3 Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to study our catalog! This marks our 12th year of selling Red Angus seed stock in a production sale and our third year here at home. We consider it an honor and a privilege to serve you! For all of those who came to last year s sale and bid online, we say thank you! We had another record crowd. I think folks have heard about Jane s hospitality and good cooking! It is so humbling to have many repeat customers and very exciting to see so many new faces and make new friends. FAITH, FAMILY, FRIENDS! As you look at the ad to the left of this page, you will see that Red Angus cattle are earning their way at becoming the breed of increased value for the beef industry. Leading the way are Red Angus replacement females. For 35 years now, Red Angus cattle have been a part of our cattle business. It started in our commercial operation; the docility, mothering ability, fertility, and all around functionality of the momma cow are the traits that hooked us on Red Angus. Today those same factors are what drive our breeding decisions. Our goal is to raise the best mother cow we can. By doing this, we have been able to raise bulls that have gone out to seed stock producers from coast to coast, as well as Mexico to Canada. With that said, the backbone of our operation is the commercial cattleman. There is a lot of talk about calving ease in the industry with the age of the cattlemen and cattlewomen. We strive here at Rich Red Angus to produce cattle that are born unassisted and will grow to have high weaning weights and also lead to high slaughter weights! Some say this is not possible. We believe it is and strive for it. At the end of the day, every animal is sold by the pound. The more pounds you sell the more value to your bottom line. That is how we stay in business. We also ultrasound all the bulls. If you sell on the grid, this information should be helpful to you as well. The cattle in this year s offering are deeper than ever with our ET and AI program producing many full siblings and half-brothers; therefore, you have the opportunity to purchase multiples. With that said, we put a lot of emphasis on our herd bulls. The last two years our high selling sire groups have been out of bulls we have raised and used! My mentor, Mr. Rex James, told me many years ago If you can t raise a bull better than you can buy, you better not be selling seed stock. I took that challenge to heart. Crimson Tide 135, the sire, has been a super bull for us siring top selling sons and daughters. RRA Roll Tide 355 is an example. He was the high selling bull in 2014 that went to Lazy J Bar Ranch in South Dakota. He was also their high selling sire group in both bulls and females. Congratulations John and Steph on a great sale. We are calving Crimson Tide daughters right now. Boy, do they have good udders. In last year s sale, the second high selling bull was a Crimson Tide son that went to Turtle River Cattle in North Dakota. I believe lots 1 and 2 are as good as their daddy was at this age with the added strength of their dam RRA 303, who is a Mulberry daughter out of the famous Lakme cow line from Canada. He also has outstanding natural thickness, and excellent big feet. The way he travels effortlessly, with a wide base is sure to catch your eye. We are very proud of this bull here at Rich Red Angus and feel that he is one of the best bulls we have raised in recent years. When you study his pedigree, phenotype, and performance, you will see why we believe this bull will be a profit maker! He had a 78lb birth weight, 714lb weaning weight, and weighed 1480lbs on 1/4/16. Rachel is good footed, travels well, and has a massive amount of bone with a large foot. She has abundant milking ability and a great udder, excellent disposition, and has great eye appeal. We chose to use Power Eye after visiting with Blair s Ag in Canada, and hearing their excitement with the calves that were sired by Power Eye. These bulls have an average birth weight of 74lbs. Take a look through the next four lots and you can see the consistency and quality in this mating. We will be retaining a 50% semen interest on s 5-8. RRA POWER EYE Reg# A 100% DOB 12/14/2014 BW 78 WW ADG 3.72 This is the most powerful bull in the mating. He posted the best growth numbers of the bulls in this mating. He travels very well, has great foot structure, length of body, and natural thickness. He has an IMF of 4.19 with a ratio of 132. This was the anchor bull in the class winning Pen of bulls we took to Denver this year for the NWSS. 6 RRA POWER EYE Reg# A 100% DOB 12/17/2014 BW 73 WW ADG 3.58 This is a more moderate bull out of this mating. He is a very complete bull with a great look. This bull was Reserve in his division at the National Western Stock Show in Denver this year on the Hill.

He was the lead bull in our Pen of bulls shown in Denver at the NWSS this year. We opted to hold him from the sale due to wanting to see what kind of potential he would have in the show ring in the future. He is very complete in his phenotype. He has excellent feet and legs with an impressive amount of bone. He has a nice, wide, square hip with a very strong and straight topline. He also has a clean front with great extension. Like his brothers, he shows great thickness, power, and depth of body. He scanned well, with an IMF of 3.77 and a ratio of 119. He also had an REA of 13.7 with a ratio of 101. We were very impressed with the consistent calving ease of Power Eye, and would feel confident in using Hawkeye 519 on heifers as well as smaller framed cows. 7
