2 Two Blue Scoreboard round 6 is brought to you by Crane Cup heads north The Neville Crane Challenge Cup has gone to Bell Post Hill for the first time after the First and Thirds were comprehensively beaten on the weekend. FIRSTS lost to Bell Post Hill on Stinton Oval RESULT lost by 14 runs Umpires C. Kent & A. Jones A fine unbeaten century by wicketkeeper batsman Richie Hassett got Bell Post Hill s season back on track at Queens Park where he guided them to a win over Newtown and Chilwell. Courtesy of fine innings by the prolific John Rees, quality veteran Rod Kiddle and Jason Bottomley the Blues could be satisfied with their batting total of But their bowlers were again unable to contain the opposition. Hassett, carrying a rib injury, Tim Sells and Darren Kiddle punished the new-ball. Then the other Panther batsmen supported Hassett evenly down the line and they were able to reach their target with plenty of overs to spare. Newtown & Chilwell 9/185 John Rees c O Keefe b B. SIXTHS BLACK ANT REPORT Mt Duneed pony club, Highton 6ths home ground, saw three more Newtown juniors make their senior debut. Under 17er Jacob Simonsen under 15s Jeff Smith and Dean Turnley. Plenty of sheep and flies but not a pony in sight, it wasn't long before hapless Highton were in trouble as Andrew Bishop had both openers caught brilliantly by Sam Connelly & Dean Turnley. Sam then knocked the stumps over of the next pair before Bish senior picked up his 3rd for just 7. Left armer Jacob Simonsen claimed his first senior scalp as Jeff Smith held a sharp catch. Dean Turnley was officially on the team sheet after many appearances as 12th man, bowled his leg spin beautifully claiming his 1st wicket on debut with a catch held by his dad. Fellow 13 year old Campbell Bishop also bowled 6 good overs picking up a wicket as well. Campbell also took a great diving catch to help clean up the tail. Highton all out 71. Jeff Smith & Jack Clonan set after the small total picking up runs at will. Jeff compiled a well made 37 on debut. Jarrod Andrews was at his brilliant best seeing the score beyond the target knocking up a quick 51 not out. With 15 overs left the Highton lads had had enough and resumed to the rooms for some refreshments. The unavailability of senior players giving juniors an opportunity they may not have normally had. With 8 juniors (7 under 15s) and 3 Dads we picked up our 4th win on the trot. Whatever the reason that so many senior players made themselves unavailable there were plenty of young cricketers ever so happy to take the field in their place. Well done Jorden Lewis and Lachlan Dowling, under 15s playing in the 5ths as well. Old faces front up to help out Great to see a couple of oldies return to the field, in our recent hour of need, enabling us to field reasonable sides last weekend. Junior coaches Les Sanderson (under 17s) and Life Member Graeme Chisholm (under 13s) returned to the N&CCC fold. While for Chis it hasn t been that long that he had a game for the N&CCC, it certainly has for Les. Les was an opening bowler for the Seconds and Thirds way back (no offence) in the late seventies. It was great to see him have a senior game with Tim in last week s 4ths. No doubt we will see more of the Big Chis, especially when the twins Tom and George make their senior debuts. And judging by the runs and wickets they are accumulating, including a recent hat trick by Tom, the day won t be far away. News of two former N&CCC players will interest quite a few. After 32 years at Deakin Uni former Club President and star allrounder, Brian Edwards, has decided to retire and finally work on that golf handicap. A First XI career 3800 runs at 27 batting anywhere from number one to 11, 351 wickets at 15 with first quality swing bowling and four premierships made the former school teacher cum Uni professor one of the club s all time greats. BJ was also a great contributor and early proponent of the TBT and named in the club s team of the century back in At the other end of the scale is Tim Anderson who is building quite an impressive career in cricket as the ICC Development officer for the Asia Pacific area. Tim is well known for his early cricket exploits at N&CCC and Geelong CC is based in Dubai where he recently filled in for a corporate team in the Ramadan 20/20 comp. With very little recent form on the board, Tim smashed a century in the match, not only contributing to a win for his Emirate Airlines team but winning the MOM award. Disability Golf Day. We would like to acknowledge our representatives for Barwon Disability Cricket League Golf Day on December 9 th. Tim Anderson picking up the man of the tournament trophy. Proceeds from the corporate golf day will go to assisting the funding of the League. We still need three volunteers as to help out on the day with hospitality and result tabulation. If you can assist please contact Mark Giles on Teams for Disability Golf Day on December 9th at East Geelong. 1-A Green, L Sharry, S Pearce, S Mullen 2- G Clark, G Chisholm, G Wells, S Day
