With Diane and Kelsey leading 2 games to one and the 4th game tied at 10 the outcome could have been very different.

The amazing part of all of this is that Kelsey just started to play doubles in the past year and a half and she showed a natural ability for doubles and Dianne complimented her perfectly.

1 March 2013, World Health and Calgary Winter Club ALBERTA OPEN DOUBLES SQUASH Lindsay Auld/Kathy Conquergood Craig Hiddleston/Jonathon Hill Alberta Open Champions for 2013 Kathy Lindsay Dianne Kelsey Craig Jon Todd David The ladies final proved to be a very tight affair with Kathy and Lindsay winning 3 games to 2. With Diane and Kelsey leading 2 games to one and the 4th game tied at 10 the outcome could have been very different. Experience once again showed its hand as Kathy and Lindsay did not panic, persevered to win game four, subsequently running away with the 5th game. The amazing part of all of this is that Kelsey just started to play doubles in the past year and a half and she showed a natural ability for doubles and Dianne complimented her perfectly. Who knows what the future will hold for her and doubles but I see many titles to come, but I wouldn't count on Kathy and Lindsay to go down without a fight. And don t forget about those great gals in Edmonton. They are hungry, lean and mean and want the Alberta Open title back! Once again a great performance by Kathy and Lindsay as they are very deserving champions and I look forward to seeing them compete down east one of these years. Craig and Jon worked a lot harder than I think they planned on as Todd and David gave them all they can handle. Todd and Dave finally succumbed in the 4th and showed they belonged in the final. You always knew Craig and Jon had the experience, ability and smarts to win this intriguing final but the tenacity of both Todd and David, combined with David s incredible speed on the court made for some very interesting rallies. This only goes to show that the game of hardball doubles in squash can create all kinds of match-ups and that the World Health Club doubles under Jon s tutelage is indeed an incredible program with lots of very good players coming on despite its short existence. You may have been the best team 30 days ago but you had better keep looking over your shoulder because these guys are coming! Congratulations to Craig and Jon! [1]

3 On Thursday March 21, Refereeing Clinic Squash Alberta sponsored a Doubles Officiating Certification clinic held at the WHC Edgemont. The course was taught by long time dubs player and ref Brian Covernton from Vancouver BC. Brian is a Squash Canada Doubles Ref and Examiner. 12 keeners attended the clinic and there was lots of interaction and discussion for several hours. All attendees wrote an exam. Over the weekend Brian certified four refs to provincial status that included doing match evaluations which are challenging for all involved! Congratulations to provincial refs Mariette Rabacal, Jorge Rabacal, Joe Ellis and Bob Gordeyko! In addition to minting 4 new provincial refs, several more folks took a step towards National referee status. (To become a National ref you need 5 evaluations done). Brian evaluated the refs who did the finals. All passed with flying colours! Congratulations to Sara McNeil, Evita McConnell, Diane Hutchinson and Joe Ellis.
