1 August 2017 Hold on, August Commanders is here already!!! Corner From the desk of the Commander Hardin Post 113 We will start the month off with our General Membership Meeting on August 3 rd and during the meeting we will be donating to several deserving charities. Please join us as we continue to do great things for our local community. The meeting starts at 7:00 PM and just prior to the meeting there will be a free dinner at 6:15. It s a good time to mingle and meet new friends. The Membership Drive for 2018 is currently on-going. The adjutant will be available before and after the membership meeting to assist you in the renewal process and to provide you with your 2018 membership card. New door cards will be available as well for 2018 members. Check out the post calendar because August has no shortage of activities! The Legion will have fun dance night for all of the Legion families on August 5th. The live band will be Bar Nuns without a cover-charge for all 2018 paid Legion family members - YES, free for 2018 paid members! There will be a reduced cost for 2017 members and guests are always welcome. Also, our Special Olympics Golf Scramble is scheduled for 5 August! Join us for a great breakfast on the August 12th and on that same day the annual American Legion Riders' Jackpot Poker Run. The Legion Riders really kicked it up a couple of notches this year because as part of the Jackpot Poker Run paid hand you will get into the dance that night. The band is a rock band called Rock Station out of Louisville. A fantastic concert awaits! Plan to join us! I want to say thank you to all of our volunteers that keep us going strong. If you have just a few hours a month or every other month to volunteer, it really is appreciated. You will find out quickly how personally rewarding it can be. John Saunders, Commander It s not the price you pay to belong... It s the price you paid to be eligible. It s time to go back to school for the children. As an Auxiliary member, take time to shop those back to school specials, donating what you can to support teachers and students in the area. Our support is greatly appreciated. Donna Thurman is the education chairman this year, contact her or myself if you have school supplies to donate or bring them to the next meeting. July was busy! A big thank you to all who helped sell the 2,163 tickets that made this happen! The 4th of July event was a success, everyone who attended had a fun time celebrating, playing games, having their face painted, un-cycling and even some dancing! A big thank you to the volunteers who gave their time and talent for this event, your efforts ensured the enjoyment of others! Check out the calendar for August upcoming events: August 5th Special Olympics Golf Tournament and FREE dance for members who paid 2018 membership dues, August 12th Legion Breakfast and the ALR Jackpot Poker Run and Dance. 4 Chaplains Corner How to Win the Battle Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:14-15 The promised word of God says that if we meet our battles with peace and respond to the upsets in life with peace, we will experience victory. It s a paradox; it doesn t make any sense. How can we win if we stop fighting? Moses told the Israelites not to fight when they found the Red Sea facing them on one side and the Egyptian army chasing them on the other. They became frightened and he told them, Fear not; stand still (firm, confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest - Exodus 14: They were at war and it was necessary for them to respond with peace in order for God to win them their battle. God will fight for you as you show your confidence in Him and his promises by being peaceful. Hold on to your peace, He will do the same for you. Are you fighting a battle when you should be holding your peace? Choose to stop fighting and trust God to fight for you. That is how to win a battle. Please pray for: Jane Gray / Dave Hayes / Ron Atkinson / Jeff Hall / Steve Curry / Herb Ritchie / Darlene Probus / Jonah Grogan / Garry Dalton / Wayne Ray / Jim Davidson / Charlotte VanKirk / Sally McKinney / Eddie Gilmore / Mary Archambault Please feel free to contact Post 113 Chaplain Randy, for prayer needs and also to share our legion blessings Send an to: james.crank@twc.com Concert / Dance with the acclaimed rock and roll band, Rock Station Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 12th! Music starts at 8:00pm until midnight. Cost is $10.00 a the door but is FREE to those who participate in the ALR Poker Run that morning.

The Ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary Hardin Unit 113, would like to thank all the great people in our community that helped make our poppy distribution a success during our Poppy Days. Thank you to the following merchants that allowed us to distribute our memorial poppy in front of their stores: Price Less, Roses, Rural King, Sam s Club, Elizabethtown Walmart and Radcliff Walmart. To the wonderful people who made donations, please know that all those poppy funds are devoted entirely to rehabilitate and to further assist veterans and their families. Thank you sincerely for caring and giving to the poppy fund. The generous support of individuals like you helps us continue in our mission. Thank you again for your support! A very special thank you to all American Legion Auxiliary, American Legion and SAL volunteers who devoted their time during Poppy Days.
