2 Chairman s Message September was a busy month around the club. The rectification of the DOSA has been completed with the exception of the installation of the misting system designed to address the upcoming summer. The office has been extended. This resulted in the entrances to the locker rooms and toilets being redesigned. Chippy, Thorpey, Griffo and Blayne (the Deck Team), have been undertaking this work. So as not to interfere with the club s bowling activities mainly, this work has taken a little longer than normal but hopefully inconvenience has been kept to a minimum. The work should be completed in the first week of October. I should point out that this work is in line with the proposed future improvements to the club. Gary Cahill has done a great job modifying the reception area to cater for its multipurpose use of being the games desk as well. A new window has been ordered for this area that will provide for paying green fees from outside. This will hopefully relieve the bottleneck at the entrance to the club on playing days. Infrastructure Plan The Board has been devoting a lot of time into the Infrastructure Plan. We now have a revised design and costings. These are being fine-tuned for presentation to the AGM. It is hoped that the new plans will be available for display/distribution prior to the meeting. The Board has met with the inhouse consultancy group of John, Geoff and Vaughan and I am pleased to report that everybody is now on the same page and it is hoped that the plan and strategy to be presented at the AGM will have broad support from the membership. Constitution Changes The Club Constitution changes, passed at the Special General Meeting in July, have been registered by the office of Fair Trading without problem. Members are reminded that they may nominate another person as a proxy to vote at the AGM on any motions that may be presented. New Television A new large screen television has been purchased for the main bar area. The club has recently acquired the SCDMBA Winter Carnival electronic match scoring application, courtesy of Barry Sullivan. Barry has also generously provided training to members of the Men s Division. It is proposed to use the new television to display the scoring for future major bowls events, including the upcoming Invitation Pairs in December. This will replace the old manual scoreboard that needed to be replaced. This will also overcome the problems with displaying on the projector screen that has been used in the past. The club has also bought a digital honour board program. This will also be displayed on the new TV. This gives us the ability to instantly update championship winners, have all our honour boards in one place and provide a substitute for the existing honour boards which are quickly running out of space, particularly the men s board. It is planned to get information from boards in the ladies locker room or in storage, for open display on the screen. Bear with us, this may take time. I wish to thank Jason Thomas for installing the TV. It went straight from the back of my car on to the wall. More next month. Greg Brown Chairman

6 Ladies President Hi Bowlers. Spring is here along with some rather hot weather. Our visitors have returned home and our numbers are back to normal. Pennants are now over. Divisions 2 & 6 made it through to the finals, which were played at Kawana. Unfortunately, both teams were beaten in the finals with the scores being close. Congratulations to both teams on reaching the finals and let s go one further next year. In relation to Club administration matters, some positions for the ladies committee are not filled for the coming year, so please give that some thought. It is pleasing to see some new faces accepting positions. Judy Wilson is not taking a position next year. She has done a wonderful job this year, stepping up to cover games director, as well as selector and games room selector. Thank you Judy for a job well done. Congratulations to the team of Kay Darling, Liz Lennon and Lyn Joy who competed in the recent District Over 60 s Competition. They came second overall by only 2 shots to the winners. Judy Wilson also won the 1st round and Louise Witton just missed out on a placing. This was all done against tough and experienced opposition. President s Day was held last Thursday. We had 40 bowlers and 8 non bowlers present. We played a short game of bowls (although it was somewhat hot ) and came in for a lovely afternoon tea at 3pm. The ladies provided lots of great plates of eats. Thank you ladies. I received a lovely orchid from the Club, which I will cherish. I would like everyone to spare a thought for Marilyn Clayton who is not well and is making a very slow recovery. Our best wishes to Marilyn and her family. Don t forget the A.G.M. on the 8th of October. See you on the green. President Dawn Kerry Walsh Madills Men s President The beginning of spring and the end of pennants. We have had a good year of placings with Divisions 3,4,5, and 7 all playing off in semi s or finals. DIVISION 3 came home with the flag & Divison 5 were runners up, so well done to the players and selectors Divison 3 will play off in the SE QLD Div 3 & 4 play offs at Coolum on the 11th & 12th of November. We had late notice of night pennants so we will have one team in. It started on the week of the 25th of September. SUPER CHALLENGE is not running in However we have had a request to submit entries into Premier 7 by the 8th of October. Sheets are in the games room for mixed men s and ladies from Div 1 to 6 including a 60 plus Division 1 team. No doubt the 8 s will be running, however there will be no mixed teams, only male or female. The nominations for the men s bowls division have closed and will require some discussions at the AGM. The draw is up for the club 4 s so check the dates and play on or before! Good bowling Keith Wilson Men s President Bowler of the Month Blayne Shorter Blayne was given the opportunity to skip a side in Division 5. He is a new bowler with limited match experience and less as a skip. However, Blayne rose to the challenge & was significant in putting DIV 5 on top of the ladder by not losing a game through the season. President Keith Alex Murphy Madills
