4 Message from the President May 2018 President Ron Gliot I really thought by this point in 2018 that my most memorable trip in my Corvette wouldn t be to the EPA testing station! But with that, let s look at the upside of this year s weather..we should all have plenty of time to get our Corvettes in order before the season start! I expect to see many over polished and highly detailed cars this season. Every Board meeting we keep stacking up more and more events, and this season has the potential for greatness, with so many choices of places to drive our favored car. Coming up is the Woodstock Memorial Day Parade on 5/28, followed by the Sunburst Poker Run on the following weekend. For all you newbies events like the Poker Run are a great introduction to having fun with your car, followed up by our second favorite pass time, eating! If you have a great idea for an outing, don t be shy. Step up and propose it. Most members can help get you started. Don t forget that an event doesn t have to be pre-planned with lots of fanfare. We also enjoy Flash Drives many times during the season. A Flash Drive is something impromptu, where a whim hits you to take a drive and you simply send out an or text to members to join in. Sometimes it is as simple as someone wanting ice cream and looking for an excuse to drive. Any member can do this, at any time. We have had Flash Drives with 2-20 cars, and that is the point of it.driving with friends. If one day or evening you feel like hitting a local car show or cruise night, send out an . You will find many times that a small group will join you. Many are just looking for an excuse to get out and enjoy their car and hang out! Keep the faith, by the time this is published we should be driving a bit more regularly! Remember, if you don t do it this year, you ll just be one year older when you do! Save the Wave!!!! Ron Gliot 4

5 Message from the Governor May 2018 Governor Mike Stevens Greetings Sunburst Members, For the past five years the Sunburst Corvette Club has been one of the top point scoring clubs in the Midwest Region. In fact, in 2016, the Club was the 10th highest point scoring team in the nation. Where did those points come from and how did we get them? Participating in Competition and Working events! One of the major components of the National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC) is competition. There are three types of competitive events that are sanctioned and regulated by NCCC. They are: Rallies, Speed Events, and Concours Car Shows. In the coming months, I intend to write in more detail about each of those categories. Within the Midwest Region, each club is allocated 10 sanctioned events and they can be used for autocrossing, car shows, rallies, drag racing, poker runs, etc. Every November the governor's in the region work out a competition calendar that attempts to avoid overlap and conflict not an easy process. Individuals accrue points by participating, or working, in each of those events. Each club's total points are the sum of their members' points. Simple the more competitors, or workers, a club has in each event, the more points each club accrues. In recent years, Sunburst had multiple individuals placing in the top rankings of Speed Events and Sunburst has had the champions in Rallies and Car Shows. Check the Midwest Region competition schedule of events in this newsletter, and on the Midwest Region website, for your opportunity to add to this rich tradition of Sunburst competition. It's a great opportunity to meet fellow Corvette enthusiasts and have fun. Mike Stevens, Governor 5
