5/6 Sport Overall CPPS had a terrific Winter Season of 5/6 Sport. Congratulations to our AFL and Open Netball teams for winning the District Championship this term. Both teams were undefeated all season and played like champions! The next round for these 2 teams will be Division playoffs and will be played early next term. Details for these matches are not known yet. As soon as I know the details of the matches I will send a permission notice home. Well done to all our Grade 5/6 sports teams for their efforts in 2016! Tim Norton PE Co-ordinator 6
