Welcome TO BATTLE GROUND ACADEMY SUMMER CAMPS Each one valued as and taught as AN INDIVIDUAL We have something for everyone this summer! Camps range from academic to athletics, enrichment and art all age appropriate and directed by a BGA coach/teacher or camp professional. This summer we are offering over 100 camp options for ages 4 to adults from June 3 through July 26. Half-day and full-day combo camps are available with lunch. 9:1 A low student-to-faculty ratio means we know your child s name, interests, learning style and motivators, and we have the flexibility to adjust our curriculum to meet each student where he or she is. Our summer camp programs are open to all in the Middle Tennessee area. For families needing additional care, early-care, after-care and between-care are available for an additional fee. For questions or more information, bgacamps@mybga.org. REGISTER BY FEBRUARY 28 TO RECEIVE A 10% OFF DISCOUNT FOR SELECT BGA SUMMER CAMPS. Cancellation/Withdrawal Policy BGA reserves the right to cancel a camp if the minimum number of participants do not sign up for the camp. A full refund will be given in the event of such cancellation. A $50 registration fee will be charged for a camper withdrawal except in the case of a camp or class cancellation. The fee is nonrefundable. If the withdrawal is received less than two weeks prior to the start of camp, the processing fee is 50% of the cost of the camp. Once the camp has started, we cannot issue any refunds. 5 ATHLETIC CAMPS As you prepare to join us for one of our athletic camps, there are a few items we d like to you to remember: All camps will take place on BGA s Glen Echo Campus unless noted. All equipment will be provided unless noted. Campers should wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes (or other appropriate athletic shoes), and bring a water bottle, a snack and sunscreen daily. ALL-SPORTS CAMP: All-Sports Camp Ages: 5-12 Session I: June 17-20, 1-4 p.m. Location: Middle School Gym Ages: 5-10 Session II: June 24-28, 1-4 p.m. Location: Lower School Gym Cost per session: $175 in advance, $180 at the door Minimum: 10 Participants Campers will spend the week playing various sports such as basketball, kickball, straddle ball, dodgeball, ultimate football, ultimate frisbee, line tag, soccer, jump rope, beach ball chaos, relay races and more! Campers should wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes. Instructor: Kevin Wells, BGA Lower School Wellness Faculty Member Friday All-Sports Camp Ages: 5-13, Minimum ten participants Dates: June 7, 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: $65, Each session Session I Location: Middle School Gym Session II Location: Lower School Gym Enjoy a full day of fun sports activities. Campers will spend the day playing various sports such as basketball, baseball, kickball, soccer, flag football, wall ball, ultimate frisbee, and more! Instructor: Roc Batten, BGA Head Football Coach BASEBALL: Baseball Fundamentals Ages: 5-14 Session I: June 10-13, 9 a.m. to Noon Session II: July 8-11, 9 a.m. to Noon Cost per session: $120 in advance, $140 at the door Location: Fleming-Wilt Baseball Facility Led by Battle Ground Academy coaching staff, this camp is designed to improve baseball skills. With a player to coach ration of 10:1, each camper will receive direct instruction to help them reach their full potential. Instructors: Jonny Hackett, BGA head baseball coach; BGA staff and players BOYS BASKETBALL: Boys Basketball Skills Ages: 5-14 Dates: June 3-6, 1-4 p.m. The goal of this camp is to teach the fundamentals of basketball to kids, as we build an atmosphere of fun while learning. We will learn about ball handling, shooting, footwork, and passing throughout the week. This week will be a fun week of learning basketball and improving skills. Instructors: Jared Street, BGA Boys Head Basketball Coach, BGA Staff and Players Boys Basketball Shooting School Ages: 9-14 Dates: July 9-11, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Cost: $100 in advance, $110 at the door This camp will teach the proper mechanics of shooting the basketball. We will teach the proper technique and fundamentals of shooting the basketball along with drills to enhance shooting skills. We will also teach various ways to get open without the ball and how to prepare as a shooter in order to get open and make shots. Instructors: