It is with a heavy heart that we are bidding farewell to our friend James Crouch. He passed away Monday, January 15th at the age of 90. He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Lillian Crouch and children, Michelle Crouch Amdall, Kevin Crouch, Michael Crouch and the oldest, although now deceased, Frederick Crouch James Crouch served 30 years in the Army before retiring as a CW4 (chief warrant officer),and then followed that up with 32 years as a civilian employee at Fort Bliss before retiring in 2010 as the highest ranking African-American civilian employee in the history of Fort Bliss as a GM-14. Inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006 in the Referee Category. He played center field for the legendary Dautrich Realtors teams in the early 1960s. The Texas Association of Sports Officials also has honored him several times over the years for being an outstanding sports clinician. He has served as president of both the local basketball and volleyball associations. His mentorship of many young officials is also well-documented. Crouch refereed more than 14,000 games in his distinguished career, including high school volleyball, girls and boys basketball, Fort Bliss and El Paso Parks and Recreation Department city leagues. He was also inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame as a referee in 2006, and into the El Paso Softball Hall of Fame as a player in "He loves children, he loves sports, he loved officiating," Lillian Crouch said. "He always felt you need to know the rules to be an official. He was a mentor to other officials. He was generous, whether helping people financially or just lifting them up when they were down. "He was just a special person who loved helping others." As an Optimist, Jim served as a Distinguished President of Cielo Vista Optimist club and Lt Governor in the New Mexico West Texas District. Funeral services for Jim will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday January 26th at Fort Bliss' Center Chapel 1.

2 PAGE 2 This Week s Meeting January 11 Ceci Medina joined CVOC January 24 Hampton and Toni Hurt Anniversary January 15 Holiday January 18 Winnie the Pooh Day Bill Coon came to thank the club for volunteering at the Sun Bowl this year. The Sun Bowl relies on some 600 to 800 volunteers to make it a successful year. Although the Sun Bowl game is the most publicized event, there are many others throughout the year. The Sun Bowl is responsible for the city s largest event, our parade. They bring world-class talent to El Paso through our golf tournament, basketball tournament and of course the football game. They recognize our local talent through Punt, Pass and Kick, the soccer tournament, our Sun Court, cheerleading clinics and basketball clinics. What a great organization to be part of. Members at the meeting were President Wende Anderson, Robbie and Wendell Clark, Greg and Pat Siewert, Jim Angelos, and David Abernathy. Pollyanna Pig was was well fed tonight as Greg won the door prize and made sure it was given to Polly. Greg was happy that he and Pat are going to Laughlin, Nv on an all expense paid trip. Wende has happy that here sister and brother-in-law were there tonight and Robbie was glad Wende was home safely from her trip to the cold north lands. Pat was happy that her granddaughter was celebrating her 9th birthday.
