FYI.. The last day of school will be May 19 th. We will have Honor s Night on Thursday, May 18 7:00 and 7:00 on May 19 th.
2 Info around BCHS Teachers are still staying for tutoring afterschool. A great way for your child to get caught up with their work and/or extra help. Baseball, Softball, Track and Tennis Schedules are all in the newsletter.
3 What is going on in Sports.. Baseball - The Bracken County Baseball Polar Bears won their first game against Williamstown on March 21 st. Brady Jones was the pitcher with win #!. Finishing out the pitching was Will Jones, Logan Sorrell and Nick Jones. Congratulations to Coach Charles! The Polar Bears next game is Friday, March Home verses Newport. Softball The Lady Bears first two games of the season were cancelled due to bad weather.. Thursday, Mar. 23 rd the girls headed to Holmes High School. They lost but their next game is Friday night, March 24 Campbell County and they are looking for their first win tonight! Tennis the first match for Tennis was also cancelled due to inclement weather. On March 22 nd they headed to Harrison County. Marshall Brown won in singles. Billy Mincey won in singles. Hunter Ebert won Singles
4 also. Doubles of Steve Millburn and Hunter Ebert got a big win, Hannah Welte won singles, Aleyssa Bex won singles, Doubles consisting of Fryman and Bex won. The next match was at Paris. Boys and girls won both matches. The girls are 2-0 on the season and the boys are 1-1. Congrats Tennis team!
5 FCCLA FCCLA IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT Makenleigh Cooper, BCHS, has been elected FCCLA State Vice President of Membership. This takes hardwork and campaigning and we are all very proud of her. Kaleigh Woods, a BCHS, has received one of the highest honors in FCCLA. Kaleigh has won the Agnes Foster Award. This award was given to her at the FCCLA state meeting in Louisville. Star event winners are: Chapter in Review Jr. 1 st place McKenzie Sebastion and Sarah Crouch Chapter Service Senior 2 nd place Courtney Dodson Job Interview Modified 2 nd place Ella Wright
6 Congratulations to these FCCLA students and their great success. The 1 st and 2 nd place winners will advance to the National Competition in Nashville, Tennessee this summer.

9 Bracken County Track Meet Saturday, March 25, 2017 The Bracken County Track team will host the track meet on Saturday. It starts at approximately 9:30 at the new track on the football field. The first thing on the agenda is recognizing the Seniors. The meet will begin at approximately 10:00. There are other schools participating. Prices to get into the meet are Adults - $5.00; Students: $3.00. Under school age are free. Concessions will be available throughout the day. If you have never been to a track meet, come out and show our track kids that you want to support them. The Boosters are very excited about this event as it will Be the first one on the new track.

16 If you have any BRACKEN COUNTY HIGH- SCHOOL uniforms from any sport that is out of season please return them to the office. Uniforms are so expensive and new ones can only be purchased when it is that sports year. Please remember that these uniforms are Bracken County High School property. We are asking that you check around the house and if you see anything that belongs to school please bring it in. Thanks! ALWAYS RETURN THE SCHOOL S UNIFORMS Don t forget cheerleaders, Lady Bear basketball and Polar Bear Basketball your uniforms need to be turned in to your coaches. Parents please see that this happens. Coaches please keep a checkoff list!
17 SENIOR BABY PICTURE ADS Hey moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas and any other family members.this is the time the yearbook class offers you the opportunity to place a baby add in the 2017 yearbook. If you send pictures and want them kept secret, put them in a sealed envelope and bring to the office. (we will do our best to keep these secret). We will see that Mrs. Cary Carl gets them. Read the information below and make plans to do something special for your SENIOR!

20 PROM IS APPROACHING Bracken County High School will celebrate the prom on Saturday, April 29 th. This year any student that is bringing an outside guest must fill out the paper below. (Please read carefully. No one 21and over, and no middle schoolers will be permitted).

