It s been a long time since we last hosted the State Wide Round Up over three years to be exact. Pat Franklin was our president and she, along with lots of talented volunteers put on an event that still remains the benchmark in Miata gatherings. To this day, people still speak fondly about that wonderful Round Up in Well, Pat s not president anymore, but she s back at it, agreeing to head up our club s hosting of the 2010 State Wide Round Up, held at the same location we used three years ago, the Y. O. Resort in Kerrville. Several months ago, she unveiled the plans for this years event and began soliciting volunteers. As usual, people have stepped up and agreed to pitch in and assist Pat on many levels. Yours truly is in charge of photographing the event, setting up a car wash facility at the hotel and will also host and judge the Show N Shine. Now, you might think I won t have time to make runs and you re probably right! However, we re privileged to have these fantastic hill country roads in our back yard and I can make these runs anytime. It s more important to make sure our guests enjoy their stay and the different runs. Speaking of Runs, Rohm Thompson is chairing the Run committee and has some really cool runs in store for attendees. Rohm is experienced at setting up runs and I can vouch for his leadership as witnessed on our recent visit to Colorado. The tasks that Pat and her volunteer staff have are incredible. She still needs more volunteers for various duties; ask her about how you can help! See you in Kerrville next week!

Saturday, October 30th! Lots of fun and good food, too! Buy and bring your goodies to install or get your Miata ready for the Round Up! The upcoming State Wide Round Up has bittersweet memories for me. First off, my Miata, Pokey, broke down on me literally the morning we met up at the Rolling Oaks parking lot. I had to have it towed to A Foreign Affair and that was a very sick feeling. I mean, this was my first big event! Now, my brother Mike was going also, so the weekend wasn t lost as I rode and roomed with him. After the first day, I was able to enjoy the weekend and had a great time. Observing how Pat Franklin and her crew ran the event so smoothly made me realize this isn t just any ordinary car club. I truly won t ever forget that 2006 Round Up. I also became smitten with a certain young lady that weekend and that has fond memories for me. But, we ll leave that alone. It was a crisp fall weekend those four years ago and I remember queuing up for various runs; it seemed I couldn t sign up for enough, I wanted to do it all! I remember the Funcana being especially fun that weekend. Well, this year Pokey is history and I ll be taking EZ. As of this writing, he s sputtering some and I ll need to find out what that s about before I take off for Kerrville. Have you made a Lunar Zoomer dinner yet? Each month I host a dinner under a full or nearly full moon. A different restaurant each month, I try to find a eatery with uncovered patio dining so we can see that Lunar treat! 3 NOVEMBER 2010 PAGE 3 Well, it has been an exciting year and I would like to take this time to thank the board for their support. It has been a fun ride. Next Saturday, October 30 th, is Tech Day at Jack s Paint Place for our members. This is your day to get to know your car and gain a little more understanding of how it works. Something new this year, we will also be doing the bag stuffing for Statewide Round-Up. So, even if you don t need to do anything to your car just come out and support & enjoy your club. At the November 23 rd meeting, we will hold club elections. Remember; you must be present and a current member to vote. As with any election, it is your opportunity to make your voice heard and help your club improve. I m hoping to see more members participation in running for offices; if not in this election, in the next please. There needs to be more than one person running at a time. I do hope that everyone has made their arrangements for 2010 Texas Miata Round-Up on November 5-7 th at the YO Ranch in Kerrville, TX. With camaraderie, fun events, great dining, fine accommodations and excellent Texas weather and roads, it will be an event talked about for years to come. Our Hill Country and member expertise is unsurpassed. There is still time, but how long that lasts??? Stop riding the fence & hop in your car with us. See you there. I need to address one final matter. It was brought to my attention that on the Leakey run that there was passing of other caravan members going on. I was not told who, what, when or where as that does not matter. It has always been stressed that we do not pass each other on a run unless you were waved around. This information can be found across the header of the website under GUIDELINES where there are documents for planning and participating in a run. The link on our website carefully maintained by Don Privett is cruise.html. When this does happen it needs to be addressed on the run by the run leader. Or if the run leader does not know what is going on behind them, it needs to be brought to their attention. Keep our club safe above all. Don t forget to patronize our very generous sponsors!

5 NOVEMBER 2010 PAGE 5 Six Miatas made their way to Cuero Turkeyfest Parade. George led the group from San Antonio. Those that drove the gauntlet included George, Marsha and Gene Carlow, Larry Schwartz, Marilyn and Dave Hamilton, Betty and Mike Jackson, and Marilyn McCullen. They joined Judy and Paul just south of Westhoff. We saw them coming over the ridge. Well, Ruby Begonia lost to Paycheck in a short sprint to defeat. After the initial shock of defeat, the crows regrouped their feelings and were ready to celebrate the event they came for. The parade is a short few blocks in duration but always brings cheer from the townsfolk as they celebrate heritage and sports teams, cheerleaders and community floats. Bluebonnet Miata club is a support group for the JV Cheerleaders. It was a beautiful weather day! Paul led a short drive through the Cuero countryside and down our favorite small twisties and on to the Faulkner Farm for lunch and a rest on the porch. This place has become the link to the farm series and Discovery Channel. Those attending got to gather a few eggs, feed cows, ducks, goat, and geese. And as if on cue, # 14 Angus, Anniversary born , gave live birth. This was a surprise for all! She has become our little cow that could. For her 15 minutes of fame, she is now the star in family album photos. Thanks for coming to the country and sharing our bit of fun. Judy and Paul Faulkner

Guests Cindy White is a guest of The Faulkner s Bluebonnet Miata Club Meeting Minutes September 28, 2010 Reports Treasurer s Report: Marilyn McCullen reported that our current checking account balance was $. The savings account balance is $. The club will be spending money on the roundup soon. Membership: Betty Jackson that we have 84 members. Webmaster: No new news Newsletter: George requested more stories from members. George has a new contest. The person who spots the most mistakes in the newsletter will win a prize. Old Business Club Pins are free to new members. $2 for current/old members. See Betty Jackson for more information. Club Stickers are 2 for $5.00. See Betty Jackson for more information. The Bluebonnet Miata Club Business cards are available for members to pass out. Name Badges are available from Betty Jackson upon request. They are $6.50 and due when ordering one. She needs a few more name badge orders to complete the minimum requirement. This is the last month to order name badges before the roundup. New Business 2010 Texas Miata Round Up. Participants were encouraged to reserve rooms at the Y.O. Ranch for $89 a night + tax. Don Privett has the Round Up website up and running. Participants can register online. Early Registration ends on Oct. 6th. Prices will raise $10 on Oct. 7 th. Volunteers are needed to be the sweep for runs and to lead runs. The runs will be mapped out ahead of time. The volunteer just needs to lead the run and be a sweep. Volunteers are needed for decorations, and to take tickets at meal times. Over 48 cars and 90 people have registered. The schedule is being set for runs. North Park Mazda is donating the t-shirts. Nominating Committee Pat Franklin, Ed Wells, and Dave Hamilton have volunteered to be on the nominating committee for new officers. Elections will happen in two months. Anyone interested in serving on the board needs to contact someone on the nominating committee. Let Jeff Holbrook know what projects you want to do at Tech day. Lots of windy roads on our way to the now-famous Austin Catfish Parlour. Great food! Sunday, November 21st, Lunar Zoomers Dinner at a yet to be determined restaurant. There may even be a run before this run! But, whatever, dinner will be under the stars and a nearly full moon. Don t miss it!
