3 A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT January 2019 Ok... maybe not the best Tee Shirt for the beginning of my second term.. but it is what it is... this pic was actually taken while 4-wheeling in the desert of the United Arab Emirates, and I was, in fact, in disguise, apparently their intel on me speaks a lot about Corvettes, so pretty convincing disguise and I think it kept them off my tail! Anyway, what a fantastic Christmas Party we had again this year, Mark and Melissa did a great job on the location, and the Prime Rib carving station was shear inspired genius. To all who performed either front and center or behind the scenes thanks for the effort... We then had Brother Mike s date night Movie, 22 of us watched American Graffiti and wondered at the simplicity and innocence of a time long ago and a galaxy far far away (that last sentence is metaphoric) but does nod to the director of American Graffiti George Lucas. So thanks to Mike for pulling this together. The 2019 Board and officers, have been elected, but don't be surprised if you get an form me, requesting your help to fill the vacant chairs... as I will use the time between now and the 4th Jan meeting to try to fill the vacant chairs. January has lots of activities, we start with the club meeting on the 4th, then the Chilli Cook off on the 12th. Followed by the Bandit Run on the 26th and for those so inclined (all are welcome) the Board meeting on the 21st.. February is already over booked, so stay tuned to the website for latest updates. I think its fair to say that 2018 was another great year for SJCC, so get involved in and look for more and different Road Trips.. And finally, FREE ICE CREAM at the January 4th Meeting... this time I promise you... first come first served, social hour starts at 7pm. Geoff Presdent SJCC 3

4 ANECDOTES OF VICEPRESIDENTE January 2019 Let me start off by saying I hope everyone enjoyed Christmas with family and friends. Secondly, I would like to Thank You for letting me serve as your Vice President (or as some say President of Vice ) for the 2019 year. I will do my best (and Melanie s best --- cause you know what they say behind every man is a great woman) to fill the shoes of Mark White. That reminds me note to self.if Geoff starts talking about an overseas assignment, call INS and TSA. Congratulations to all the 2018 awards recipients! The year is kicking off with some great activities and I look forward to seeing you all out on the road. As I take a moment to write this, Melanie and I are preparing for our trip to Ron Fellow s Driving School at Spring Mountain. I already know what most of you are thinking it s about time you learn to drive!. If Spring Mountain Resort is half of what several of you say, I know Melanie and I will come back with our faces hurting from smiling the entire time. For this year s party, we have already started looking for a new venue and hope to have specifics soon. Additionally, as you may know, the money collected throughout the year from raffles and auctions is utilized for the Annual Christmas and Awards Banquet. We are always looking for donations for both, so if you have something sitting around the house that you d like to donate, bring it on in - we would love to put it in the raffle!! Of course, new items also welcome too! Carl Carrington If you re not having fun, you re doing it wrong 4

Paul Grout, our former SJCC Membership Director, did a fantastic job for 11 years and he forward to enjoying the more fun aspects of our corvette club. Paul has been a huge help as I transition into this new role. A little bit about me I drive a 2012 Centennial Edition Corvette Coupe. It is Carbon Flash Metallic, not black. I am blessed that it is my daily driver and it s a shame I can t run it faster on my daily commute. I ve been a teacher for 23 years and currently teach in Katy ISD. I am married to Carl Carrington (SJCC Vice President) and we ve lived in Weston Lakes for almost 10 years. We have 2 adorable black schnauzers, Sadie and Zora. We also have a 2019 Z06 Corvette in Admiral Blue. The experience of picking up our car at NCM is unforgettable. I am looking most forward to the Ron Fellow s Driving School in Spring Mountain in just a few days. I am happy to serve as your new Membership Director. 9 News from your Activity Director January 2019 What s going on in our little world? I trust that everyone had a merry Christmas, a happy Hanukah, and a very safe celebration in welcoming in the New Year. It already looks like we are going to have an excellent 2019 chucked full of road trips and activities I think appropriately referred to as San Jac drive and eats. Two of my favorite activities, driving and eating. I don t believe that we have ever been anywhere as a group that the food was even called mediocre Want to thanks those who made the last run of the year, kind of fitting to make it a Chicken Run. The roads were fun, even though some metal cars in front apparently didn t have a single rear view mirror in their car. Egbert Mark had a good time from the ear to ear smile on his face when we made stops. Great weather, great roads, great food, and great friends to share the day with, what more can we ask for or want. Last Date Night showing of American Graffiti was a hit, with every showing we learn a bit more, and the crowd grows. Thanks to all those that came, we had calls for Smokey and the Bandit for the next Date Night, so watch for the upcoming date. Great job at the Christmas Party and Awards Dinner by Mark and Melissa, and it was so good seeing both Ginny Pearce and Marsha Watts, I got a bonus by getting to sit next to Marsha, I know we all love them so much, they with Chip and John have contributed so much over the years. Tom and Sharon are once again hosting Chili Night on January 12 th. And this year as I said before I anticipate the winning chili with my famous Spotted Owl chili recipe if I get caught again by Zoo Security, I will be substituting my Road Kill chili. Mark your calendar for January 26 th as well, Jeb Jonas has confirmed information that Poncho Villa has once again escaped and Jeb will be forming a posse to catch him. Flyers for both are in this month s Grand Sport so come on, let s roll. Mike K Chairman Fun and Games, Shenanigans, Dragons Slayed, Damsels Rescued, Uprisings Quelled mikek307@sbcglobal.net, 9