Jared Street, BGA Boys Head Basketball Coach, BGA Staff and Players Advanced Guard and Post Academy Ages: 8-14 Dates: July 16-18, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Cost: $100 in advance, $110 at the door We will spend significant time breaking down the guard and post positions. Camp will be run similar to a practice as students learn how to play each position better. Guards will work on ball handling, passing, post feeds, playing off ball screens, and playing without the ball. Posts will learn about footwork, post position, finishing moves, and playing as a ball screener. This camp is intended to teach and work the specifics of each position. Instructors: Jared Street, BGA Boys Head Basketball Coach, BGA Staff and Players CHEERLEADING: Little Wildcat Cheer Camp Ages: 5-11 Dates: July 22-25, 1-4 p.m. Cost: $90 Gym/Sensing Wrestling Room Join the varsity Wildcat cheerleaders to learn cheer fundamentals, chants, and dances. Cheerleaders will have tons of fun and be ready to lead their favorite team to victory. All participants who attend will get to perform during halftime at BGA s home football game on September 3. Instructors: Molly Mackleit, BGA Cheerleading Coach, BGA Varsity Cheerleaders DODGEBALL: Dodgeball Camp Ages: 6-14 Dates: July 15-18, 1-4 p.m. Cost: $105 Location: Jewell Athletic & Wellness Center Can you throw? Catch? Move? If you can do all three, then you can play dodge ball. Dodge ball is a challenging game that increases athletes hand-eye coordination, and mental awareness of their surroundings, and offers a great cardio workout. Please note the camp will use aero foam balls. Instructors: Charlie Carlisle, BGA Volleyball Director; Kris Klausner, BGA Middle School Football and Baseball Coach; Rob Mitchell, BGA Varsity Soccer Coach FOOTBALL: Football Non-Padded Camp Ages: 5-14 Dates: June 3-6, 9 a.m. to Noon Location: Middle School Practice Field BGA Head Football Coach Roc Batten and his staff lead a camp focused on technique and fundamentals for kids of any skill level. The BGA football coaching staff has experience coaching and playing on the high school, college and professional level. Please wear tennis shoes or cleats. Instructors: Roc Batten, BGA head football coach; BGA staff and players Advanced Quarterback/Wide Receiver Skills Ages: 9-18 Dates: June 11-12, 4:30-6 p.m. Cost: $100 in advance, $110 at the door Location: Jewell Athletic & Wellness Center/ Guffee-Brown Stadium BGA Head Football Coach Roc Batten and assistant coaches will help aspiring quarterbacks and receivers hone their skills in this specialty camp. Players will be instructed on proper quarterback mechanics that will include throwing motion, release, and footwork. Receivers will receive instruction on proper route running technique and catching. This is a must for young players interested in improving their skills and getting ready for the fall. Instructors: Roc Batten, BGA Head Football Coach, BGA Staff and Players Football Contact Camp Ages: 6-14 Dates: July 9-11, 4:45-6:15 p.m. Cost: $85 in advance, $95 at the door Location: Jewell Athletic and Wellness Center BGA Head Football Coach Roc Batten, and coaches from BGA middle school and high school staff, will lead a full pads camp. The BGA Football Contact participants will work on the fundamentals of blocking, tackling, and core positional skills. Bring a mouth guard and cleats; pads will be provided for students participating in BGA s 5th through 8th grade football program. 6 GIRLS BASKETBALL: Girls Basketball Skills Ages: 5-9 Session I: June 10-13, 9 a.m. to Noon Ages: Session II: June 17-20, 1-4 p.m. This fun camp will focus on basketball fundamentals and translating them into the game. Basketball players of all levels of experience are welcome to participate in this camp. Instructors: Clay Price, BGA Head Basketball Coach, BGA Staff and Players KICKBALL: Kickball Camp Ages: 6-14 Dates: July 15-18, 9 a.m. to Noon Cost: $105 Location: Middle School Gym and Athletic Field This is not your regular, old kickball game. We will start this week by learning the basic skills of kickball and turning that into new, fun, and crazy ways to play. We will learn a variety of different ways to play this classic game, such as Big Base Kickball, Line Kickball, Soccer-Base-Basketball Kickball, One Base Kickball, and more. Instructors: Melissa Martin, BGA Lower School