1 Hello LEEP Family! We built a challenge into last month s newsletter! er! You may or may not have noticed, but we didn t have my name listed! Thank you to those who noticed and asked us. I m Lisa Hoffman Wojcik and my family and I have called Mankato home for just over 20 years now. My husband Scott and I have 4 boys and 2 dogs. We have been connected with LEEP for a number of years through our oldest son s participation in LEEP activities. I have enjoyed meeting some of you during my fi rst month at LEEP and look forward to meeting more of you in the coming months. I m learning many things about LEEP that have been helpful and I look forward to continuing to learn more so that LEEP can continue to thrive and grow. This newsletter contains our upcoming Special Olympics sports opportunities as well as many other fun activities and events that we have planned. LEEP staff are taking a close look at everything that we offer to LEEP members. We are also exploring what new and exciting events and activities we can add! We are working hard to make sure that we are charging affordable fees while covering LEEPs costs for staffi ng, transportation, activity materials, meals (when applicable), and area and state competitions (when applicable). Please remember that depending on the activity, there may be scholarships available as well. June 2018 Get Your Tickets! LEEP Legends Celebrity Softball Game Thursday, July 19, 2018 Tickets are now avaiable at the LEEP offi ce for the 4th annual LEEP Legends Celebrity Softball Fundraiser. Join us on Thursday, July 19 at 5:30pm at Franklin Rogers Park in Mankato! New this year - LEEP Members may buy a ticket for themselves and one (1) guest at $10 each! We want you to come out and enjoy the game! Thank you to Presenting Sponsors Kia of Mankato and Kohls Wheelborg Chevrolet in historic New Ulm! 2 SPECIAL OLYMPICS INFORMATION In order to participate in Special Olympic sports, athletes must complete an Athlete Application for Participation. All sections must be completed, signed, require a doctor s signature, physical and background check. Forms will not be accepted if not completed fully. Once completed, the application must be turned into the LEEP Offi ce and LEEP will submit the form to the Special Olympics Minnesota s (SOMN) offi ce. This application does not guarantee acceptance into the Special Olympics program until offi cial word is received from SOMN. Forms must be updated every three years to continue participation. Athletes are not allowed to participate in Special Olympics practices or tournaments without a current completed form. If you are in question as to whether you have this form completed, please call LEEP at and we can verify this for you. This form must be updated every three years. If it is not up to date, the athlete will not be able to practice or compete until cleared by Special Olympics Minnesota. All athletes must be a paid LEEP Member before participating in any LEEP activities. After the athletes have registered for their sports, LEEP will mail out specifi c information regarding practice times, tournament dates, what to wear, etc. Special Olympics is open to participants over the age of 8. LEEP will attempt to place younger athletes together. Changes in the Fall Games! You may notice that some prices have changed compared to previous years. LEEP staff are working hard to make sure that we are charging affordable fees while covering LEEP s costs. To help lower prices we are trying a pricing system that removes the option of hotel and transportation for state. This will help the athletes that do not ride or stay with LEEP at the state tournaments.