14 Southern Texas Corvette Caravan to the National Corvette Museum The National Corvette Museum is busy planning the celebrations for its 25th Anniversary from August 28 to 31st in Online registration has been open for a couple of months now, with some key events sold out. However, don t despair that are more events planned with details to be released in the New Year. Hotels that the Southern Texas Caravan has reserved will be released to the public in February. Hint, hint! The Southern Texas Caravan is made up of two groups. The lead group will depart from San Antonio on Monday 26 th August and drive to Fort Worth to spend the evening and do a little bit of lap time at Texas Motor Speedway. I believe they are up to 70 cars. On Tuesday 27 th August, I will lead the Houston section of the Caravan to Little Rock, Arkansas where the San Antonio group will meet us that evening for a BBQ at Bales Chevrolet. Wednesday 28 th August the entire Southern Texas Caravan will do the final drive to the Bowling Green area to be ready for the festivities. For Houston Caravan we currently have 168 people signed up (96 cars). A list of SJCC members who have signed up is provided at the end of this article. If you are interested in joining us please let me know and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. 17 Did You Know? Before you decide to make that next run to the store at 100MPH or so may I suggest you stop now and examine your wheels very very closely? You see late model Corvette wheels are CRACKING. I know because it happened to me. I can t tell you exactly which models are involved except to say our car is a 2018 Grand Sport convertible with the GS wheels When trying to research this a bit further some of the articles mentioned certain Z-06 models as well. There were two cracks in my wheel, almost but not exactly across from each other. Attached below you can see one of the cracks in the first picture and on the second picture if you look closely you can see both cracks. Not that it matters but Chevrolet is aware this is happening but is NOT openingly admitting it. Chevrolet is denying any warranty payment calling these claims a result of road hazard. In general they are being very quiet about the whole issue. PLEASE CHECK YOUR WHEELS FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF THOSE AROUND YOU! Stay safe! John & Patty Walker 17

18 Back in 1977, Meatloaf told us two out of three ain t bad... apparently his squeeze needed him and wanted him but there ain t no way she was ever gonna love him... now, back in 1977, that would almost describe the perfect girl friend for a young chimp! But fast forward to 2019 and two out of three would have your average Millennial running for it s safe space to call its Therapist on its iphone X via face time to discuss its feelings. But as always I digress... two out of three ain t bad, so we can conclude that 4 out of 6 ain t bad either. I am, in fact, referring to the first lady s Corvettes. 1) Race car (87 or 88 or maybe no one really knows anymore) is fully functional starts first time (thank you modern engine management system and fuel injection). Hasn t done much in 2018 bit sit in its trailer waiting to go racing, but it lives in hope... 2) MEG 01.. the 2001 C5 Convertible... running like a champ... her recent dyno tune yielded 347 RWHP, and a week or so ago I floored it from a standing starts and was rewarded with a proper amount of tire smoke and black lines! 3) FAST GS the 2007 C6 ZO6... just finished installing its second new engine; forged bottom end, balanced, blueprinted, line bored, honed, new valve guides, (which were the root cause of the first engine destruction 2 years ago) polished and ported heads, mild cam upgrade, intake upgrades, long tube headers and exhaust system and a dyno tune...still in progress as I write this.. but for all intents and purposes... Fixed and hopefully a useful power boost (looking forward to that) with the components chosen mainly for reliability but also to allow the engine to breathe a little deeper, and rev a little more..shall we say...reliably 4) KRISTEN, the 2014 C7.. daily driver.. and still dealer serviced...so it works... but I have broached the possibility of trading her in for a 2019 Z06... still working on that, my Chimplogic is sound... the C8 will not have the sexy flat plane crank engine until a few years after release... so whats the rush to get the same motor in a different body! When you can get more motor in effectively the same body... like i said, still working on this! So that s the 4 that work 5) 1967 C2 Restomod, literally 10 good days of work, and a little bit of luck, and and the aftermarket parts Gods smiling favorably will see the whole thing done, the suspension at the right height, and the front bumper installed at what will hopefully be a less obvious incline and steering that works... the big job is to remove the dash and modify the wiper drive arm, then install the windshield... but look for it soon. 6)1969 C3. I have made a New Years resolution to start it in 2019, as soon as the 67 is running... So 2 out of 3 ain t bad, at least when we reduce 4 out of 6 down to it lowest common denominator... Now, changing the subject; I was rummaging through some old photos, and if you read my article last month, I was referring to the great Bonfire of and here is a picture of that fire pre-ignition. Think we can all agree... this is a proper bonfire... Finally, all the best for Roy Inner Chimp to the Prez.. 18
