Club website: Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc Sports Results for 23rd November, 2009 Maleny U16 Redback cricket Great finish to a great game runs) and Adam Brown (36 runs) came to the crease and put on a well fought 110 run partnership to have Maleny at 4 wkts for 210 and in a strong position to score 300 runs plus. Unfortunately, this wasn t to be, as Landsborough regrouped and had Maleny all out for 251. Maleny had only 30 minutes to bowl before the end of the first day s play and after 10 overs, Landsborough were 2 for 33, with Ben Wilkinson and Nick Selman gettiing a wicket each to close play for the day. Day 2 and it was going to be a hot day in the field for Maleny; the wickets slowly started to fall but with Landsborough also hitting quick runs, it wasn t all plain sailing for the home team. Eventually Landsborough were all out for 143 runs, with Nick taking 3 wickets, Dylan Davies 2 wkts and Moacyr Lima bowling at his best, also taking 2 wkts. 1st inning points to Maleny. Maleny enforced the follow on, went back in the field but Landsborough werent going to lie down and after 12 overs were 2 wkts for 54 runs. Then everything seemed to go Maleny s way, the wickets starting tumbling and Landsborough were all out for 132 runs, a much improved performance in the field by all the Maleny players, which saw some great catches and even a run out, well done. The game still wasn t over and Maleny needed 27 runs in 5 overs to win outright. Easy? Not so, as Landsborough weren t about to give up and were on fire to have Maleny at 5 wkts for 13 runs. At this point the game could have gone either way. Moacyr joined Harrison Canton at the crease with 14 runs to win and 8 balls remaining. Moacyr with the 1st ball faced hit 4 runs and with one over left, Maleny needed 10 runs to win and Landsborough 5 wkts to win outright. Who said Cricket is boring? Harrison hit a four, then a single, leaving Moacyr on strike, who let loose and hit his second four. With 2 balls left and one run to win, Moacyr hit the ball and both batsman scampered through for Continued on Back Page! For more information visit our web site:

4 Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc The Hotel Maleny Redbacks 3rd Division team lost on first innings to the top of table Yandina Gingers on Saturday. Starting the second day at 7 for 295 the Gingers decided to add a rapid 47 runs to last week s total before declaring their innings at 7 for 342. The Redbacks were keen to chase down the massive total and openers Alister Baker and Ryan Cosgrove lead from the front punishing some wayward bowling. After making a start Cosgrove (17) was out cutting once too often, when Baker (10) followed in the next over the Redbacks were in trouble at 2 for 27. The powerhouse Mick Oliver then combined with stroke player Krishna Alister in a 73 run third wicket partnership to turn the game in the Redbacks favour. After a slow start Oliver took to the boundary smashing six fours in a row, while Alister played numerous classic cricket shots. Redbacks fail in run chase Maleny Redbacks third Division v s Yandina Gingers Photo: Mick Oliver playing shot on his way to 36 The Maleny Sport and Recreation Club is lucky to have as Patron, Mr. Kevin Bartlett. Big Kev as he is lovingly known is a true icon of Australian motor sport. His connection with motor sport proper started in the late 1950 s and continued well into the late 1980 s. During his career he was one of Australia s most versatile and successful race drivers. Bartlett is well known for racing At 2 for 100 the Redbacks were in the hunt, but when Alister fell for 31 and Oliver was out four runs later for 36, the Redbacks were in dire need of a middle order revival. Two more quick wickets fell before captain Greg Corkin and youngster Dan Hand came together to get the runs ticking. On a hot day, both players weren t too keen on running, scoring the majority of their runs via the boundary rope. Hand was eventually out for a commanding 27. Corkin continued building his total before he advanced down the wicket to a spinner only to miss and be stumped for 59 runs. The Redbacks were all out for 223 runs handing the Gingers first innings points. With only 11 over left in the match Yandina was keen for even more batting practice, but the Redback bowlers had other ideas having Yandina 6 for 49 at stumps. Sam Martin (2), Ben Edwards and Alister Baker took wickets, while Ryan Cosgrove and Sam Martin each claimed a run out. The Redbacks next game is a one day match against Coolum at the Maleny Showgrounds on Saturday. A bit about our Patron, Kevin Bartlett in Australia and New Zealand, but he also raced on tracks in Fuji and Japan. He was born in Coffs Harbour in He won Australia s premier open title the CAMS Gold Star in 1968 and 1969, as well as the Bathurst 1000 alongside John Goss in Whilst he is a top driver he will always be remembered for a rollover in the Packer/ Channel Nine Chevrolet Camaro at Bathurst in This did not deter him as he went on to win at Bathurst in Apart from being Patron for our club he is still heavily involved in all forms of motor sport from the position of consultant and mentor to younger drivers. Thanks Kev for being part of our club.
