Club website: On a very gusty day at Witta, Maleny won 40 to 31 games. Rita, Jan, Claire and Jill playing for the Witta Hitters. Annie being an excellent fill-in for Maleny. A good day all round. Witta Wasps had a much needed win this week. Playing in windy conditions at Maleny against the Lorikeets. Final score - Witta 40 games, 5 sets - Maleny 34 games, 3 sets. Wasps players were Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc Nominations are open for the 2011 Glasshouse Volunteers award Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, is pleased to announce nominations have opened for the second annual Glass House Volunteer Award ceremony. The ceremony will be held to coincide with National Volunteer Week, this year being celebrated from 9 to 15 May with a theme of Inspiring the Volunteer in You. The purpose of National Volunteer Week is to say thanks to the many tireless volunteers that we have within our community. The work performed by volunteers can sometimes be taken for granted or overlooked which is why this week of celebration and appreciation of their hard work is so important, Mr Powell said. Mr Powell structures the Glass House Volunteer Awards so rather than have one overall winner the opportunity is given to acknowledge the efforts of many volunteers throughout our community. Witta Tennis News Michelle, Stacey, Janet and Maree. All Thursday night and Friday matches were rained out. The Witta Wikings had a fantastic win as Cooroy couldn t field a team and had to forfeit. The Witta Wagtails traveled to Gympie to play Hervey Bay. We played a lot of tennis to little avail, Hervey Bay winners 66 games to 33 games. Simon Biggs, Sean This year I am pleased to say we have written to over 200 community groups and associations. Nominations close on Friday 29 April and I encourage anyone wishing to make a nomination to contact my office. The is Glass.House@parliament.qld.gov. au We ll also be putting the kettle on after the award ceremony so that the volunteers can have the chance to enjoy a cuppa and chat to some of their fellow dedicated volunteers. Judging by the amount of community groups we have invited to submit a nomination, I am confident that we will have in excess of 150 people attending this event, Mr Powell concluded. This event is invitation only and will be held from 10am Friday 13 May at the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club on Steve Irwin Way Glasshouse Mountains. Lepper, Bob Eather, Wayne Gray, Aki Lepper and Liz Mellish could only celebrate Wayne Gray winning the raffle (again)! Social tennis: Monday 8am; Tuesday 7pm; Thursday 8:30am; Saturday 1pm all welcome. For court hire and enquiries contact Denis

Maleny Bowls Club Results The 2011 Men s Open Fours Championship Winners were the Bas Crain skipped team of John Kapetanic, Peter Duffy, Roy Geschh and Bas who defeated Les Bennett s team of Ben Hooper, Bob Caulley, Ray Oldfield and Les by 18 shots to 14 in a closely fought match. Congratulations John, Peter, Roy and Bas and commiserations to Ben, Bob, Ray and Les. Tuesday s winners after only six ends in the first game were Ray Oldfield and Tom Jollow with plus 11. Unfortunately, not enough ends wre played to constitute a game so the prizes couldn t be awarded. The Touchers went to Dulcie Sperling, Curley Petersen and Doug Frawley. The Jackpot of $200 wasn t won when negative five was drawn. Tom Jollow was the luckey Money-board winner. Just a reminder that the Jackpot is capped at $200 on a Tuesday and the excess goes into the carry-over to kick off the next Jackpot. No play was possible Friday beccause of the weather but even so the BBQ was still quite well patronised and enjoyed by all present. Many thanks to all who helped in any way and to Ray Oldfield for conducting the Horse Racing Game. I did hear that the Chairman is a pretty astute judge of horses of the wooden variety. Not a single Sponsors Prize winner ws present to claim their prize. Those to miss out were: Ann Marsden for Supa IGA now worth $40 this week, Fay Carson for Beechwood Bakehouse, Kerry Larkin for Maleny Grove now worth $80 this week, Bas Crain for Top of the Range Meats and Curley Petersen for Muang Thai Restaurant. This week there is the usual Jackpot Pairs/Triples Tuesday morning followed by Maleny s final match in the Live Life Villages sponsored Three-way Competition. This is against Glasshouse and a win would ensure Maleny a spot in the Final which will be played on Saturday, May 7th. Friday there will be Social/Barefoot Bowls at 2.00 for m. start and Saturday is the official opening of the new Artificial Green at 8.30 for morning tea and the opening at 9.00a.m. This will be followed by two games of Bowls split by lunch. Finally, a reminder that from Friday onwards the Sponsors Prize Draws will be moved forward to 5.30p.m. and continue to be at this time through winter. Maleny Golf Driving Range Golf Club Members and the public can now access the new driving range facility at the following times: Daily between 8.30am and 5.30pm. (The office is attended ontues, Thurs, Sat, Sun 10am-3pm, and Fri pm)
4 Maleny Tennis News It was an even handed outcome in the Maleny versus Witta week in the Ladies Midweek competition. Maleny Magics played an Away game against the Witta Hitters. The Witta Club is now the proud owners of a third court being a second hard court. The matches for this contest were held on the two hard courts. Gayle O Conor reported that after the first four games the scores were level at 19 all, however by the end of the eighth game it was a win for Maleny 40 games to 31. Many thanks to Annie Stewart from Witta who helped to make this match possible by stepping in as a reserve at the eleventh hour. Sylvia Harker s Lorikeets were again stung by the Witta Wasps going down by 40 games to 34. In the Friday competition Barbara Williams reported that the Maleny Moovers maintained their unbeaten run by being washed out against the Kawana Wanderers. Soccer Don t forget the football training camp for players from U12 to U16 to be hosted at Maleny Rangers Football Club. The camp is being run by Rui Spinola from the Australian Technical Football Academy (ATFA) from April, from 3hrs each day, (9am until 12 noon). Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc The Range Croquet Club in Maleny went ahead with its charity try-out day on Saturday, despite appalling weather. The turn-out was very disappointing, but a couple of brave souls from the Bowls Club turned out to help, as did the Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell, and most of our club members, of course. Our good friends at Live Life Villages lent a marquee, and made a substantial donation. The raffle was won by Priscilla Vickers. While the names of Vince and Val Carbery, Kath Smith and Priscilla don t appear in the scores this week, they all put in a long day on Saturday trying to raise money for Maleny SES. Vince was back at the Showgrounds on Sunday, as an official at the Maleny and District Poultry Club s annual show. Our Golf Croquet Pennant games begin this week. Not many club games have been played recently: in singles, Nick Cram beat Neil Lovett in a short, half-court game In doubles, John McCarthy and Nick beat Roz Pagliarino and Ken Barker For information, ring Vince Carbery ( ) or Priscilla Vickers ( ). Photo Right: Range Croquet Club Maleny Results Mr Croquet, Vince Carbery giving local MP (and patron the the Croquet Club) Andrew Powell some pointers. One well known local man named Tom was overheard calling his son, Harry by phone: Harry I have news to tell you, I know it s going to upset you but I have made up my mind and their is nothing you can do about it. I have decided to divorce your mother. But dad how can that be the son asked, you have been married for 40 years, and you always seemed to get along? What happened suddenly? Son, I have made up my mind, and I don t want you to try to convince me out of it. said Tom. OK the son responded but promise me you won t do anything until I come and talk to you in person, and I am going to ask all of the siblings to fly in also.
