3 OJLE History The Oregon Junior Livestock Expo was created in 2012, but evolved from the 2002 Oregon Hereford Association Spring Show & Sale held at the Linn County Fairgrounds. Under the management of Phyllis Vollstedt, Linda Sims, and Smitty and Teresa Cox the event grew and a Junior Hereford Show was held in conjunction with the sale. In 2003, Greg Stallings became the sale manager and joined the team in putting on the event, which included the addition of a jackpot steer and heifer show. Phyllis Vollstedt enlisted the support of Buzz Wheeler, the owner of Coastal Farm and Ranch, to boost this event. Coastal Farm became not only a huge sponsor of the event, but they also became the sponsors of the cash premium prizes for the Grand and Reserve Champions. The OHA Spring Show & Sale continued to grow and had become one of the largest jackpot cattle shows in Oregon. After 10 years, the last OHA sale occurred and the sale staff decided to move their event to the fall. In 2012, the Oregon Junior Livestock Expo (OJLE) name was created and teamed up with the show managers of the OSU/LBCC College Classic Jackpot Show. That year, a joint event occurred. The OJLE Jackpot Cattle Show and the OJHA Regional Hereford Show were held on one weekend and the OJLE Jackpot Lamb and Goat show were held on a separate weekend. The year 2013 brought many firsts. The OJLE management combined all species (beef, sheep, and goats) and incorporated hogs into a weekend event held at the Linn County Fairgrounds. In 2014, the hog show continued to expand and a breeding gilt show was added. This year, we continue the same lineup and are very excited to keep this event growing in order to provide youth livestock enthusiasts with one of the best jackpot shows in Oregon! Throughout the years Coastal Farm and Ranch has continually supported the event and made it a success. We sincerely thank them and appreciate their support immensely!
