1 Maleny Rangers U10 Girls Football Team Maleny Rangers under 10 girls football team competed in a Sunshine Coast Football carnival last Saturday. Prior to the carnival the girls had only played two games as a team as they are normally part of mixed teams. The girls played four games at the carnival and did not concede a single goal. They remained undefeated and displayed strong teamwork and sportsmanship. Some of the other teams had a number of 11 year olds but the Maleny girls weren t daunted and attacked at every opportunity. A great result for a great team. The Maleny Rangers Football home ground is the Maleny Showgrounds. 7 Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc The Maleny Bushrangers Senior Rugby Union Our second last home game for the 2014 season saw the opposition from Hervey Bay arrive by bus keen and ready to follow up on their last week s win over one of the top placed teams. Likewise, the Bushrangers were also keen and ready to defend their home territory. Bushrangers started on fire with a quick try which put the opposition immediately on the back foot. The Mariners tried to fight back but the Bushrangers remained strong and went into half time leading three tries to nil. The second half was a repeat of the first half with the Bushrangers again crossing the line three times and the Mariners unable to break the Bushrangers defence remaining scoreless. Congratulations to both teams for the great spectacle of rugby they displayed for their supporters who braved the unpredictable weather to cheer on their respective team. 8 Witta Tennis Witta Hinterland played Maroochydore Missile, great day for tennis - however Maroochydore Missiles proved to be the better team on the day. Thanks girls Claire, Liddy, Christine and Suzie. Rita wins the prize for having longer rallies than Djokovic does. That girl just keeps them going over that net. But, in spite of a big effort from all 4 Hitter team members, Tewantin won the day on games and 5 sets to 3, but two of the lost sets were 6-5. Luckily they were a nice team and, one of them was having a birthday, so the day was full of good tennis ( rallies, rallies, rallies ) and good humour. Wasps had one of their best performances to date against Maroochydore Meteors on Wednesday. A slow start eventually led to a lovely 27 games and 2 sets to 44 games and 6 sets. Great day out - well played Chris, Annie, Jeannie & Maree. It was another close one for the Wildcats. It came down to the last set. The team of Pauline, Sue, Jeannie and Stacey fought hard all day and pulled it off winning 4 sets each games. The Whistlers played at Maroochydore. We had lots of long rallies and lots of deuces. We got it right in the end and brought home a good win. Score was games, 6-2 sets. Team was Maree Hooley, Liz Mellish, Donna Kuskopf and Aki Lepper. Social tennis: Monday 8am, Thursday 7pm; Saturday 1pm, Sunday 9am all welcome. Enquiries and court hire to or via the web site: Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc The Maleny Neighbourhood Centre HAVE YOU BEEN WAITING TO DO SOME WORK FOR YOUR COMMUNITY? NOW S YOUR CHANCE! The Maleny Neighbourhood Centre has been given a wonderful opportunity to raise much needed funding for our Emergency Relief activities. The organisers of the Real Food Festival are wishing to keep packaging $$s in Maleny, rather than outsourcing to a commercial packing centre. Your task, if you chose to accept, from 01 Sept - 06 Sept, will be monotonous but FUN, need no thought, just walking around tables packing inserts into bags, with friends, chocolate cake, yoga, music, good coffee and a pedometer (to keep). If you would like to be a part of this activity, please let us know by calling M - F 9am - 3pm. Witta Tennis Club TENNIS COACHING AVAILABLE WITH Katya Saturday morning Juniors Juniors 9 10 Adults 10 onwards Thursday afternoon Adults Juniors 4 6 Adults 6 onwards Still spaces available for Juniors and adults, group or individual bookings. Please contact:- Maree Hooley or Mobile WHAT NEXT FOR THE HINTERLAND BUS SERVICE? FIX THE TIMETABLE! As you know Maleny Neighbourhood Centre has been campaigning to save the Hinterland Bus service AND the service has been extended for one more year. Now we have until the 18th August to let the Council know about the timetable changes so that this service is more effective. Having a bus that does not meet the train or leave at a time that suits your schedule, is a little like having a bus without wheels. We need your input! Please let us know NOW of any timetable problems, or near missed links with other public transport timetables (buses, trains). Please contact the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre as soon as possible. The Centre is in Bicentenial Lane, Maleny and is open Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm. You can mail: admin@malenync.org.au, or phone: Make your club known to the community This space and more could be where your MDSARC Inc affiliated club can present itself to the Maleny community. It is as simple as becoming a member of the MDSARC Inc and ling your weekly news each Monday to gail@mavmuse.com
