Fauquier Community Theatre's Spotlight Painting Stories for 34 Years July, 2012 In This Issue Current Show Youth Performance Sponsorship Opportunities Scholarships Season Subscriptions FCT needs to replace trailer Spring Festival Performance Spotlight On: Becky Carver Facebook Fauquier Community Theatre Presents: A Midsummer Night's Dream By William Shakespeare Directed By Hannah Malinowski Sponsored By a grant from Piedmont Community Foundation August 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 Friday and Saturday 8 PM, Sunday 2 PM
Tickets available online with reserved seats: or by calling Tickets are Seniors & Students $12, Adults $14 Hannah Malinowski a twenty year old student at George Mason University is directing her first full length production. Hannah, elated to direct a Shakespeare play, has directed 5 One Act plays, 4 of which were with FCT. Hannah has gathered quite a group of talented year olds to walk this journey with her. Most of the cast is between the ages of and as Hannah says, "It is awesome to be directing this age group, even though they are older than me, they are very respectful." Hannah is focusing her studies at Mason on Theater Education with a bent towards Ancient Greece and Shakespearean Works, so the opportunity that FCT has afforded her in the direction of this play, really is quite special. Pictures: Left - H. James Jenkins in the role of Theseus Right - Holly Tupper and Marc White in the roles of Hermia and Lysander Holly Tupper (18), an FCT veteran, says that this cast quickly bonded from the first day of rehearsals and she is delighted to act in her favorite Shakespeare play. Also
glad to be back on stage after a year off from acting is Dana Robeson. Dana, an actress since the age of 5 says, "I've been in the FCT audience and what a great experience to be on the FCT stage especially alongside my brother, Nolan, who is living his first acting experience. I'm so glad to be able to rehearse our lines together at home in addition to rehearsals." Directed By Jen Faulconer "Annie, Jr." Music by Charles Strouse Lyrics by Martin Charnin Book by Thomas Meehan Friday, July 27th at 7 PM Open Seating Admission is free. Donations to FCT will be accepted. The performance will be at the Fauquier Community Theatre. Performers are ages These performers worked on this production during FCT's Summer Musical Drama Camp. You will be amazed at the talent that these kids have and how they can astonishingly put on a full performance after just two weeks! Leapin' Lizards! The popular comic strip heroine takes center stage in one of the world's best-loved musicals. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan ANNIE charms everyone's hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan.
With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, ANNIE escapes to the wondrous and magical world of NYC. In adventure after funfilled adventure, ANNIE foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations and befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She finds a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. Membership FCT is a member run organization. 7 Print YOUR Season Subscription Form and be on your way to savings! The Fall Musical Sponsored By Discovery Publications An O. Henry Christmas Sponsored By NOVEC To Kill a Mocking Bird Sponsored By Deborah A. Lott, PLC Comedy of Errors (needs sponsor) The King and I Sponsored By McKinsey Development The time has finally come! FCT is going to replace our faithful old dressing room trailer with something a bit bigger and more attractive. We want to have the new unit in place by mid- September so that the fall musical can move in before Tech Week. We have identified a unit (slightly larger than the current one) that we can lease, but it is expensive and we are seeking lower cost alternatives. If you have any ideas about how we could get a trailer or modular unit donated to FCT, or at least loaned, we would love to hear from you! Thoughts on where we could buy a used unit would be helpful as well. We need to make a decision by August 1st, one way or the other, so please respond NOW if you can help. Our minimum requirements: at least 12 feet x 48 feet, with at least two exterior doors and at least two separate interior rooms, windows, and electric heat and AC. Plumbing is not required since we don't have a water hookup available outside the theater. Having more than two interior rooms would help by providing privacy for those dressing, but also having a common area where actors and actresses can put on makeup and relax while waiting to go onstage. Please share your
ideas with our Chairman, Don Richardson, by ing him at And watch this space for updates! FCT's Into The Woods performed at Warrenton's Spring Festival. Little girls dancing and taking pictures with princesses,
passerby's stopping for a second look, shoppers all gathering to see and hear FCT's characters come alive in front of the Courthouse in Old Town Warrenton. FCT took their performance on the road as some of the actors and actresses from the May musical, Into The Woods, performed two segments of four songs each during Warrenton's Spring Festival. Spotlight On Becky Carver When Becky Carver moved to Warrenton alone in 2003, she soon found friends and a place in the community and at FCT, thanks to her theatrical interest and experience. Before she knew it she was a cockney, an aristocrat, the Queen of Transylvania and a Dance Captain in My Fair Lady, and has been entertaining our audiences ever since. The following year found her in The Wiz as part of a cornfield, a Winkie and assistant Dance Captain in a very spirited production with a very large cast. Though not onstage for Hello Dolly!, Becky was in charge of its elegant hats, as she has been for other shows. In FCT's first Godspell she played Peggy in the company and, also in 2005, was the Choreographer of Guys & Dolls (remember "Bushel and a Peck", Club Havana and "Take Back your Mink"?) Becky was Reuben's wife in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as well as its dance captain. In 2007 she played Gloria and did hair and makeup design for Damn Yankees and next year was Sister Berthe and Dance Captain in The Sound of Music. Last year she played the scheming Lily St. Regis who along with partner Rooster tried to kidnap Annie and live on "Easy Street" (but only succeeded in stopping the show with that number!). Last fall she was Assistant Director/Choreographer/Caroler for A Christmas Carol, and rounded out the season in style as Jack's fearless Mother in Into the Woods.
You may have guessed that Becky is a fabulous dancer, having studied ballet, tap, jazz and ballroom in Arizona where she grew up. At Lake Havasu High she played Lady Capulet in Romeo & Juliet and Mrs. Westenra in Dracula, and as a Show Biz Kid, Aunt Em and the Oz Lady in The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, Mrs. Greer/Frances Perkins in Annie, Mrs. Paroo in The Music Man and did props for Oliver! At Mojave Community College she costumed L'il Abner, was Glinda in The Wiz, and ensemble in Fiddler On the Roof, Joseph..., South Pacific, Grease, Western Round-Up and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. At Havasu Light Opera she was Fraulein Kost in Cabaret, and Sister Margeretta in The Sound of Music. Becky is currently involved with Fourth Wall Entertainment, Inc. with Richard Perryman, Tina Embree and Tim Kirk to acquire two vintage theaters in Strasburg, not to compete with FCT but to reach new audiences with local talent through drama, music, dance and other forms of art. More about this exciting venture is available at When not on stage, Becky works as administrative assistant for Renewable Energy Solutions, helping to make this a greener world.
