1 In May 2011 Richard Ridge was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. In December 2011, with the help of several friends, Kay and Richard put together the first No Brainer Ball with the intention of raising funds for Brain Cancer Research. The theme was a A Surgical Affair and attended by 245 guests; over $20,000 was raised and donated to the Qld Institute of Medical Research/RBWH Foundation for brain tumour research. There is no cure for this terrible disease, nor is there currently any funding towards finding a cure. No progress has been made in discovering what causes or cures brain tumours in over 50 years. Some of the funds raised came from M.A.C.C.A and other Maleny charity groups, as well as Maleny/ Montville businesses and we deeply thank them for their continued support. No Brainer Inc. was then established, with the sole purpose of raising funds for Brain Tumour Research. We are delighted at the support we have received, including a 20 strong committee, who are outstanding in their positive outlook towards this It s a No Brainer! important event. We were delighted to be supported by Finbars Maleny and M.A.C.C.A at their St Patricks Day event, and their superb effort resulted in a donation towards our cause for $2,000. This December, we have 2 major events booked. Friday 14th December: - Drive-in Movie, showcasing Grease! Saturday 15th December: morning - Show n Shine, evening - The Rockabilly Ball! 7 Redback batsman Ben Edwards again led the Maleny Redbacks to victory over Yandina Green. Batting first on a testing pitch Edwards dug deep to guide Maleny s batting line up to a defendable 181. Edwards was the sixth wicket to fall scoring an elegant 85 runs. Ben Wilkinson was the next best of the Maleny batsman scoring a quick fire 34. The Redbacks entered the field chasing wickets and for the second Nominate MDSRC as your Community Benefit Club and Help Raise Funds Did you know that Maleny IGA s Community Benefit Club scheme sees 1c from every dollar you spend generously donated back into community groups? Rob and Sam Outridge! Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc Edwards in the Runs Again week in a row Todd English provided them. Using the pitch and a gentle breeze, English produced an outstanding spell of inswing bowling. English had the Yandina batsmen in all sorts on his way to claiming 5 for 28 off 8 overs. Wilkinson was again the key supporting act grabbing 3 for 28 off 9 overs. In the end the Redbacks had Yandina all out for 147, claiming a first innings victory. Backing up on Sunday, the Maleny team had a few weary bodies. Edwards again headed Maleny s batting line up. On a much friendly pitch the Redbacks found scoring a lot easier, Edwards was again Maleny s best scoring 67. Luke Wilkinson (33no) and Jake Heading (28) helped to build Maleny s total to 202 runs. At tea Maleny decided to declare their innings and chase outright victory. At the end of the day the Redbacks fell just short of outright having Yandina 7 down when stumps were drawn. Greg Corkin claimed 4 wickets, while Steve Kronk was impressive claiming 2 for 9 off 8 overs. The Finbars Lounge Bar Man of the Match this week goes to Ben Edwards. Under 10s The Redback Under 10s travelled to Nambour on Friday to take on Palmwoods. Bowling first Maleny were impressive in the field stopping numerous boundaries on a very small field. Jonty Corkin (2 for 14 off 3overs), Will Lapsley (2 for 10 off 2 overs), Cameron Kronk (1 for 4 off 3 overs) and Jack English (1 for 4 off 2 overs) were the pick of the Maleny bowlers. In the end Palmwoods scored 71 off their 20 overs. Batting saw the Redbacks keen to chase down Palmwoods total; however the loss wickets made the task harder. Jonty Corkin (20), Will Lapsley (14) and Tallis Corkin (12) were Maleny s key run scorers, but it was great to see the improvements in all players batting. After 20 overs Maleny had scored 53 runs, providing Palmwoods with victory. Under 12s On Saturday, Maleny s Under 12 team travelled to Glasshouse to take on the home side. The Redbacks batted first and Mitchell English led the way in the scoring department. Playing shots English hit numerous fours on his way to 19 runs. Lachlan Mackay batted out his allotted balls, while Tallis Corkin stood strong. The Redbacks scored 61 runs of their overs. Glasshouse showed their class with the bat playing a range of shots. Maleny found wickets hard to come by, but a stylish piece of fielding by Mitchell English saw Maleny claim a run out. Unfortunately the Redbacks couldn t claim another wicket and Glasshouse cruised to victory. Hamish White bowled with pace, while Tallis Corkin performed well claiming 0 for 1 off his 2 overs. The Redbacks next take on Caboolture.

Please contact:- Maree Hooley or Mobile Remembrance Day 2012 in Maleny At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted the allied terms of unconditional surrender. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. This tradition has been memorialised in Maleny with the traditional Remembrance Ceremony at the Maleny RSL Hall. Each year Australians observe one minute silence at 11 am on 11 November, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. The Maleny Light Horse Troop will lead a procession to the Maleny RSL Hall where a service will be held commencing at a.m. The Sunday Maleny Markets will still operate at the RSL Hall on that day. Be sure to mark your Remembrance Day on Sunday November 11th by buying a poppy from one of the RSL members.
