Jean Hunters Brother passed away in February. Marilyn Nesmith is out and about again after being hospitalized for pneumonia in January. Cheryl Stafford was in the hospital early February and is now home recuperating. Debbie LeSieur Heintz is recuperating from a broken arm. Our beloved Ruben Montano passed away. Information regarding services to follow I went out drinking on St. Patrick's Day, so I took a bus home... That may not be a big deal to you, but I've never driven a bus before. LIVING HEALTHY: By: Joe Hernandez, Treasurer One healthy way to enjoy great taste without salt is to use seasonings like herbs, spices and vinegars. Reducing sodium in your diet and still having good flavor would be a big change in most of our diets. You should limit your sodium to less than 1500 mg daily if you : 1. Are African American (of any age); 2. Are 51 or older; 3. Have hypertension (high blood pressure); 4. diabetes, chronic kidney disease or heart failure. For all others less than 2300 mg of sodium each day is recommended. What goes with what? Soup: Bay leaf, chervil, tarragon, marjoram, parsley, savory rosemary. Pork: Coriander, cumin, garlic ginger, hot pepper, sage, savory, thyme, pepper. Beef: Bay leaf, chives, cloves, cumin, garlic, hot pepper, marjoram, rosemary, savory. Lamb: Garlic, marjoram, oregano, rosemary, thyme (before roasting make little slits in lamb and insert herbs). Always enjoy your meal with taste! REPORT OF COMPLETED EVENTS: The Dinner Honoring Jim Smith was a great success! We had many dignitaries in attendance including Bob Sypnieski, Moosehaven Board Member; Andrew Boardley, Vice President of the California / Nevada Jay Jacobsen presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Jim for his many years working with the Blood Bank on behalf of District 4. South Sacramento 255 Board of Officers presented Jim with a beautiful plaque for more than 33 years of dedication to our Lodge including his continuous efforts for our members with the Blood Bank and the Moose Legion. Kudos to Randy and Tamera for putting on our Sweethearts Dinner/Dance! And thank you to Brenda Aldridge for decorating so very nicely too! Good food and good friends resulted in a great time had by all! TACO NIGHT: Taco Night is back at the South Sac Moose Family Center! Please plan to come on down and join us on Thursday nights at 6pm. We'll do the cooking and you get to add your favorite toppings to make YOUR perfect Taco. SUNSHINE CHILD: Our Sunshine Child, Makayla Schalk, is no longer at Mooseheart. The Sunshine department at Mooseheart has several new children arriving soon and will be assigning one or more (possibly twins) of them to the South Sac Family Center.
