1 Newtown & Chilwell Cricket Club Celebrating 103 years TWO BLUE TRIBUNE The official organ of the Newtown and Chilwell Cricket Club since January 29, 2014 Vol. 41 No THE "F" WORD It's time to invoke the "F" word. No not that. And not Finals either, we're not getting ahead of ourselves. That can ruin a team, and a club. No "F" is for February, functions, fun, frivolity, friendship and any other words that "F"its all the things that go to make a happy, successful club at this time of year. "F" is also for flashback, a quick recap of last round. "F" is also for Firsts, who went down to Murgie at home. Jack Wood made 80 and "F" for Fossie 32 as an opener. They didn't get the support they needed though to chase down an imposing total from day one. Our neighbours were up for the game. The Seconds was close, but no cigar. The fact Yves' boys remain in second spot is confirmation this is a quality side that had an off day. The three have shown they are willing to learn from their off days, a solid win over Murgie. The fact that the contributions came from the many, rather than the few, says a lot about the culture that Brendan has created in this side. The Fourth, well that grand old man of Newtown cricket, Stevie Lewis, helped set up a first innings win on day one. Steve is one of the great stalwarts of our club a three time premiership player and apparently the oldest player to score a century let along back to backs in more than a century of our history, In the past 12 months or so he has shown a hunger for big scores that would be impressive in someone a third of his age. And if you're reading this Jordie, we might mean you, but it could apply to anyone you want it to. Anyway, an outright slipped through the Fourths hands literally, but they remain a side to be reckoned with. Another Twadds, the old fella, has got the Fifths flying, two wins from two games to keep them on top of the ladder. The Sixths also had solid wins, but like the boy with the barrow, they've got the challenge in front of them over the next few weeks. The next few weeks also bring Greg Hansen's Trivia Night, a real highlight of the year, thanks Hanso, and also the moment when we give Chisa and microphone and hope the outside speakers are not on. G.L. Chisholm thinks PC stands for Police Constable, but if you leave your sensitivities in your back pocket and take the $100 out, there's a lot of fun to be had at Major Raffle day. Ben Neville st XI matches This round champion batsman Ben Neville becomes the 21 st player to play 100 1sts XI matches with the Club. The dual premiership star (cap number 405) has totalled 2845 runs at which ranks him as the 10 th best batting average of all time in the First XI (minimal qualification 15 innings) Congratulations Benny and may there be many more milestones in a great career with the Two Blues. See page two for Benny s outstanding N&CCC record
