1 Glendora Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 353, Glendora, CA April 7, 2016 Issue 21 Upcoming EVENTS Serving the Children of the World and Dedicated to Changing the World, One Child and One Community at a Time. Presidents Message Changing your life through Positive Thinking By La Shawn Butler Division 35 DCM & Mini Golf Tournament April 14, 2016 Developing a positive attitude can truly change your entire life. When you think about something that makes you happy, your brain actually releases endorphins, which give you a generalized feeling of well-being. As a result, you develop a positive attitude. Based on many psychological tests, happy people seem to have a special quality that enables them to live a better life than the average. Can you guess what it is? Well, it is the quality of optimism! The best news about optimism is that it is a learnable quality. By the law of cause and effect, if you do and say what other healthy, happy people do and say, you will soon feel the same way, get the same results, and enjoy the same positive attitude and experiences that they do. Member SPOT By LIGHT Rob Voors, President Elect T he Member of the Month for April is... Robert Davis! Who better for the month of April than our favorite tax man and CPA, Robert Davis! Robert is a long-time Glendora resident (since 1981), has been in business in Glendora since 1984 and started his partnership Davis and Deal, CPAs in Happy People Find Good In The World! Robert Davis Optimists seem to have different ways of dealing with the world that set them apart from the average. First, they are clear about goals and they are confident that they will accomplish them, sooner or later. Second, optimists look for the good in every problem or difficulty. When things go wrong, as they often do, they say, That s good! And then set about finding something positive about the situation. What we know is that, if you are looking for something good or beneficial in a person or situation, you will always find it. And while you are looking, you will be a more positive and cheerful person. Take a moment to come up with one thing that can be done over the next week that will reinforce optimism. What was the result? Earth Day Festival April 16, 2016 Relay 4 Life May 14, :00 am-9:00 pm Inside this issue: Now, if you get tired reading all of this, just remember, Robert is doing all of this! 6 Meeting Time/Location The Kiwanis Club of Glendora meets each Thursday at 7:00 a.m. at the Glendora Country Club, 2400 Country Club Drive, Glendora, CA Fun Facts The first Kiwanis club was organized in Detroit, Michigan, on January 21, In 1962, worldwide expansion was approved, and today Kiwanis clubs are active in every part of the world. Kiwanis was coined from an American Indian phrase Nunc Kee-wanis, which means, we trade or we share our talents. Kiwanis is one of the few organizations that offers membership to almost all age groups. Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club, no matter where in the world it s located. No two Kiwanis clubs look exactly the same. Clubs should reflect their communities and their members and should work to meet their needs. Flexibility is key to a successful club.
