I had been a girl scout leader for 9 years with 2 different MWABA: How did you get your start in troops and almost 200 kids passed through those two troops. I like coaching? working with Jessica: My mom was an kids and I amazing basketball player thought this was and was never able to play a good way to on a basketball team. She have that was so excited about Title opportunity 9 that she had me join again. every team I could. I MWABA: What are your goals? played soccer and basketball, swam, did gymnastics and ran Jessica: Create a team that is representative track. My favorite was track. I was of the diversity at West High School ; allow discouraged from cheering in High student athletes to participate in a program School. Those that know me well, that does not require prior club experience to participate.; increase the number of students would say I have always been a involved in the program ; use the cheer team cheerleader though. We are thrilled to welcome to the West coaching family, new Cheerleading Coach Jessica Carrier!! MWABA: What made you decide to apply for the coaching vacancy at West? Jessica: The coaching position has turned over each year for the past three years (I am a parent of a cheerleader during which I have supervised practices, hosted team events and have been their number one fan). This is my first year as cheer coach. I saw a dedicated group of athletes whose program WHAT IS MWABA? MWABA is the parent-volunteer booster organization for Madison West High School's 25 athletic teams. MWABA provides uniforms, equipment, scholarships, and other essentials for 1,200 student athletes who compete at various levels on our sports teams. The West High community, especially families with children participating in sports, as well as alumni and fans of West High athletics, are encouraged to join MWABA and become involved with our annual events! To join (or just donate to) MWABA: Contact a L iaison OR Pay On-L ine as a platform to showcase the talents of its participants to the West Community and beyond ; create a team that is fun and inspiring to achieve better attendance and higher grades.; help each of the participants have confidence and pride in the special talents that they bring to this world.; help the participants become healthier, stronger and better athletes.; be a valuable connection for at-risk students to West High School. I wish I would have been on cheer of course! I had no idea that I could have brought so much of my natural spirit to a squad. Instead, I just turned so many life's events into cheer opportunities. What was/ is your December 9 -Verona December 13 - Edgewood December 15 - LaFollette December Sun Prairie favorite style? Ashl ey: I started dancing when I was around 3 or 4. I was in dance and gymnastics. My parents put me in tball, soccer and all of the "gateway sports" to expose me to everything but when I got hit in the head at soccer and out too many times in tball, it was all over. I told my parents at age 3 that I wanted nothing to do with a ball ever again! My favorite styles of dance are probably hip hop and jazz as far as performing go. MWABA: How long have you been coaching/ teaching dance? I also wanted to branch out a bit and experience other environments than just the studio I've worked at and danced In my whole life. MWABA: What are your goals for this season? Ashl ey: Honestly, I was never a huge "I wish I played basketball or whatever-sport-my-friends-all-played" person, I did however, cheer my junior and senior year of high school and I do wish that I had done it freshman and sophomore year as well because it was so much fun!
