1 GRIGGSVILLE - PERRY ELEMENTARY & HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS B DAY THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25 th, 2016 Our thoughts and prayers are with Kathy Dyer and family in the death of her father Delbert Lozell Henthorn on Tuesday. Visitation is on Friday from 5:00 8:00 p.m. at Airsman-Hires Funeral Chapel in Griggsville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Fishhook United Brethren Church on Saturday. Hannibal-LaGrange University will be here today during first homeroom in Mrs. Lightle's classroom. All juniors and seniors are welcome to attend. Students planning to bring a tractor to school tomorrow need to park in the lot between the ag shop and the gym, on the ag shop side. Sophomores will be having a meeting tomorrow in Mrs. Shoemaker s room during homeroom. This meeting is only for students that have paid their dues. Jostens will be here on Monday, February 29 th to meet with the freshmen about class rings. They will return on Friday March 4 th to pick up ring orders and deposits. Jostens will be here on Friday, March 4 th to hand out graduation items to the seniors. Payment will be due at that time. Ineligible list is due to office no later than 10:45 a.m. tomorrow morning. HS Cheer tryouts will be on Friday, March 11 th starting at 6:00 p.m. Sign-up sheet is in the office. You need to have a current school physical and be eligible in order to try out. Sign up by March 4 th. Joh n Wood Community College is looking for you to teach JDUB Academy (formerly Children s College) this summer during the month of June. If you love children and want to get paid to teach all the exciting hands-on activities you don t have time for during the school year, we want to talk to you. We are looking for instructors in the

2 areas of science, math, technology, engineering, writing as well as art, drama, music and life-skills. You can create a class or we can assist you. Please call or Diane Vose, Manager of Community Based Outreach at dvose@jwcc.edu or Please contact me by Monday, March 7. I look forward to hearing from you! This is FFA Week! Ms. Goin encourages school-wide participation, as only two of the week s activities will be FFA members only. Today: Canned Food Drive before School- Students who bring in an item are entered to win an FFA T-shirt. Pie eating Contest during Lunches- Each grade will pick a boy and a girl to compete. They must be chosen by 12:30 today. The girls will eat 1/4 of an apple pie using only her hands. Once the girl finishes her ¼ of pie, the boy chosen for that grade can begin, not using his hands or any utensils, face only. Fresh/Soph pie eating contest will start at 1:00 and junior/senior pie eating contest will start at 1:30. Blue and Gold Day (Wear Blue and Gold to show your support for the GP FFA) Tomorrow: Bring Your Tractor to School Day (Please contact Ms. Goin to get approval and for additional information) Red v Green Day (Red=Case, Green=JD) Kernel Count Winner Announced- Receives $10 Casey's Gift Card The Scholastic Book Fair is heading our way! It will be at our school February 29 th through March 8 th. There are so many books to choose from for every kind of kid; adventure, sci-fi, bestselling, and even laugh out loud stories. The Book Fair will be open from 1:30 p.m. 4:00 p.m. on school days. We can t wait to see you there! During the Book Fair we will have our Class Coin Challenge starting on Monday, Feb. 29 th and ending on Tuesday, March 8 th. Please bring the following: Monday pennies, Tuesday nickels, Weds dimes, Thurs quarters, Friday dollars. All money collected goes directly to

3 purchasing books for your child s classroom! The class that collects the most will win popcorn and a movie! Everyone s invited to our Book Fair family event on Thursday, March 3 rd from 5:30 7:00 p.m. Mark it on your calendar today and bring your whole family! The Griggsville-Perry FFA Chapter is selling raffle tickets for 2 separate antique tractors to be drawn at the Illinois State FFA Convention. The two tractors, a 1953 International Super M and a 1948 Farmall Cub, are fully restored and ready to roll! Tickets are $5 each, or 5 for $20. All proceeds from the tickets we sell stay with our FFA chapter to be used for transportation, conference registrations, and other chapter activities. To purchase tickets, contact Ag Teacher Amanda Goin by calling , or by at goina@griggsvilleperry.org, or speak with any FFA member or officer to buy your tickets and support your local FFA. Mark your Calendars: Winter Sports Banquet will be on Thursday, March 17 th at 6:00 p.m. in the big gym. More info to come later. American Red Cross Blood Drive sponsored by Anatomy & Physiology and Health Occupations will be here in the big gym from 9:00 am until 2:00 p.m. next Friday, March 4 th. If you would like to donate blood please call the school at Yearbooks from the school year have arrived! Students who purchased and paid for a book will receive their books on Wednesday, February 10 th. Forget to buy a book? Don't worry! Extra copies are available from Mrs. Springer for $40. These are the only available NHS Build an Animals that are left: giraffe, dragon, & unicorn. Contact Kayt Risley if you would like one. Cost is $20. Thanks! Preschool Screening will be on Thursday, March 10 and Friday, March 11. Four Rivers Special Education District and Griggsville- Perry School District are sponsoring developmental screenings for all children between the ages of 2½ and 5 years (old not entering kindergarten in the fall). This screening helps to determine eligibility

4 for the pre-kindergarten program. Parents should call the school at (217) to schedule an appointment. HS students: We have an abundance of overdue books!! EAGLES BASKETBALL NEWS! 5th and 6th grade basketball first game will be a home game, today, Thursday, February 25th vs. Franklin. The 5th grade B game will start at 5:30 followed by the 5 th grade A game and the 6th grade game. It will be a free will donation to get into the game. 7th and 8th graders who have not yet turned in uniform, practice jersey, or playbook need to do so immediately! They can bring it to either the Perry or Griggsville offices. LADY EAGLES VOLLEYBALL NEWS! Game Thursday Practice Friday 3:30-5:30 7th grade Regionals starts Saturday at 10:00 EAGLES TRACK NEWS! Track sign up in the office. Practice will start when I return or when Coach White is ready. Athletes must have insurance and physicals up to date. Would the Person who took the SAVER CARD from the office, please return it (no questions asked) or pay for it! Please see Mrs. Curfman if you would like to purchase a saver card for $5.00 from the Boy Scouts. It has $2.00 off each for a regular large pizza at Casey s, any pizza, any size at Papa Murphy s, a purchase of $20 or more at Fazoli s or a haircut at Great Clips. Plus buy something get something at Qdoba, Little Caesars Pizza, Daylight Donuts or TCBY. This is a good deal!!! CHEERLEADING NEWS!

6 Anyone interested in Cheerleading, try-out sign-up sheets will be on the counter in the office. Anyone signing up needs to do so by Tuesday, March 4 th. Try-outs will be held Thursday, March 11 h in the High School Gymnasium. The following students owe money for extra milk: Gavyn Kirgan, Logan Evans, and Jenna Kelley. The following students have library fines: Brianna Bennett, McKenya McCurdy, Grace Stabile, Ashley Waters, Iely Smith, and Chance Lawber. The Unity Athletic Boosters are having their 17 th Annual HOOPSFEST 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 12 th in Mendon IL. More info is available in the office.
