1 Term 4, Issue 34, 1st November 2012 Internet: FROM THE PRINCIPAL SCHOOL CONCERT Tonight s the big night. All tickets for tonight s concert were sent home on Monday. We have spent the last 2 days at the Besen Centre undertaking our final rehearsals and everything is ready to go. The night starts at 6:30pm with all students needed to be at the centre, dressed in their costumes before 6:15pm. A few reminders for tonight are: The parking fee has been included in your ticket price. This will enable the boom gates to stay open and hopefully cut down on any traffic jams. It will be busy on the night so please allow plenty of time to arrive so that staff can prepare and settle the students before their performance. To ease traffic congestion on the way it is often easier to enter from Burwood Highway, turning left into Station Street. Student s costumes were sent home yesterday. Please look over this costume and ensure that your child arrives at the Besen Centre dressed in their costumes. The costumes should be returned in their bags to school on Friday. They do not need to be cleaned. The students need to arrive at the Besen Centre between 6pm and 6:15pm. Please deliver your child to the teacher at the designated areas in the front foyer. Staff will look after each child while parents make their way to their seats: Sarah Morris (Prep Children) Glenda Kelly and Amanda Lenon (Grade 1 and 2 children) Sue Minshull and Miranda Price (Grade 3 and 4 children) Zac Barry, Nikki Cordia (Grade 5 and 6 children) Please allow enough time to travel to the Besen Centre and be aware that it will be extremely busy around the Centre at this particular time. The students have been working hard in preparation for their performances. The whole school will be performing a song as a finale. It is expected that all students are at the Besen Centre for the whole performance. There is a short 10 minute intermission that will allow a time for a stretch but please be prepared to return to your seat promptly when the bells are sounded and the music is played. No still or video cameras are permitted in the Besen Centre. We have entered into a contract with the Centre and the production company which does not allow for any photography, videoing or recording to take place of the performance. Please pass this information on to your guests as well All mobile phones should be turned off. It is important that younger children are supervised and remain quiet during the concert. You do not have to pay for a ticket if a child is sitting on a parent s knee. At the end of the performance I will inform parents of the procedures for collection of children. It is essential that each class teacher is aware that you have collected your child from the designated area as announced by me. Please do not collect your child until I have called your child s year level. There has certainly been a great amount of hard work and practice from everybody to ensure that this is a great night. I hope that you enjoy the performances. CURRICULUM DAY Our last student free curriculum day for the year is scheduled for next Monday 5 th November. This day will be used by teachers to commence work on consolidating all student assessments and beginning the student reporting process. This day is the day before the Melbourne Cup day holiday. Please note that there has not been enough interest for Rhett to run a full day program through the OSHC. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2...
2 FROM THE PRINCIPAL PAGE 2 BASKETBALL The last few weeks have certainly seen our students playing plenty of basketball games as teams make their way to finals. Last Thursday we had two Year 6 boy s teams playing in the Hooptime Regional Finals at the Nunawading Stadium. One team lost their first game but won every other in their round robin competition. Unfortunately that one loss meant that they didn t qualify to progress to the final. The other team won all their games, except for 1 draw. They progressed to the final which they won convincingly which means that they will now progress onto the State Finals later this month. On Tuesday we had another team made up of Year 6 boys who were playing in the primary school s basketball competition. They had won their district finals and played on in the Division Finals against the winners from 4 other districts. This team won the final and will now progress to the Regional Final representing our school and the Boroondara Division. YEAR 2 WORKING BEE The next working bee is scheduled for Year 2 families on Saturday 10th November. Please make sure that this date is placed in your diary so that you can come along to help our school.