Faculty Member, and Tanner Bennett NINJA CAMPS: Lady Ninja Training Ages: 5-14; Minimum of five participants Dates: July 22-25, 9 a.m. to Noon Location: Middle School Gym Camp designed to provide an opportunity for girls of all ages to gather and explore tumbling, obstacle courses and game creation. Activities include obstacle courses, tumbling, free running, parkour, tug training, Ninja Warrior video training, sumo, rock climbing, and more! Instructor: Kevin Morriello Boys Ninja Training Ages: 5-14; Minimum of five participants Dates: July 8-11, 1-4 p.m. Location: Middle School Gym Camp designed to provide an opportunity for boys of all ages to gather and explore tumbling, obstacle courses, and game creation. Activities include obstacle courses, tumbling, free running, parkour, tug training, Ninja Warrior video training, sumo, rock climbing, and more! Campers will need to bring shin guards, ball (sized appropriately), and cleats/turfs. Instructors: John Millard, BGA Head Boys Soccer Coach; Jan Morrissey, BGA Head Girls Soccer Coach; Steve Lape, BGA Assistant Boys and Girls Soccer Coach Advanced Soccer Ages: Dates: July 15-18, 9 a.m. to Noon Location: Upper School Campus - Stewart Campbell Track and Soccer Complex BGA varsity coaches will offer their expertise during this camp geared to the more advanced soccer player. The co-ed camp will feature technical and tactical aspects of the game for field players and goalkeepers. Campers will need to bring a ball, shin guards, socks for shin guards, and cleats/turfs. Instructors: John Millard, BGA Head Boys Soccer Coach; Jan Morrissey, BGA Head Girls Soccer Coach; Steve Lape, BGA Assistant Boys and Girls Soccer Coach SOFTBALL: Softball Skills Supermite Softball Skills Ages: 4-9 Session I: June 10-13, 1-4 p.m. Little Leaguers Softball Skills Ages: 9-16 Session II: July 8-11, 1-4 p.m. Cost per session: $120, $140 at the door Location: Upper School Campus - Stewart Campbell Track and Soccer Complex Participants will work to improve their knowledge of the game while improving their fundamentals. Sessions will emphasize the basic fundamentals of: hitting, slapping, pitching, catching, infield, and outfield. Campers will leave with a better knowledge of the game and with specific drills that will continue to improve their skill set. Participants should bring a softball glove, bat (if you have one), cleats, indoor athletic shoes, and a hat. Instructors: Kat Martin, BGA Head Softball Coach, and Staff TENNIS: Tennis Fundamentals Ages: 5-15 Dates: July 22-25, 9 a.m. to Noon Location: Hallum Tennis Complex This camp is for beginner through advanced tennis players, and will focus on learning and mastering the basics of the sport. BGA tennis coaches will cover strokes, rules, scoring and etiquette in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a tennis racquet. Instructors: Cindy Bullock, BGA Head Tennis Coach, and Staff VOLLEYBALL: Volleyball Skills Camp Ages: 8-14 Dates: July 8-11; 9 a.m. to Noon Campers will be divided up based on age/ skill level and will focus on specific aspects of volleyball geared to their abilities through drills and games. The camp will focus on individual skill development in passing, serving, and attacking, along with an introduction to offensive and defensive terminology. By the end of this camp each player will have a better understanding of the game of volleyball as a whole. Instructor: Tatiana Alvarez, BGA Head Volleyball Coach; Charlie Carlisle, BGA Varsity Volleyball Director; Staff and BGA Players WRESTLING: Wrestling Camp Ages: 6-14; Minimum of ten participants Dates: June 10-13, 1-4 p.m. Cost: $110 in advance, $130 at the door Sensing Wrestling Room This camp, for new and experienced wrestlers, will focus on fundamentals of wrestling positions through drilling, live wrestling, and games, and is designed for the wrestler who aspires to reach his full potential and wrestle at the high school level. Instructor: Robert Jemison, BGA Head Wrestling Coach, Staff and BGA Wrestlers YOGA: Kids Yoga, Mindfulness, and My 5 Senses Ages:5-9; Class size: 7-16 participants Dates: July 15-19, 1-4 p.m. Cost: $190 Our littlest yogis will have a blast during this week of fun-filled yoga poses, games, songs, and more! Each day will focus on a different sensory system (seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, tasting). Using mindfulness