4 Message from the President April 2018 President Ron Gliot Mother Nature is starting to tease us, with periods of warm now and then. She still likes to drop a snow flake now and then, but, keep the faith, driving season is right around the corner! For the first time in a few years, I think I will have my Corvette 100% ready this year by April 1, when the insurance is put back to full driving status! While it was sad to let the old C3 go, it has been much easier prepping one car for the Sunburst season. We are really stacking up a lot of events quickly so, if you have an event you would like to plan, make sure to fill out an Event Request Form (found on the SCC website) and get it to the Board for approval and get it added to the Sunburst Event calendar. Make sure to get to the April Membership Meeting to see the full list of fun coming our way for 2018! Our first official event of the driving season is Rolling for Chicken on April 22 hosted by the Stevens. Eating is this club s favorite pastime and with that we will be indulging in delicious Crandall s chicken (or one of the many other menu items). Even if the weather doesn t cooperate that day, you are welcome to bring the tin car. Crandalls is a sponsor of Sunburst and we like to patronize our sponsors when we can. If you haven t gotten into the garage to begin the yearly makeover, you better get on it, or you may be missing some fun. Get to work, the time has arrived. Remember, if you don t do it this year, you ll just be one year older when you do! Save the Wave!!!! Ron Gliot 4

5 Message from the Governor April 2018 Governor Mike Stevens Welcome to Spring, Many of us have felt the excitement of a youngster when they get their first ride in our Corvette. The grin on their face is almost magical. The Future Corvette Owners of America ( FCOA) was started to help maintain that excitement and encourage our children and grandchildren to continue our Corvette hobby when they become adults. Established in 1991, at the NCCC convention in Charlotte, NC,, FOCA now boasts at total of 2092 members. The Midwest Region alone has 402 members. What does it mean to become a member of FCOA? Members receive a membership packet tailored for their age. Included in that packet is a personalized welcome letter, FCOA patch, membership card, notepad, trading cards and other assorted goodies that promoted Corvettes. If enough items are available, members will receive a packet annually until they turn 16. So how does a Sunburst member enroll their grandson, niece or nephew in FCOA? In every issue of Blue Bars there are usually 2 pages dedicated to FCOA and there is an application form. The $10, one-time membership fee is a bargain. Also, there is an order form for official FCOA apparel, ranging from onesies to t-shirts. There is also a membership form on the NCCC website <corvettesnccc.org>. Just look for the FCOA dolphin logo. I know that my two grandson's (Henry and Owen) both look forward to receiving their annual membership packets and as soon as they get a little older Anna and Ben will become FCOA members. I hope I gave you something to consider when you searching for a unique gift for one of your younger relatives. Mike Stevens, Governor 5

6 Message from the Ambassador April 2018 Ambassador Rich Orr Looking for Corvete Hot Wheels / Match Box Car donatons.. Please The Natonal Corvete Museum has educaton programs where students of all ages atended programs from car maintenance, driving skills, career awareness, museum school tours and scavenger hunts. For the younger students part of the fun is receiving a toy Corvete afer completng a program. The future of Corvete starts with the kids. What a beter way to spark the excitement than to send a kid home with a toy Corvetee The NCM is looking for donatons of Hot Wheels / Matchbox cars to help support this program. This is the last month I will be collectng Hot Wheels / Matchbox car donatons at the membership meetngs. At the end of April I will be delivering what has been donated to the NCM. Thanks for your support. The NCM Offers Collector Car Insurance As spring is just around the corner and our vetes will be coming out of hibernaton, it s a good tme to take a look at your car insurance policy. If you are shopping around take a look at what the NCM Insurance has to ofer. As I and others SCC members have found, they ofer compettve rates, saving hundreds of dollars, with beter coverage when compared to other insurance company. I have both my vetes insured with them for the past years and am very satsfed. You can get a no hassle quote online through this link htp://ncminsurance.com/. Collector car insurance doesn t necessarily mean classic car insurance or antque car insurance. In fact, the NCM Insurance Agency insures new cars, as well as, our loved classics. Do you own a new Corvete that is driven to car shows, club events, parades, or just for a nice trip to the coaste The NCM Insurance Agency can insure it! They are underwriten by American Modern Insurance Company. Here are several reasons you ll like what they have to ofer. 6

Diann Klehr and family Mayonnaise Jar & Two Cups of Coffee When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee. A professor stood before a philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. Then he asked students again if the jar is full. They agreed it was. The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded a unanimous yes. The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. Now said the professor as the laughter subsided, l want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - God, your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions- and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else- the small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first, he continued, there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical check ups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first-the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is the sand. One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. I m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend. 25 Two Minute Tech Tips April 2018 Jim Downing A few tips from Guest Contributor Forrest Roberts Happy Spring Sunbursters Here s hoping you have unwrapped your car. Don t fail to take a few preventative measures to enjoy driving all season. Change your oil. Personally I store with a fresh change and replace again first thing in the spring to remove any condensation from the winter. Check your tires for: *Proper inflation correct pressure will be noted on the door jamb, tire sidewall and owner s manual for your car. As ambient temperatures rise and fall it will be necessary to continually check the tire pressures. *Remaining tread depth Illinois minimum is 2/32 however tread less than 4/32 should be replaced to assure adequate braking, especially on wet surfaces. *Tire age - no reputable facility will repair a tire more than 5 years old. *Check the wear pattern and have the alignment checked. Tires for Corvettes are expensive and accurate alignment assures good handling and full tire life. Have the battery checked. Batteries often fail in very hot weather, and; if yours is under the hood with the engine, it s life will be shorter than one located at the back. If you haven t had your mechanic recently service your car, check your Owners Manual for recommended fluid change intervals plus examine your belts and hoses. Make sure your outings will be without an unnecessary breakdown. Happy Travels Forrest 25
