On January 13, the team presented a blended learning program to area educators at the Region 4 Digital Learning Conference. On January 27, they team presented to state administrators at the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Mid-Winter Conference. Both presentations were well -received, with several participants requesting additional information and opportunities to collaborate with the Anahuac BLT. Seniors Ana Gonzalez and Addison Hemphill and sophomore Tia Cormier qualified for the State Meet after finishing in the top three spots at the Regional Meet held in November. Ana Gonzalez authored the bill that was introduced from the 3A Region 4 Meet. She along with the other competitors discuss, debate and question a variety of bills from the other state qualifying regions. None of the girls were successful in moving to the final day of competition, but they each learned a great deal about the legislative process and events of the day. Above, left to right, are Addison, Tia and Ana.

2 Page 2 Students will have five fewer days this school year, thanks to a new House Bill and Anahuac ISD board members. The state, through the passage of House Bill 2610, now calculates a school year in Texas by minutes instead of days. Instead of being required to hold 180 instructional days, schools are now required to hold 75,600 instructional minutes per school year. Because Anahuac ISD will end up having more than the required number of minutes by the end of the present school year, the last day for AISD students this year is May 26 instead of June 3. AISD instructional staff members will use May 27 and 31, and June 1, 2 and 3 for curriculum planning for the school year. Anahuac ISD approved the school calendar revision during its January 12 board meeting. Public School Board of Trustees across the state are honored for their service during January school board meetings. AISD Board of trustees were honored by members of each campus. Prior to the Board meeting the members were treated to a 4-course meal consisting of shrimp and grits appetizer, a sweet vinaigrette salad, and roasted pork loin, followed up by a delectable raspberry lemon mousse for dessert. The delicious meal was prepared by high school FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) students as well as AHS s culinary finest and their teacher Kristyn Copeland. Board Revises School Calendar; Students Get Out A Week Early First graders entertained the board with two songs I m a Little Teapot and a personalized Thank You song. Anahuac Middle School cheerleaders and band members gave a mini pep rally before goodie bags made by National Junior Honor Society and Student Council members were handed out. AMS 6th and 7th grade Gifted and Talented students presented a tile made by student Reagan Richard for each board member with a sketch of that board member as well as a poem. Other GT students created lunch certificates for free lunches at the AMS cafeteria. Members of Anahuac High School organizations handed out gift baskets containing various goodies to the board members. In other business, the district received a clean opinion on its annual audit, with no material weaknesses or deficiencies found by the auditor. The board also hired the audit firm of Hereford, Lynch, Sellars and Kirkham to continue its auditing services for school year. The board approved the May 2016 Order of Election. Board of Trustee positions up for re-election are those currently belonging to Kate Hampton and Kenneth McGraw. A workshop was held January 12 after the regular board meeting. The board received information from the architectural firm of Claycomb & Associates who is conducting a facilities assessment. AMS cheerleaders and members of the AMS Band put on a pep rally in honor of the AISD board members. Board members Chris Jircik, Lane Bertrand Kate Hampton, Ken McGraw, Cris Stephenson and Dr. John Redman show off gifts given to them by members of AMS s National Junior Honor Society, Student Council and Gifted and Talented class. Board members Lane Bertrand, Kate Hampton, Ken McGraw, Dr. John Redman, Cris Stephenson and Chris Jircik are flanked by AHS students who created and presented gift baskets to the trustees.
