1 The Pawprint Penny War Fundraiser Porum High School and elementary school held a penny war fundraiser for Kevin Farley. After the Farley house fire the whole town of Porum wanted to help Kevin through this tragic time. Everyone in the community was affected. In the elementary Mrs. Smith and Ms. McCoy s fourth grade class won first place. In the high school the freshmen won first place. 1
2 Spelling Bee The following student are the winners and alternates of the spelling pee. 1st grade- Gabriella Lyons-winner and Peyton Washington- Alternate 2nd grade- Alex Harris- winner and Emerson Parsons- Alternate 3rd grade- Saylyr Corbell- winner and Mckenzie Kellogg- Alternate 4th grade- Ian Chapin-winner and Lilly Tallon- Alternate 5th grade- Taryn Armstrong- winner and Logan Mecom- Alternate 6th grade- Jaci Horton- winner and Jacob McCarter- Alternate 7th grade- Emma Murray- winner and Eric Chapin- Alternate 8th grade- Ivy Rose Goad- winner and Alexandria Bush- Alternate Winners of 1st-3rd grade and winners and alternates of 4th-8th grade competed in school wide spelling bee on February 5th. The winners of the school wide bee were 1st place Alexandria Bush 8th grade, 2nd place Ivy Rose Goad 8th grade, and 3rd place Ian Chapin 4th grade. All participants were given a goodie bag sponsored by the elementary student council. The winners also received medals and t-shirts. 1st and 2nd place winners will compete in Muskogee on April 6th at the Muskogee Civic Center. Congratulations and good luck Alexandria and Ivy Rose! 2
3 Math Competition Alejandro Briggs went to Muskogee and competed in the algebra 1 competition. He went up against 10 other area high schools and placed first. 3
4 Robotics Competition Our robotics team went to their last competition, ICTC Engineering competition, with Mrs Williams and Ms Weston. It took place at, Muscogee Civics Center. 4
5 All the members had to take part in one of the three trials. One of them consisted to make the tallest tower with 45 sheets of paper and adhesive paper. Riley Kennedy and. Were the runners for it. For the lower division, the participants, in our case; were Madison Parson and Tanner Franklin. They had to make a boat out of wood and a mousetrap. They got the second place. Basketball In our last tournament the Lady Panthers got runner up and the Panthers did also, for the 1 st time in 10 years. In districts we both won the 1 st round on that Friday night the 8 th against Keota. Then we played that Saturday night the 9 th for the championship we both fell a little short and got runner up. Both teams still get to go on to regionals. The Lady Panthers play Thursday the 15 th at 1:30 and the Panthers will play shortly after The Lady Panthers will play Okay and the Panthers will play Cavesprings. This will be the 1 st round of regionals. Porum Blood Drive 5
6 Every year, our school puts on blood drives. We do this a few times a year actually. A lot of the students will donate, as well as many others from our town. There are so many different types of blood, for instances there is O negative, AB positive, A negative, B positive, and a few more. Maybe next time we have one, you will donate. As a national officer, Brenna Stinnet went to represent skills USA and help lead members during skills USA week. During the trip she visited 6
