1 Special Frederiksen Newsletter October 22, 2015 Volume 16, Issue #5 This special edition of The Connection is all about Halloween fun and activities you can do and attend on campus, in Ames and surrounding communities. It may also help our international residents understand and have fun with our Halloween Holiday! Stop in Hawthorn this weekend to see the entries in Freddy s 15th Annual Pumpkin Painting contest. They will amaze you! Thank you to all who entered. Thank you to the Frederiksen Court Community Council for sponsoring the contest and to Hawthorn/ISU Dining for donating the pumpkins. The Phantom's domain is as terrifying as ever with blood-curdling features and a ghoulish layout, designed to shock your soul at every morbid turn! Ames Haunted Forest is all set for its best year yet! Prepare yourself for a full thirty minutes of fear-packed excitement and the scariest walk you'll take all year! Saturday, Oct 24 8pm-10pm Freeman Hall Free for Everyone 1 package (18.25 ounces) refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough or your favorite recipe ½ cup prepared vanilla frosting, tinted red 1¾ cups miniature marshmallows 48 slivered almonds 1. Prepare cookies as directed on package or according to your favorite recipe. Cool completely. Cut each cookie in half for a total of 48 halves. Frost the bottoms of all cookie halves with frosting. Place 6 marshmallow teeth around curved perimeter of 24 halves. For additional support, an additional marshmallow can be placed behind the teeth. Top with remaining 24 halves. Insert two almond slivers in between teeth for fangs. If fangs do not adhere, dip tips into frosting. *No animals were injured in the making of this game. THEY WERE SPARED!

Next you can shape your mummies heads and create their faces. You will need some bacon, onion, olives, string cheese if you want to make mummies, and anything else you might want to decorate their faces with. Cut onions to make eyes and teeth. Wrap with bacon to make mummy. Cook it at 350 F for minutes, depending on the size of the mummy. Drizzle with BBQ sauce or ketchup for that nice bloody look!

You need to fill out the on-line Contract Cancellation in Access Plus and a paper Waiver form. Staying until sometime during the spring semester, and then leaving for Student Teaching? You need to fill out the paper Waiver form for Frederiksen Court. (Do NOT fill out the Contract Cancellation until two weeks before leaving.) Withdrawing from ISU at the end of the fall semester? Complete the Contract Cancellation in Access Plus. Graduating in December? Complete the Contract Cancellation in Access Plus. Complete the cancellation on Access Plus. Where do you get the paper waiver form? Go to the Freddy Office in the Community Center, 2419 Friley or (Student Housing/Facts, Forms & Figures, Forms & Documents). Return the form to the Freddy Office or 2419 Friley. If you have a roommate leaving your apartment at the end of fall semester, you and your roommates have first option to pull in a roommate of your choice, using Access Plus. Go to for instructions. If you have a problem call or stop by 2419 Friley for assistance. The Move Roommate step must be done no later than December 1, as the following day all vacancies will be available for other people to select. Flu vaccines are available through the Student Health. No appointment is necessary; students can walk in from 9am to noon on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Otherwise, students can make an appointment for a time that fits into your schedules. The flu vaccine is $30 (injection) or $30 (nasal mist). Following traditional billing procedures, cost will be billed to a student s insurance first, and any unpaid cost will be billed to your u-bill. Call the clinic at with any questions. You will need your ISU Card. CARRY YOUR KEYS AND ACCESS CARD AT ALL TIMES! Your first lock out is free, but all other after hours lockouts cost you $25. Avoid paying $25. Make sure you have your keys & card when you leave the apartment. Make sure your access card is working. If you do get locked out, call your roommates to let you in before calling the CA on Call. Carry your keys and card. AVOID LOCK OUTS!

We suggest you require a signature so the package is not left outside your apartment door where it could get stolen! Personal routers are being used at Freddy and their use is impacting the Wi-Fi for everyone else. This is a community issue. If you know of someone using a personal router, please help by asking him or her to turn it off immediately. You need to disable wireless printing capabilities as well. The Wi-Fi signal from your printer can also interfere with the wireless signal in our buildings. We are receiving the apartment locations of these routers and each resident in the apartment will be contacted. In some cases, the residents will be asked to meet with Frederiksen staff. If routers are not turned off by the given date, IT capabilities will be turned off. If your Wi-Fi is not working, contact the Solution Center at Hawthorn is still hiring for fall semester and gives preference to Freddy residents. Apply at and bring your class schedule to room in the Community Center between 8am-10am or 2pm-4pm, Monday Friday. Several positions are still available in the morning, during lunch, and late nights.
