2 Welcome Welcome to our 7th Annual Bull Sale! What an exciting time to be in the cattle industry! With all-time record prices being set, and consumers still buying beef, it just goes to show that there is a shortage of beef and the demand for good beef is strong! We at Valnes Ranch Red Angus are anxious to show you the set of bulls that we have raised this year. I have been in the registered Red Angus business since 1992 and am a fourth generation rancher. We have been working hard to keep improving the quality of our bulls that we have to offer to you and feel that these bulls will help you to reach the rising demand for beef within you herds by using our genetics. Our bulls are very feed effi cient, easy fleshing, with good bone and feet. They have excellent dispositions, which makes it really nice to work with them. All this is as result of our selections in bulls and females that we use within our herds. We have put a lot of time into our research of which herd bulls to use and select for use within our program. They all have excellent feet, good depth of rib and strong top lines, as well as all come from proven cows with great udders. They have done a great job for us, and we are certain that their sons will do a good job for you also! The herd bulls that we have raised out of some of our best cows and proven A.I. sires have certainly surpassed our expectations this year as their sons have outperformed the sons of other proven A.I. sires. We feel this is a real testament as to what our bulls will be able to do for you in your herds. We hope that you are as pleased with them as we are. With last winter being such a cold and harsh winter on the cows, it seemed to have an effect on the birth weights of our calves some. This is a result of the cow s blood fl owing a little faster to keep warm which adds a little more to the calf. Their weights are not to out of line but we did have more calves around that 95 lbs. to 105 lbs., making our birth weights 10 to 15 lbs. heavier than normal. They were all born unassisted and we are certain that this will not be an issue for you, so buy them with confi dence. We want to thank all our customers for supporting us as we moved our sale to the ranch last year and felt that is was a lot nicer for all involved. The birth weight itself infl uences calving ease by 65%. 2. The female has 60% to 70% infl uence on the birth weight of her calf. 3. The bull has 30% to 40% infl uence on the birth weight of his progeny. 4. Pelvic measurement and angle, as well as the shape of the calf has 35% to 40% infl uence on calving ease. 5. Length of gestation greatly affects birth weight. A fetus can gain over 1 pound per day in the last days of gestation. 6. Weather and temperature the last 30 days affect the length of gestation. 7. Size and maturity of the heifer infl uences calving ease. 90% of the bulls offered on sale day have low maintenance EPDs. Less feed means more money left in your pocket.

RETAINED SEMEN INTEREST: We are retaining a 1/3 semen interest in all the sale bulls unless otherwise indicated. Full possession sells on all bulls. BREEDING GUARANTEE: We guarantee all bulls to be breeders. We intend to have all bulls tested before the sale and a breeding soundness exam done. If for some reason we are unable to, we recommend you have the bull s semen tested a couple of weeks before turnout time. If after two tests a bull is found to be a non-breeder, we will replace the bull or allow credit toward next year s sale. This guarantee is void if there is any evidence of improper management in caring for the animal, or the bull s inability to breed is due to sickness or injury that was incurred after being sold. We sold one bull brother to Crump Red Angus and we put four full brothers in our commercial herd and we put Z18 in the registered herd. He may not have the big, high EPD numbers but neither did Indeed himself and look what he did for the breed and how sought after he is. All the sons out of our Z18 Indeed herd bull will have daughters with exceptional udders that will really milk and their sons will defi nitely have tons of eye appeal and push the scales down at weaning. His dam has a very nice udder and good feet. Remember when looking at his EPDs that his grandsire, Indeed, did not have the highest EPDs either but look what he did for the Red Angus breed. This calf will do the same, and just take a look at the rest of Z18 s sons through out the sale catalog and you will see lots of power, growth, and style in these calves. He is dark cherry red, as long as you can make one, really deep ribbed, very correct and super easy fl eshing. His dam has a perfect udder, is really deep ribbed and just a powerhouse of a cow. Don t let the birth weight scare you he is smooth made. He was just so long when he was born it added some weight, but he will be an easy calver. He will sire both some great females and herd bulls or some big stout steers that will really feed well. His pedigree is stacked with greatness, from the Indeed bull, to the BHR Duke bull, to the old Ed Artz cow that produced many of our top females such as this line right here.
