The pieces of art will be on display from 5pm Tuesday evening until Thursday afternoon. I hope many of you will join us in celebrating our creative talents at Balmoral. Malcolm Milner Principal (Te Tumuaki)
Staffing Changes Judith Knight will be joining our New Entrant Team from the start of Term 4. Most recently Judith has been a Head Teacher of a local kindergarten. Property The school has finally gained possession of the two pre-fabricated classrooms that were brought onto the school fields one year ago. This establishment process has been one of sheer frustration from the Board, staff and children. We can only hope that the process from this point forward is hugely improved. On the main build we still have not had any communication from the Ministry of Education on when our design meetings will restart. We await with baited breath. Balmoral Has Talent It was an exciting and entertaining event yesterday afternoon as some of Balmoral s talent was put on show at the final of Balmoral Has Talent. With contestants from both the Intermediate and the senior primary school, the competition was hot! A truly musical affair, there was dance, song, and bands and acro. We were also entertained by a video of some mean scootering skills. And the winners were 3 rd place Georgi Buckett Y5. Song, Count on Me. 2 nd place Jorja Stevens Y8. Original song, I m Too Young. 1 st place Isla Ross and Anna Hagele Y6. Jazz dance.

Tēnā koutou Intermediate Whānau, Intermediate News On Wednesday of last week, Malcolm and I travelled to Tauranga to see our teams participate in the annual AIMS (Association of Intermediate and Middle Schools) Games. I was impressed by the camaraderie shown by the children and their excellent sportsmanship. Their skills on and off the netball court and football fields was outstanding and their resilience when faced with a loss was highly commendable. It was fantastic to see so many parents (and grandparents) there supporting our children. Much thanks and acknowledgement must go to our teachers Michelle Murray, Joanna Douglas and Dan Allen for accompanying and managing our teams for the week. I would particularly like to thank Michelle for the wonderful work she does behind the scenes to make this event possible for our teams. Naku noa, Kate and the Intermediate Team Mufti Day Student Council News Our next mufti day is next Tuesday and we are raising money for our legacy an Apple computer that we can use to create episodes of Balmoral TV. Please bring along $2 remember, if we raise $500, Kate will wear school uniform at assembly if we raise $700, Malcolm will wear school uniform too!! Student Councillors Room 7 Shared Learning from Rooms 7 and 28 In Room 7 we have been making and creating items to sell at the Farmers market, which is on tomorrow. We voted on some ideas that we thought would be good to sell. Our main focus was on trying to be as eco-friendly as possible and recycle as much as we could. Items we upcycled were pallet wood for Whakatauki, old crayons for Crayon Art, clay coasters and animals, lemons, oranges and grapefruit from our own trees to make our own fruit juice called Grapenade and of course, Sherbet! Skills we used were co-operating in our teams, not going off task and sticking to our plan!
We can t wait to see how much money we make for the gardens and the Environmental group in our school.
Room 28 During our class nga kaihōpara. Room 28 had a go at making some cyanotypes. Cyanotype Link We used a 'Sunprint Kit', carefully following the instructions on the back, as none of us had done cyanotype prints before. Through trial and error, we discovered a lot about the process. We had to consider the time we exposed the print to the light, based on the Sun's intensity. From what we observed the best time exposure seemed to be about 4 minutes. We also found out that not leaving the paper soaking in the water but just dipping it in, worked best. The shapes that seemed to work best were, flat shapes with dark and distinct, clear outlines. There were varying degrees of success, but great learning was made through the mistakes we made. We could consider changes we would make to the process, based on our own and others experiences.
AIMS Girls Football On Sunday, 10 September the girls Balmoral football team went down to Mount Manganui for The Anchor AIMS Games At seven o clock, later that day, The AIMS Games was officially opened with an awesome opening ceremony. There was great entertainment and some inspirational speakers from Olympians. Sports News Day one kicked off with an intense first game against tough competition Baradene. Tied 2 all. The next two games we won, 6-0 and a whopping The following day we won all of our matches except one with a draw, continuing our winning streak. Wednesday was the last of the pool games. It started off with a win then it went down-hill. A rugby match with Saint Peter's Cambridge and a close battle with ANI, losing 1-0. Our great efforts got the team into the top 16. Then we played St Mary's and had a nail biting game losing 2-1, a disappointing loss. That loss meant we were drawn against St Peter s again. With another rough match losing 3-2 with great goals from Natalie and Isla and some solid defending from Hannah, Madi and Harriet. The last day had arrived and we were playing one game against home team Mount Maunganui for 15th and 16th place. We had cracker of a game, winning 3-1 with a steady and solid game putting us in 15th position. Go Balmoral!!! Special thanks to Michael Brook for coaching us all so well, Joanna Douglas for managing the team and for some great parking skills. Lastly thanks to Joanne Oliver for organizing the fundraising and transport. Hannah and Natalie Brook Boys Football AIMS was a very great experience to be away from home with your friends all week playing a sport you love. There were over 10,000 athletes competing in lots of different sports, one of the sports was even for the para division. We really recommend trying out for a team because you never know what greatness you can get out of it. We came 12 out of 59 schools. We played well as a team and scored
some amazing goals! Teddy was top goal scorer, he scored 13 goals in 10 games and the overall fair play award went to Theo Middleton. Keith was a great coach throughout the training and the tournament, thanks! Lenny Anderson and Theo Bus Netball On Sunday,10 September our netball team drove down to Tauranga for the AIMS Games tournament for the week. Our team of 10 was made up of four Year 7s - Josie, Hannah, Lucca and Setai, and six Year 8s - Zoe(C), Melani, Arius, Cassius, Elyse, and Hamako. Our coach was Karen Moore and our manager was Michelle Murray. In our Pool games we played 7 games, winning 6 of these, making A Grade for top 32 teams. We were all so happy and excited to play in this grade!! After that, we had to keep playing hard to win and compete for our placing We played 13 games total and placed 24th out of 128 teams in the AIMS netball competition. We thought that the whole competition was a good experience for us, playing 3 games a day. Our 3 toughest games were against Whakatane (24-11), Berkley (21-21) and Northcross (29-20). We stayed at Baygold Lodge, around half an hour drive away from the courts. Thanks to all our parents who supported us at AIMS. Elyse Neill and Hamako Kawaguchi. Yachting Sam Scott was the only member of the yachting from Balmoral School this year. Overall, there were very tough, windy conditions out on the Tauranga Port this year with many abandoned sailors and two races called off. A tough 3 days in the office for all concerned. Great fun, great learning and Sam was very proud to represent Balmoral again. He came in 26th overall out of a total of 96 sailors - and placed 11th in the Yr 8 boys! Well done to all the competitors from the school, I think it was another great AIMS for Balmoral, and an awesome experience for all those involved.