24 Miscellaneous Information If a student wants to take their permit to drive, they must come to the office and get a permit paper that must be signed by the guardian/parent and a school administrator. Please do by Wednesday if you are going on a Friday. Bad grades and poor attendance can keep this from happening. Important fact: All sport participates need a physical. This includes football, volleyball, tennis, track, golf, archery, cross-country, girl s basketball, boy s basketball, and cheerleading. KHSAA physicals are required and can be picked up in the office before you go to the doctor. Parents you can check on your student s grades by logging in and looking at the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus. If you are interested contact Ext. 46

29 Fundraisers In the Monthly newsletter we will post what fundraisers are going on throughout the schools. We appreciate you supporting these fundraisers. FFA is raffling a few University of Kentucky items. 1 st prize wildcat taxidermy (shooting at a goal), 2 nd prize UK barn quilt, and 3 rd place a UK framed print. Tickets are $10 each. The prizes will be given away on April 15 th. (see picture) FCCLA is selling Krispy Kreme Donuts. $10 per box. F is selling Krispy Kreme Donuts

31 SENIOr countdown Caps and Gowns are ordered. Invitations are ordered. Quotes for the Yearbook are turned in. Senior tee shirts have been ordered and are in. Signed off on your name for the diploma list Applied for college Go on College visits (get paper from Mrs. Wright 3 days prior) Scholarships applied for and watching for new ones. (Mrs. Wright) Letters of Recommendations from teachers, family friends and upstanding people. Pay all class dues and fees so you can go to prom and walk at graduation. Planning of the senior trips at the end of the year. Seniors you need to be at school. School attendance is very important.

WHAT IS IT? Basecamp is a first step for parents and community leaders interested in taking active roles in public education in Kentucky for their own children and all children. This one-day training will introduce participants to focused and effective approaches to engagement in Kentucky s schools. By participating in Basecamp, parents and other community leaders will be well-prepared for future participation in the Governor s Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership (GCIPL). WHAT WILL I LEARN? What parent engagement and leadership means Tools to help you make sense of Kentucky s education system About education initiatives in Northern Kentucky and how you can get involved How to build relationships inside your school that will support academic achievement for all students WHO CAN ATTEND? 35 STAFF Staff.. Remember that Friday s are now Spirit Days. Please come to school wearing your blue and white and show YOUR BRACKEN SPIRIT! Staff: If you have not paid this we will be sending you an shortly. It is only fair that each of do our part. Teachers.Please pay your flower fund. Many of you have not. Unfortunately we have deaths, sickness and things of misfortune happen and we like to acknowledge our coworkers with kindness. The card is always signed BCHS Staff. Please do your part. Good news: We now have one of the Chrome Book carts available for classroom check-out. In order for the students to log into the Chrome Books, they will click onto the Log In
36 icon which shows up in the middle of the screen. Next, on the right hand side, they will click on the Browse as Guest link, which will allow them onto the machine. Teachers will assign the students the number of the Chrome Book which they will be working on and write it down in the Chrome Book Binder which will be with the cart. There will also a sign-up sheet for each of the carts. Thanks! ATTENDANCE REMINDERS: ATTENDANCE POLICY We want to remind students and parents about the attendance policy for attending prom and participating in graduation ceremonies. The explanation below is from our student handbook that students receive the first day of school. Please be aware of the number of absences and/or tardies you child has. This information is available on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you have questions about this, please contact the school. ATTENDANCE AND GRADUATION CEREMONIES Students with fifteen (15) or more absences or tardies, or a combination of both, during their senior year will not be allowed to participate in or attend Awards Night or Graduation Ceremonies. If a student is suspended the day of, or day prior to, the graduation ceremonies, the student may not participate or attend. ATTENDANCE AND PROM Students with fifteen (15) or more absences or tardies, or a combination of both, for the school year will not be allowed to attend the prom. If a student is absent or suspended the day before the prom, the student may not participate or attend. Attendance Appeals A parent/student may request an appeal of an unexcused absence or tardy through the School Attendance Appeals Committee, consisting of the Principal/Designee, Assistant Principal/Designee, School
37 Counselor/Designee, and the Director of Pupil Personnel. The request must be in writing to the building principal or counselor within (3) school days of the 15th absence/tardy. Once the appeals process has begun, the decision of the Attendance Appeals Committee is final. Appeals may also be made for a student who is not allowed to attend graduation/awards night ceremonies or the prom due to excessive absences/tardies. The parent/student may make the appeal to the School Attendance Appeals Committee. The request must be in writing to the building principal or counselor within (3) school days of the 15th absence/tardy. Once the appeals process has begun, the decision of the Attendance Appeals Committee is final. \ PARENTS / GUARDIANS: PLEASE REMEMBER TO ATTEND YOUR CHILDS ATTENDANCE APPEAL AFTER THEY HAVE HAD 15 TARDY/ABSENCE (EVENTS)
