1 Wyoming State Muzzle Loaders Association July August It is finally trying to be summer! Hope every one is enjoying their summer and doing some fun things! The State shoot went very well. There was amazing food, great shooting and of course the windy, rainy weather at dinner time. We are very appreciative to the Connely s for donating their awnings..they work great! Dane Sorter and Andy Lawrence did amazing with the Pork loin and Brisket! Also, a big thanks to those behind the scenes without everyone s help we can not pull off such an amazing State Shoot! A few events that are around the corner are Rocky Mountain Nationals will be held by Gunnison, Colorado! Also the Sierra Madre Shoot at the end of the month! They have some amazing prizes! MONEY.. If you have any information that you would like to get in the newsletter please get you info to Melissa by the 15 th of the month to make sure it is in the newsletter! Also, during the convention we will have our general board meeting at 1:00 on Saturday! We really need your participation during this time. If we do not have a quorum, we cannot get the business done that requires the membership of WSMLA. We will have a drawing at that time and you MUST be present to win. I do know that some think that this is a waste of their time to be there But we need YOU! We are working at keeping the meetings short so that others can get back to their tables and other Have a safe and Happy 4 th of July! Paula Sorter

4 WSMLA The Ed Green Memorial Rifle Frolic for 2014 is over for another year. This note is to extend my heartfelt thank you to those who participated in the Early Camper Cook-off; a fun activity on Friday afternoon for the early campers. Participants can use wood or charcoal fires only. They may grill, smoke, use a Dutch oven, cook in an underground oven, or over an open fire. Participants are limited to 5 people. There are 4 judges who make the rounds and sample and mark their score cards. There is an independent scorekeeper. I should personally like to thank the 4 judges who always get into the spirit of fun competition and willingly wear their sampling bibs and carried multi- colored Easter baskets this year to carry their sampling materials and score cards. Judges were Ed Kern, last year's winner, E.J., a new Bullshooter, Colleen Luke, a super sport, Junior Molina of a very discerning pallet. The judges have a great deal to do with keeping the spirit of the competition in perspective and get to sample some good camp type food. Many thanks to a super group. We had 4 camp cookers this year and there were not only a motley crew but a neat, fun group. Cory Kiser came in dead last in the first cook-off in 2013; but came back this year with an apple pie that impressed and brought him 2nd place in Magic Johnson was laying a fire when I was reminding likely candidates of the cookoff. He ended up being dragged into the completion protesting and squealing but came up with a tasty rendition of a hash which got him some M&M's. Michele Haugen had a miserable time getting her fire going-but after we chased her well- meaning men folk away with the dull axe and wet kindling-learned how to lay a camp fire and get it to go and keep going; she finished some good vittles in time. Competition was close, everybody had a learning experience of some nature, but the most important thing is that it's a great Friday afternoon fun activity. Oh, I almost left out my week-end pain in the a** (good mountain name for him) Joe Crump who whined, cajoled, begged, and wheedled his way to a well-earned win. There is rules, Joe. Have to keep an eye on him all the time. Joe figured out how to keep his food warm for the 15 minute gap between cooking finish and judging starting just fine. The offering was outstanding. Next year Joe will be a judge so I hope we'll see some people back to compete and a couple new faces, too. Note to Rooster and Ginger; your hummus was disqualified but was definitely a contender against the elk. Thanks to all Jane Black Early Camper Cook-off Event Notes from the State Shoot: The State shoot was a great success. We had the usual rain, breeze and warmth. The turnout was good although we missed a few friends; but we made some new ones. The prizes were awesome and thanks to everyone who donated items. The food was wonderful as usual. The guys outdid themselves again. There were so many people involved, I cannot name them all at this time but their help was great and I thank everyone who pitched in. After the event I had a moment to reflect; Good food, good friends, and a good time. We have a wonderful group and I am proud to be part of it. See you next time, Melissa Submit your flyers, photos, stories and more by August 15th to be included into the September Newsletter. to Melissa Connely, mconnely@caspercollege.edu
