The Carnegie Museum thanks the Montgomery County Community Foundation and Vectren for their support. Vectren will also help to judge the final stage of the competition. The theme of the Invention Convention is Green Energy and it is open to ALL Montgomery County students in grades Topics of green energy include: solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric and human power. The Guidelines for the invention convention are on page three of this newsletter. Visit for more information or stop by the museum to pick up a packet. 4 Friends receive 10% off in the gift shop! Would you be interested in volunteering at the museum and /or serving on the Friends Board of Directors? The Friends Board of Directors meet at minimum quarterly, but more often if needed. The Friends assist in fundraising, marketing, and the planning of programs and exhibits at the Carnegie Museum. If you are interested, please contact the museum at Internet Helpers The Carnegie Museum has received financial contributions from both Good Search and Shop for Museums because of your use of these websites. Thank you very much for your support of the Carnegie Museum through these Internet sites. Every little bit makes a difference! Remember to use when browsing the internet and use when shopping online! The Carnegie Museum does benefit from each time you use either of these services. Thank you! The Montgomery County deck of cards is well on its way to becoming a reality. Thank you to those who have already chosen and sponsored a card. There are still cards left to sponsor! This is a great way to commemorate a special event or dedicate a card to someone. The Friends are developing this souvenir deck of cards commemorating significant people, places, and items of the past and present of Montgomery county. All proceeds from sales of the cards will support upcoming exhibits, programming, community outreach and promotion of the museum. 1,000 of these decks will be printed and sold in this premier edition. Each card sponsorship is $95.00 and you may sponsor up to 10 cards. All sponsors names will be listed on all promotional posters and materials. Because the Carnegie Museum is a designated 501c(3) organization, all contributions are tax deductible. If you are interested in sponsoring a card, please contact the museum at * These are examples and not the actual cards.

5 Hoosier Salon Exhibit 2009 This year marks the 85th annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition. After the exhibition concludes at the Indiana State Museum the exhibition is divided into sections and those sections travel around the state. The Carnegie Museum will be hosting a portion of the exhibition. Last year s exhibition brought outstanding examples of Indiana artists to Crawfordsville. This year brings more artistic talent to the Carnegie Museum. The exhibit will officially open at the Carnegie Museum on Friday, December 4th, and remain on display through the month of December. The Museum will be open through 8 pm on that Friday. Upcoming Exhibit Items We need your help! Do you remember your High School Prom preparations? Do you still have pictures from Prom? Is there anything that you put away after Prom because it was such a special time and you didn t want to get rid of that memento? Do you still have it? The Carnegie Museum is looking for additional Prom items, such as photos, dresses, other prom attire, favors, programs, and anything else that went with Prom. All Montgomery County high schools of any era are welcome! Items can be donated to the museum or loaned. Senior cords, letter jackets, and sweaters are also welcome for both Prom and Basketball. The museum is also always looking for Montgomery County Basketball items, from any decade and for Montgomery County Business items, past or present. This Place Matters, in Collaboration with Crawfordsville Main Street You may have seen it in the papers or heard it on the radio; Crawfordsville Main Street s newest initiative endeavors to get people talking. Main Street asks Montgomery County residents local history trivia questions. Downtown Crawfordsville: This Place Matters is a promotional program aimed at sharing all the things that make our town a unique and important place. Downtown districts like Crawfordsville are rare, and disappearing all too quickly, said Kara Edie, Main Street board member and administrator of the This Place Matters program. With this program, we want to remind people of all that Crawfordsville is famous for, and help them to appreciate and fight to protect the heart of this terrific small town. Central to the This Place Matters program is an area-wide trivia contest featuring little-known historical facts about Crawfordsville s history. Some of the answers to the questions are gained by traveling around downtown Crawfordsville and some by visiting the local museums. Stop by the Carnegie Museum to brush up on your trivia and to impress your family and friends. To enter the contest, and answer some trivia questions, visit Good luck! Future Exhibits Topics Invention Convention 2010 Inside Peanuts: The Life and Art of Charles M. Shultz 2010 Montgomery County Prom 2010 Bricks 2010 Montgomery County Basketball 2011 Agriculture 2012 Did You Know Where Shades State Park got its name? He started with a blank wall, and today we now have 18 wonderfully painted pictures of architectural aspects of our culturally rich county. It is amazing to think that Kent is nearly one fourth of the way complete with his fascinating mosaic, shedding light on some possibly overlooked details of our county. So please come by the museum and see for yourself the wonderful individual masterpieces Kent has created, and witness the mosaic's progression as it grows and makes its way onto the wall of our lobby.
