Committed to the continuous improvement of patient care and outcomes through the advancement of knowledge in the medical community, MERC offers customized programs and learning experiences. MERC s mission is to educate surgeons around the world about innovative surgical techniques and products. MERC offers a variety of state-of-the-art training programs tailored to the needs of surgeons. Designed and led by experienced spine surgeons, MERC courses offer hands-on labs, case reviews, and discussions to provide both practical experience and product knowledge. 3 Cadaveric Learning Under the guidance of experienced spine surgeons, hands-on cadaver workshops focus on innovative surgical techniques and approaches with a typical 2:1 faculty-to-surgeon ratio. The primary objective of these cadaveric programs is to create an interactive environment, where surgeons and faculty can engage in clinical discussion on surgical concepts and then apply those concepts during a cadaver workshop. During the cadaver workshop, surgeons will have an opportunity to utilize state-of-the-art technologies which deliver industry leading solutions to surgeons and their patients. Cadaveric programs are designed with the intention to progress a surgeon through the learning process and enable them to become proficient with a specific surgical technique. The programs consist of both group cadaveric courses and oneto-one preceptorship training. Surgeons who are interested in learning new surgical techniques or enhancing their skill sets would be ideal candidates for these programs. Didactic Learning The didactic programs are designed to showcase innovative technologies and surgical techniques in a group learning environment. This is an optimal way to be introduced to relevant surgical approaches through case reviews, sawbone labs, panel debates, product fairs, and topic based discussions and lectures. Preceptorships MERC offers a variety of preceptorship training opportunities that are available at various locations throughout the United States. These programs offer practicing orthopaedic and neurological spine surgeons the opportunity to improve and refine their skills through case observations, surgical instruction and/or hands-on cadaveric training. Skin-to-Skin Skin-to-Skin Preceptorship programs are an ideal way to learn and enhance spinal surgical techniques through one-on-one training. What makes these programs so unique is the peer-to-peer interaction with Key Opinion Leaders who are experts in the industry. Highlights of the program include: The visiting surgeon will observe and train on the selected approach(es) and procedure(s) from start to finish, including patient positioning, access, approach, imaging and fusion techniques. After observing the selected approach(es) and procedure(s) with KOL s, the visiting surgeons will then have the opportunity to experience hands-on cadaveric learning to help solidify the learning experience.
