1 Dear Lt. Governor-designates: Congratulations on your election as Lt. Governor for your division! I hope that you are looking forward to one of the best Kiwanis experiences that you will ever have! Enclosed please find a registration form for the 2006 Lt. Governor Training Conference which will be held at the fantastic Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp from Thursday, June1st to Sunday, June 4th. Please return this to us right away so that we can plan for your attendance. Please note that you will need to arrange your transportation in order to arrive at the camp late Thursday afternoon in order to join us for the meal and get-acquainted function that is planned for that evening. Some of you may wish to come in Wednesday afternoon or evening in order to participate in the first ever (voluntary) Lt. Governor s Kiwanis Camp Service Project. See the enclosed flyer for details! The Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp is located approximately an hour and one-half from Portland in a lovely forest setting on the slopes of Mt. Hood. A map and directions are enclosed. If you are flying in, please let us know your flight information and we will endeavor to arrange transportation for you. We would appreciate it if some of the incoming Lt. Governors from the Portland-Vancouver area can help us out with this. Besides the fantastic setting, the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp also offers us the opportunity to substantially lower your out-of-pocket expense for the weekend! Registration for the weekend is $ USD - a figure that includes ALL of your housing costs and meals! This includes a Prime Rib and Salmon buffet Saturday night at Oregon s famous Timberline Lodge. As she has already communicated to you, Governor-elect Lori Bryant is also inviting your spouses/partners to attend this year. Please be aware that the housing at camp is dormitory style and is segregated by gender. For Lt. Governors, your housing expense at the camp is covered by your registration fee as it has already been included in our camp rental fees. Please note that there are two different Partner Registration Fees depending on whether your partner stays at the camp or elsewhere. VERY IMPORTANT Enclosed in this package is a list of things that you will need to bring with you to the camp like bedding! Please refer to it when you are packing! Governor-elect Lori Bryant and Training and Education Chair Mike Duffy are planning a weekend of training, that while intense, will still leave plenty of free time in which you can relax, enjoy the mountain and prepare yourself for the coming year. We hope that you will use this time to also get to really know your district officers and the other members of your class of Lt. Governors!
2 We should have already received several items of paperwork from you. Please see the enclosed flyer for a listing of those items and a chart showing what, if anything, we are still missing. If you have already sent these items in, there is no need to do so again. Come prepared for a fantastic weekend of Kiwanis fun, fellowship and work! I hope that you are looking forward to the weekend as much as we are. Please call us at the District Office if you have any questions that we haven t answered in these materials. See you on the mountain! Sincerely, Cleve E. Parker District Secretary & Treasurer Enclosures
3 LT. GOVERNOR TRAINING IT S NOT JUST ABOUT THE CLASSROOM ANYMORE! Past participants at the Lt. Governor Training Session held at the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp have often remarked that they wished that they had been given more time - both to enjoy the camp AND to participate in a Kiwanis Service Project while there. Well... Now you can! By special arrangement with the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp, we are inviting all members of the Class of Lt. Governors to arrive a day early - in order to meet each other and work together to perform Kiwanis service for the Camp! This is a voluntary program and we will all understand if your schedule does not allow you to come in a day early. For those who can, we recommend that you arrive at camp during the late afternoon or early evening on Wednesday, May 31st. Free lodging will be provided that night - although dinner will be on your own. There are several good restaurants close by in Government Camp and Rhododendron. For those that are in by 6:00PM, we can all go together - as a group! If you wish to participate and live close enough to drive in on Thursday morning (June 1st), please plan on being in camp by 8:00AM. We will provide Breakfast (8:00AM) and Lunch for those participating in the Camp Service Project on Thursday, June 1st. There will be a variety of things that need to be done for us to do. Local Kiwanians will be holding a work party at the Camp on the weekend preceding - so is likely that we will be finishing up some things already started. Many of the projects will likely be out of doors - so bring warm work clothing and work gloves. There will also be some projects indoors for those that cannot work outside. WE DO NEED TO KNOW WHO WILL BE COMING... Please indicate and r eturn to District office by Monday - May 29, Name Division Partner attending Yes No Date of Arrival (circle) Wednesday, May 31 Thursday, June 1 Thursday meals (check) Breakfast Lunch
