3 Welcome! As we began making sale preparations, I was struck by how quickly time goes by. I hate to sell em. These heifer calves are our future and we believe we are headed in the right direction. We set out in the Reds to make bulls that could truly compete. We believe we ve come a long way with Lightning and Lion Heart, but we still have progress to make in our Pursuit of Perfection. With beef prices where they are and where I believe they will stay now more than ever we need bulls weaning in that 800 to 900-lb. range and yearlings in that 1,400 to 1,600-lb. range. How else will we have 1,250 to 1,350-lb. terminal-weight steers in 12 to 14 months? Feed intake is obviously a key component in profi t but it s nothing compared to the cost of keeping them on feed an extra 30 to 60 days. All of this being said, the struggle is to keep your cowherd pretty and feminine, and your bulls stout and masculine yet chisel fronted. We ve harped on feet and legs until every animal in this sale has a great set of wheels. We also believe you ll love their udders. But as more and more of our top-notch heifers and bulls are produced via IVF, we need to stay focused on femininity, fertility and milking ability. There will come a day all too soon when a handful of bulls will sire all the beef calves that year, much like dairy or pork or poultry. But in the mean time, it is our duty to make sure the traits are there so that Red Angus may be part of those composites. This is the deepest set of heifers we ve raised. Top to bottom they are really impressive. I can t pick out a favorite but I can sure talk ya through them. Jason, Blake, Chris, AJ, WoJo, Blake, Myron and even Hootie can as well. She has the prettiest udder of any Angus cow I ve ever seen, and an excellent set of hard feet. A half sister by McQueen was a sale highlight and sold to Camiel Blomme. This heifer is deep, dark red, dark footed and good legged. She s really green but coming on strong. 4

She still dons the cover of our website. She carries herself like no other female in our herd. Her head and neck come out of her shoulder so high it s spectacular to see her move. She s a gorgeous uddered female with a giant dark, round foot, plus I can ride her. This heifer calf reminds me of her. This is the one that has potential to be great. She hurt herself or a black one hurt her shortly after her arrival from our cooperators. For all of these reasons we are selling one-half embryo interest without possession. The day before the show everyone was a buzz in Denver about the big shaggy bred in our stall that recently won Keystone. Everyone asked if she was for sale? She was and he was only asking five for half, I ve never heard more Monday-morning quarterbacking from a group of cowboys in all my life. This calf continues to impress and leads off the March calves. She s dark footed, super sound, long and deep it s hard to find a hole in her with lots off grow left. She s one to jump on. The Visionary thing is probably gonna only get better. Her dam is by Mulberry with a picture-perfect udder, and she s that really cute one in the ad a couple years ago peering out of the calf shed. But don t let that fool you. Big time weaning weight, big time set of numbers and Lightning has put a set of wheels under her classed her up. I like to refer to this one as, hiding the veggies in the Mac and cheese. The great thing about this one is she ll make you piles of money on heifer calves or bull calves. Her brother, Majestic Superfly A119, is working in the Heavican Genetics program in Rogers, Neb., and we are expecting great things from him. 14 PURSUIT OF PERFECTION IN BULL POWER MAJESTIC ZULU WARRIOR B33 # B33 TMMR 1Z 100% 4/25/ We ve made a habit of identifying cows or cow families targeting them to buy or flush, then use Lightning to create exceptional progeny. The Lightning daughter that is the dam of Zulu Warrior is no exception. He is the culmination of the mating of Forster Copprqueen 7168, the dam of UBAR Grand Prix, to Majestic Lightning 717. In turn, mated to Sideways, and here is her natural calf, Zulu Warrior. He is stout enough yet rangy enough to be fitting of the title Zulu warrior. In fact he s the best Sideways son we have bred and heir apparent to his sire s great track record of producing gorgeous females. We believe females should be feminine and bulls should be masculine. There s something innate in these two highly heritable traits that drives fertility. Mind you, Majestic Zulu Warrior B33 is only an April baby and merely four months old or so at the time this picture was taken. If you hadn t guessed, we think he s special!
