1 Great Night Out at Witta The Maleny Blackall Range Lions club entrant for the Lions Medical Research Foundation Personality Quest, Kirsten Grigor will be holding a Great Night out at Witta on Saturday November 29th commencing at 5.30p.m. at the Witta Recreation club, or should it be known on that night as the Witta Wreck Club? The entertainment of the night will be provided by Barnsey. Damien and Kirsten in conjunction have organized a Bachelor and Spinster inspired night, filled with great music, drinks and plenty of fun! The night is to raise funds for two great causes, Damien Mortaud and Lions Medical Research, so why not go along and take part in the Auction and Raffles. There is a special prize of a signed Reds jersey to be auctioned on the night. Camping at the grounds will be allowed on the nigh so take a swag and just enjoy what comes your way on the night. Entry costs $20 with tickets available at the gate on the night and identification is required as this is an 18+ aged event. Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc Sports Results for 13th October, 2014 Maleny Bowls Club starts night bowls no longer just once in a blue moon For some people the clouds may have spoilt the view of the total eclipse of the moon of Wednesday night but they could not dampen the spirits of those who attended the official beginning of night bowls in Maleny. With the flick of a switch by local State Member of Parliament, Mr. Andrew Powell the night was off to a great start as the lights lit up the green so that the games could begin. With about 60 bowlers on the green and many others just observing the crowd enjoyed a great social night. Whilst many of the bowlers were first time bowlers there were plenty members from the Maleny Bowls Club to give advice. Whether it be beginners luck or a sign of some talent, a number of the new bowlers were bowling right up to the mark. The night started off with a B.B.Q and a couple of social drinks to wind down after a stressful day at work. Many of those at the bowls club were waiting to see the eclipse of the moon. Unfortunately, just as it was all about to happen at about 8.30p.m. the moon was covered with a layer of clouds thus robbing them of the experience of watching the eclipse. The Maleny Bowls club intends to run a social evening of bowls each Wednesday night for the next few months. Maleny Bowls Club is an associate member of MDSARC Inc. Club website: Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc Range Croquet Club Maleny Results In club games last week Donna Manning and John McCarthy 13 v Ken Barker and Irene 10; Ken 18 v Vince Carbery 13, and Nick Cram and John 21 v Kath Smith 9. On Saturday morning, four of our newer recruits played a modified game of ricochet, with Ted Gardner and David Pearse scoring a 16 to 15 win over Sally Adams and Irene 15. On Thursday Val and Vince travelled to Coolum to play the locals in a ricochet pennant game. Our team didn t have success in the singles, but bounced back to record a good win in the doubles. There Yellow Ribbon Day are not too many days of the year when a R. F. Brigade is not at the scene of a fire somewhere in Queensland. It was very well patronised and thanks to all our Members who helped in any way to ensure its success. At time of writing there are 12 teams nominated for the Twilight Challenge which began last night and continues for a total of six weeks. This event is generously sponsored by the Maleny Credit Union with Score Cards and Prizes. Their support is greatly appreciated. Also our thanks to the Maleny Newsagency for their supply of writing instruments to use on the Score Cards. Tuesday s winners with two wins plus 14 were Sandra and John Kapetanic. The Touchers went to Cliff Deans, Diane Drew and Norm Lewis. The Jackpot wasn t won when Square was drawn from the barrel. Friday s Scroungers went to Steve Lawrence and Doug McGufficke on their respective rinks. No Sponsors Prize Winners were present to claim their winnings and the lucky Money Board Winner was John Lewis. The BBQ was quite well patronised and thanks to all the helpers. This week there was Jackpot Pairs/ Triples Tuesday, the first round of the Twilight Challenge Wednesday evening and there will be Scroungers Friday. A reminder that there is a nomination sheet at the Club for the Anonymous Challenge on November 29th. I know this seems far off but please nominate your team if you intend playing. Quite a few outside Clubs have been invited so you need to nominate before them. The game is two games of 12 ends of Open Fours. We will be holding a Michael Hall Master Class to introduce his latest vintages. Those who know excellent winemakers will want to try this year s offerings, and for those who don t, this will provide an excellent opportunity to be reacquainted with the wines produced by this self confessed wine nerd (see genius). This event will be held at Pallet Life Furniture and Cafe, on Maple street Maleny. Larry will be putting together a wonderful assortment of smoked meats, and salads for the night. 6 Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc Maleny Golf Club Last Tuesday eight members from our Player s Group travelled to Caboolture Golf Club for our usual second Tuesday Event. Our winner of the day was Joe Walters with 37 points, runner-up was Niel Cronk with 32 points, third place went to Garry Mayer with 30 points, and our Encouragement Award went to Denis Hickey. Last Thursday fifteen golfers played the nine hole competition which runs every Thursday afternoon, with hit off between 12 noon and 2.30 pm. Our winner was once again, Joe Walters, runner-up went to John Oxenham, third place Tom Kennedy, nearest the pin Chris Pottinger and our Encouragement Award went to our newest member, Angus MacMillan. 9 Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc Maleny Little Athletics Celebrating with Maleny Little Athletic s members on Saturday, Andrew Powell praised the continuing efforts of the club as they received just over $11,000 from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. The funds will be used to upgrade the clubhouse - otherwise known as The Shed. Well done to Maleny District Sport and Rec Club President Greg Williams and Maleny Little Athletics on another successful grant application. Mr Powell said. Maleny were far too good on the day, would like to blame the heat of 35 degrees. Thanks to Pauline for assisting us on the day. The Hitters lost. Wasps played really well in hot and blustery conditions at Mooloolaba on Wednesday - Annie, Stacey, Jeannie & Maree managing to win 27 games and 1 set. Whistlers had nice tight games. It was good to be back on the court after weeks off. And we had a win against Maroochydore Meteors. That was even better. Score was 46 to 35 games, 7 to 1 sets. Team was Liz Mellish, Brenda Warner, Aki Lepper and Maree Hooley. The Wildcats had a tough match against Noosa Doers. The Captain having to step in for an injured team member blamed all the stray shots and double faults on jetlag. The team of Pauline, Sue, Jeannie and Stacey were pipped at the post: 4 sets each, games. Social tennis Monday 8am, Thursday 7pm; Saturday 1pm. all welcome.