principles, yoga, and arts and crafts, we will explore that sense in a fun and creative way! Instructor: Habitat Yoga Staff Peaceful Yoga Warriors Ages: 7-11; Class size: 7-20 participants Dates: July 8-12, 1-4 p.m. Cost: $190 Are you ready to become a strong yogi warrior?! Yoga meets fitness in this camp full of noncompetitive games that focus on building teamwork, kindness, balance, dexterity, strength, and flexibility. ACADEMICS BGA 101: Kindergarten Ages: Incoming BGA Kindergarten, Minimum of eight participants Dates: July 22-26, 9 a.m. to Noon This camp is for rising Kindergarten BGA students. Your child will become acquainted with their new school, teachers, routines, and curriculum. This course is for those who have the passion for a deeper understanding of how things go from raw to plated. Campers will design a dish, order the ingredients, cook, and plate their dishes for presentation. Culinary III comes complete with a chef coat and knife to take home. This is an advanced course. Instructors: Joshua Winstock, BGA Food and Beverages Director/Executive Chef, and James Johnson, BGA Sous Chef DRIVER S EDUCATION: Brentwood Driver Training Ages: 15 and up; Class size: 5-25 students Dates: June 17-21, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. dismissal on Friday) Cost per session: $430 BGA is excited to offer a driver s education program through Brentwood Driver Training. The entire course is completed in one week and consists of 30 hours of classroom time and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. The class will be held on the Battle Ground Academy campus for five days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (2:30 dismissal on Friday). The driving lessons will be completed during class, with some lessons possibly after class. Everyone that completes this course will receive a driver s education certificate good for an insurance discount. When taking this course, you can be exempt from taking the tests at the Driver Testing Station (see eligibility). Permit/License Eligibility: You can take our driver s ed course anytime between the ages of 14.5 and 18 years old. You can complete the course to earn your certificate and insurance reduction. Then, when you are within 90 days of turning 16, you can come back and test with us for your license by taking a quick road test with one of our staff. If you are 15 years old or will turn 15 by the last day of your class, then you may test for your learner s permit with us. If you are 16 years old or will turn 16 within six months after the class, and you already have a learner s permit, then you may test for your driver s license with us. The CDTP Awareness Form you receive from us, which you will provide to the Licensing Station, is given in addition to the Driver Education Certificate of Completion used for insurance discounts. The CDTP Awareness Form is valid for 365 days (one year) from the date of testing. We do not guarantee a permit or license just by attending our course. You must also successfully pass the test we give for permit or license. Electronic Game Design: Bug Invasion Ages: 7-12; Class size: participants Dates: July 8-12, 1-4 p.m. Cost: $195 Eek! The bugs are after our birthday cake!! In Electronic Game Design: Bug Invasion, we will create our own version of an invader defense game that is set in a home where we have to defend our birthday cake from an infestation of ravenous bugs! We will use the Engineering Design Process to create a storyboard to outline the rules of play and characters for our game. Then, we will use Clickteam Fusion 2.5 to bring our storyboard to life with programming. At the end of the class, everyone takes home a working Windows-compatible game. Gaming & Hacking Language Ages: 11-18; Minimum 3 participants Dates: June 3-7, 1-4 p.m. Codebreaking, decoding, computer programming, puzzles, and every language from Armenian to Zulu, from Dothraki and Klingon to Elvish and Daedric. We will explore how languages work whether modern, ancient, or fictional. How do Siri, Google Translate, Alexa, and other language coding projects make sense of human language? How do we make sense of it? Through fun language games and puzzle-solving, we will hack our way to answers as students learn about the upcoming field of computational linguistics and prepare themselves to compete in state and national linguistics Olympiads.
