Message from the President July 2017 President Ron Gliot Summer has dropped upon us hard and fast as at the time of this writing it is in the 90s and a perfect time to pop the top and get some sun and fun!!!! If you haven t been getting out and having fun with your Corvette you are not trying very hard so many events to choose from this year and so little time. I have been getting out to quite a few shows and events, making sure to get flyers distributed about the Sunburst Strut Your Stuff Car Show. Being this show is now an open show, make sure you drop a flyer in any car at any show. When you are chatting with Vette owners, don t forget to also mention the SCC Autocross Event as well. These are our two big money makers of the year and provide our club the freedom to do everything we enjoy and help our community as well. I think in our 40th year we have a real chance to hit a record number of members. Our record is (164) and we are at (157), so keep some Sunburst business cards in your purse/wallet and make sure to put that friendly Sunburst face on when chatting with other Vette owners. Sunburst can pride itself upon diversity in our Corvette approach, friendliness and a big thing in my eyes, a very mixed club, both male and female. While many car clubs are more a guys thing, one of the things I find special about our club is that we all share in events!!! Keep checking the calendar daily for more events; they are springing up fast now, and if you see something that looks good that you would like to plan, give a shout! We will always help. Remember, this is your club, step up, and be part of the fun Keep the shiny side up and the dirty side down!!!!! Ron Gliot 4

Notes from the Veep July 2017 Vice President Forrest Roberts Summer arrives! Cruise Nights, Car Shows, Flash Drives and Road Trips. Keep an eye on the Sunburst calendars for both Sunburst and Non Sunburst events. There is something going on every weekend and many week nights. Enjoy your Corvette however best suits your interest. While this issue is posted, many of us will be on the Rolling to Bowling trip. Many months in planning, this is a celebration of Sunburst Corvette Clubs 40th Anniversary. Commemorative bricks will be unveiled at the National Corvette Museum, we ll tour the museum, drive the Motorsports Park track, tour bourbon distilleries and try our luck with the horses at Churchill Downs. And yes, dine. Kris Jensen and Rich Orr have worked diligently to arrange this trip. Advance planning for a trip to Pennsylvania next May has begun. Several optional stops along the route to Falling Water are under consideration. If you are thinking about this trip, please complete the Registration which accompanies the Flyer in this issue. Driver input will help select those optional sites and permit hotel investigation. Though next May is a long-time away, to schedule and guarantee our tour date/time at Falling Water, it is necessary to commit our group in December. We would appreciate Registration forms from those considering the tour by Labor Day. 5

Thoughts from the Governor July 2017 Governor Lee Douglas Hello Everyone I am going to keep it short. Everything is going well with our 3 sanctioned events. Our first Harley Cookout was a huge success as you will read below. We will be in Bowling Green when this is posted so I am on vacation. Lee Douglas Governor 6

Charity News 34

Charity News On June 8, members of sunburst met at the McHenry Harley Davidson dealership to help with serving hamburgers, hot dogs and brats to 100 s (literally 100 s) of Harley enthusiasts. The food, chips, water and soda were provided by McHenry Harley and Sunburst members provided the labor. Harley riders and passengers were given the opportunity to donate to St. Jude Children s hospital. As is evident by the amount of $1315 just donated to St. Jude s in the name of Sunburst Corvette Club, the bikers were enthusiastic in their support of the hospital and children. Sunburst members donating their time were Karen Baird (along with her son Nick, and his roommate Bawa), Julie and Dave Thomas, Jo and Bill Hoak, Rich Orr and Kris Jensen, Mike Stevens, Tom Marks, Mark Pippel, Ron Gliot, Lee and Mehlinae Douglas (with daughter Nikki and her friend Chris). A good time was had by all,not only was it a great fund raising effort, but a Fooder, as well! 35

Corvette History and Interesting Facts C7 The Newest Generation ( Present) marks the introduction of the seventh generation Corvette the C7.. The new LT1 6.2L V-8 base Corvette engine delivers 455 HP, 460 lb-ft torque (+5 in each with the addition of the optional Performance Exhaust System) The 2014 Corvette is the first to be equipped with Direct Injection technology which ensures a more complete burn of the fuel in the airfuel mixture, improving combustion efficiency and thus contributing to increased power and fuel economy. Active Fuel Management, or cylinder deactivation, is a first-ever application on corvette and helps save fuel by imperceptibly shutting down half of the engine s cylinders in light-load driving The big news for 2015 was the introduction of the C7 Z06 featuring a rand new 650 HP supercharged LT4 engine. For the first time, the Z06 could now be ordered as a couple with removable roof panel or a convertible with a choice of a 7-speed manual transmission or new 8speed automatic. For 2015, the previously optional Performance data Recorder (PDR) was included at no extra charge with the Navigation system. Every 2016 Corvette Stingray comes with a flat-bottom steering wheel and Magnetic Ride Control is available as a free-flow option on any Corvette. The big news for the 2017 model year is the return of the Corvette Grand Sport, combining the styling and handling of the Z06 with the base 460 HP LT1 engine offered a Grand Sport collector Edition featuring an exclusive Watkins glen Gray Metallic exterior and Tension Blue hashmark graphics, satin black full-length stripes, black wheels and a unique Tension Blue full leather and suede-wrapped interior. Trivia information was found on the Roger's Corvette Center Website: 36

New Babies On May 2, at a dealership in Chicago, Jim and Joanie Downing were just looking at colors. Joanie saw the Long Beach Red, and said buy it. The rest is history Jim Downing Two Minute Tech Tips Jim Downing If you have the 2LT or 3LT, 2LZ or 3LZ, etc option package on a C7: When we remove the targa top on our C7, the hole in the windshield frame where the left-front targa locator pin sets, has a very small micro switch inside. I ve been told that this switch is designed to deactivate the interior motion alarm when the top is removed, so a leaf blowing into your car while parked and locked, won t set off the alarm. Convertibles may be similar but I don t have one to check. Be careful putting anything (like a flag for parades) into that hole, so you don t damage the switch. Objects with a rounded end like the targa pin should be okay. The C7 Flag Caddy is supposed to be designed to not hit the switch, a home-made version might not be safe. When I learn more, I ll tell everyone. 37
