1 Men s Section Congratulations Paul West and Shawn Davidson, 3 rd Division Skips and their magnificent team mates on winning the Flag for Nick Casey, Ian Essen, Mick Gloynes, Nevill Hanna, Damien Leenen, James and Lewis Schiulaz played well all season and are deserved winners. The SEQ Pennant Championships will be played on the weekend of November 19 and 20. The venue is yet to be decided but make a note in your diary now, keep an eye on the notice board and show your support when the time comes. Our 5ths were a little underdone this year, a couple of disappointing results but none that didn t show promise. I think a couple of teams we played would be very competitive in a couple of divisions higher. We ve got a couple of rounds to go and feel confident of a good finish. Our Ladies are playing excellent bowls and a good chance to finish on top, our best wishes for the remainder of the season. Our thanks to the Club for the sausage sizzle after the Bi Annual General Meeting, members will be advised in due course of a modest increase in fees, still well under most, green fees stay the same as a minimum fee. No increase for Juniors or Social Membership. Great to see our Chef Joey join in for a game of bowls after the meeting (definitely showed some talent) again thanks to the Club for putting on a most enjoyable afternoon. In 2012 we will celebrate our Clubs 60 th Birthday and I know our Social Committee is working hard at Ideas during the year to make sure we all enjoy the party. There will be regular reports on up-coming activities and I m sure a request or two for some help. If you can spare a little time, an hour here and there can go a long way. On behalf of those playing pool on a Thursday Night I would like to thank Graham Jewell for taking the time to get the competition up and running. Thanks also to Shane Hipwell and Tim Powell for their help, it s a great night and the entertainment isn t half bad either. Cheers Bob. Ladies Section How time flies, it only seems yesterday that I was thinking of what to say for July! Anyway, we certainly have had a very busy month with ladies playing pennants twice a week and the usual away games visiting Deception Bay, Sandgate and Samford. The Woodford component of the pennants team this year comprises, Ros Graham, Marg Dahl, Pam Taylor, Maxine Parrington, Peteena Holder and Pam Harman, not forgetting our Team Manager, Terre Jewell, entering all our good and bad bowls in that little book of hers! To date the Woodford/Kilcoy pennants team has had wins against Solander Lake, Narangba and Donnybrook but we have suffered losses against Bribie Island Blue and Bongaree. We have one further round to play this week and that is against Bribie Island Gold and we have a bye the week after. At the end of round 8 we held a slender lead on the points table but our loss to Bongaree may have changed this. However, I am sure that I speak on behalf of everyone when I say, well done ladies. Upcoming events include, a Family & Friendship Day to be held on 24 th September, Presidents at Home on 8 th October, Woodford Ladies 4s on 13 th October and Wander into Woodford on 10 th November, which is to be a Pink Day with raffle monies being donated to cancer support. 4 Our 60 th Birthday 2012 A public meeting was held in the Memorial Hall on the 29 th of August, 1950 with the object of forming a Bowling Club in Woodford. The first General Meeting was held on the 24 th 0f October, 1950 and the first Committee elected. On the 28 th of June, 1951 a meeting was called with the intention of forming a Woodford & District Ladies Bowling Club. The Ladies Club was officially opened in 1952 by Mrs. Ducat, the reigning President of the C.L.B.A. The entrance fee was One Pound One Shilling and at first play commenced using two rinks on the 29 th of November, In 1966 a proposal was put forward to build a new Clubhouse and many functions were held to raise funds, including, The First Bowlers Ball. The original Clubhouse was on the opposite side of the Green to where the present Clubhouse now stands. The present Clubhouse was opened in 1975 and the lighting of the green for night bowls was officially opened on the 1 st of December, In 2012 we will celebrate our 60 th Birthday, throughout the year we will be partying back to the 50 s Ladies, hope you ve kept your frocks. The main highlight of the year will be a Ball The First Bowlers Ball To be held toward the end of next year. Without any measuring implements and without removing any wine from the barrel, how can they easily determine who is correct? Q2. Four members of a band are walking to a night concert. They decide to take a shortcut, but must cross a bridge. Luckily they have one flashlight. Because of the varying size of their instruments, it takes each member a different amount of time to cross the bridge - it takes the first person one minute, the second person two minutes, the third person five minutes and the fourth person ten minutes. They must cross the bridge in pairs, traveling at the slower speed so if the one minute person went with the ten minute person, it would take a total of ten minutes. Since there is only one flashlight, one person must come back across the bridge, then another pair can cross. They only have 17 minutes to cross the bridge and still get to the concert on time. What order should they cross to get everyone across and get to the concert?
