The meeting began with a moment of silence for the eleven victims of the recent attack on a Pittsburgh synagogue. Mary Anne Ashworth gave the evening reflection and Pat Roam did a Rotary Moment on the tradition of classifying membership. President Tim played a video of Fred Robey s speech at Rotary International headquarters in Evanston, IL, where Fred was inducted into the prestigious Arch Klump Society. Fred observed the award by giving the club thirty-two happy dollars for the 32 new members inducted. Anticipating the return of snowbirds from up north, the club welcomed back early arrival, Chuck Bares, from Michigan. We also welcomed back Cindy and Marvin Ivy who were away for about five months. A highlight of the meeting was Tim s recognition of Cindy as a Paul Harris Fellow, +5! Cindy regularly coordinates our after-meeting fellowship dinners and has the lead on the annual LovExtension Christmas Party scheduled for December 12th. President Tim noted that the Rotary Club of Sue and Jim Bodenner in Rockville, MI, has collected a great many books and that on December 3rd they will present these books to the Harbourview Elementary School library Tim then showed several slides of club members in costume at the cancer benefit dance (story below) Chuck s happy dollars celebrate his return Tim reported on the decisive victory of South Sumter High at the Health Wise Competition (see story below) and announced that Carole Iberer will go to Harbourview Elementary dressed as Mickey Mouse as part of their reading program. An important part of this meeting was President Tim s power point presentation of the club s revenue sources and intended expenditures for this fiscal year Our next regular meeting will be a hosted by the Iberers at their beautiful home at 2900 Bonifay Path. 2 Rotary Club of the Villages Evening Evening Edition Page 2 Dance for a Cure Residents of The Villages packed the hall at Lake Miona Rec Center on Tuesday, October 30th for the HOLLYWOOD SPOOK- TACULAR Benefit Dance for the Cancer Resource Center. The event began at 6:00PM and ended around 9:00PM. Live music was donated by Three for the Road, Plus 1 which played a wide variety of good dancing music. Halloween Spooktacular costumes were encouraged but not required. An amazing number of attendees showed up with a wide variety of amusing and interesting disguises. President Tim and first lady Noreen as tourists. Fisherman Rich Iberer was lucky enough to reel in a lovely mermaid who turned out to be his wife Carole. Both are Rotary Club Evening officers. The Cancer Resource Center provides comfort bags for women undergoing treatment for cancer. Our club helps with the creation of these bags, This event was initiated by club president Tim Treat and his wife Noreen. President Tim initially hoped to fill one table of eight but ended with almost three times that many. Not to be outdone by other clubs in the Villages, almost every Evening Club Rotarian arrived in costume (see photos to the right and on page3) bringing drinks and an appetizer to share. Additional food was donated by Stokes Seafood Market in Leesburg. This fundraising event was sponsored by the Delaware Club of the Villages, but many other clubs pitched in to enjoy a fun-filled evening of fellowship with a purpose. Dusty and Rita Rhodes came in Ketchup and Mustard costumes that made for a perfect pair of condiments. Relatively new club members Mike and Kay Roth (above) are both active members of, and contributors to, the life and work of the Villages Rotary Club-Evening Recently back from Texas and Michigan, Marvin and Cindy Ivy are once again home, home on the range in the Villages! 1920 s flapper Bea Zelda Newell

4 Rotary Club of the Villages Evening Evening Edition Page 4 Rotary Club of the Villages Evening Evening Edition Page 4 Notes & Announcements Polio Day Celebration Polio Day for Rotary Internationals was October 24th, though only seven members attended the event held at Cody s, Brownwood this past Monday night, quite a few less than last year. We can t forget that we still have a fight on our hands to eradicate polio. Gay and Nancy came up with an idea to raise funds, Paint your Pinkie for Polio. They charges $5.00 and painted 20 people collecting $ Our foundation chair, Yori, sported a sandwich board soliciting donations for Polio+. His efforts and begging netted another $ giving our club a total of $ for the evenings work. Great work!! Submitted by President Tim Opening Celebrated: On Saturday, Nov 3rd there will be a celebration of the opening of the new Veterans Village from 10AM - Noon at 101 Turtle Run, Umatilla, FL. Everyone is invited. Meeting Cancelled: Our regular meeting on Wednesday, November 21st (on the eve of Thanksgiving) has been cancelled. Daybreak Luncheon: We will be serving lunch to Daybreak volunteers starting at Noon on Wednesday, November 7th at Colony Cottage Rec Center Club Golfing: On Monday morning this week nine Rotary Club- Evening golfers played Roosevelt Executive Course. If you want to play next week simply contact Dusty (ritadusty@ comcast.net) by 8:00pm Thursday. All levels of ability welcomed! On the lighter side: Golfer: How do you like my game? Caddy: It s very good, but personally I prefer golf. Health Wise Prize On Friday night several members of our club traveled to Lake Sumter State College to attend the first Sumter County Health Prize competition, and support fellow club member Dr. Sandy.Zelnick. Rotarian Sanford Zelnick at the podium Clubs from South Sumter High School, The Villages Charter High School, and Wildwood Middle High School competed in a Jeopardy style format. The program, developed by Dr. Gupta, consisted of several modules covering various health subjects. The participating students were given the modules to study prior to the contest. The questions were selected from these modules. South Sumter jumped out to an early lead and were well ahead at the intermission. They continued their dominance in the second phase and ended up with 10,000 points winning the competition. Second place went to The Charter School. Club members wearing Rotary shirts showed support for this Important community endeavor.

Deadline: December 15th Angel Snugs trains volunteers to create snugs for children fighting cancer. Snugs provide warmth and comfort for these children. Our club helped with packing and shipping snugs to children in over 70 hospitals the U.S. and Canada.
