1 Despite the threatening storm front last Thursday, there was a a very good roll up from Maleny s community clubs to the Aussie Expo Information evening. It was great to have the Hinterland Time s Heatley Gilmore talk of what being a major sponsor means, with he and Michelle looking forward to promoting this community event in both their December and January editions. Event sponsor Maleny Credit Union also invited all community group reps to Christmas drinks in their forecourt on Thursday 11th December from 5.00 pm to celebrate this year s achievements together. Tips and advice on how to get the most out of your club display was welcomed by attendees, and many booked their spot already. With the busy organising committee made up from representatives from all of Maleny s service organisations plus hosts MDSRC, The Maleny Showgrounds is definitely going to be the place for families to hang out together on January 26th. Kicking off with the Great Aussie Breakfast served up by the Apex Club of Maleny, and the Maleny Singers accompanying the Flag Raising and New Citizen s Ceremony, it s then free entry for all to the fun, displays and games on the oval at the Sport & Rec Expo until There will be demonstrations, interactive games for the kids, food, and displays from Maleny s many and varied community groups will make for a wonderful morning out, and you can win fantastic family prizes in the Expo Passport Draw simply by collecting a stamp from each display! 3 Twilight bowls continues in Maleny A terrific six week series of bowling fun at Maleny Bowls Club saw the team of Margaret Ginns, Lynn Anderson and Tom Anderson secure their place on the inaugural trophy as winners of the Six Week Challenge last Wednesday. Twilight bowling continues each Wednesday - join in at 6.00 pm! The Runners-up with plus nine in the second game were the local pair of John Kapetanic and Warwick Moody. The raffle went to Curley Petersen but the Jackpot wasn t won. Tuesday s Jackpot winners with two wins plus nine were Don Ginns and Peter Duffy. Once again the Jackpot proved elusive and wasn t won. MALENY CHESS CLUB Playing this ancient game provides an opportunity to keep the mind active in a convivial and friendly atmosphere. Wednesday evening the Social Bowls went to the Chalkies on countback, both teams having plus nine. The winners were Graeme Glover, Brad Williams and Greg Williams. There were no Bowls played Friday and no winning Members were present to claim their prizes. Les Bennett won the raffle. This week there is Jackpot Pairs both a.m. and p.m. Tuesday, Social Bowls Wednesday evening and the Christmas Party Friday evening. Don t forget the afternoon social time at the Bowls Club Bar so come along and join the boys! QUOTA INTERNATIONAL MALENY Quota International Maleny meet first Tuesday of each month, 6.30 for 7.00pm at Tranquil Park. We are a women s service organisation dealing with disadvantaged women & children; Speech & Hearing and with the hearing impaired in 269 communities in 12 countries around the world. 4 Carols at Twilight 2014 Harness your reindeer and polish your sleigh! Come along to the Maleny RSL on Friday 19 December for some jingling bells and catchy carols. The Maleny Singers are once again teaming up with the Nambour Salvation Army Band to pr esent Carols at Twilight. The programme includes a lovely selection of well - known carols as well as some you may not have heard before. Entry is free and the evening s festivities will commence at 6.45pm. Refreshments are available at the bar and there is plenty of seating inside, so don t worry about the weather. Bring along your best singing voice, so you can join family and friends and good neighbours and enjoy an evening of Christmas spirit and friendly socialisation. All range residents and visitors, senior and junior, are invited along for an evening of family friendly fun - and to test and improve their skills at this great game. Costs: $ 4.00 an adult; $ 3.00 per child, or $ per family (2 adults and 1 or more children, or 1 adult and more than 2 children) Until the club can accumulate more equipment, players are asked to please bring along your own bats. Anzac Dawn is the main commemorative event for the Sunshine Coast to be held at the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show in Nambour with performances on Friday 12, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June Being a commemoration of the First World War and therefore honouring the many young Australian and New Zealand men who fought and suffered or died in the war, the involvement of men will be a major feature of this event. Anzac Dawn is a musical drama for soloists, chorus and orchestra. It will be the main evening attraction at the Show and will be presented as an arena production. For this reason I would like to ask you to invite your members to consider joining up for a place in the male chorus. Paul Coppens (composer/ conductor living in Buderim) who has been commissioned to write the music Calling all Men! for ANZAC Dawn, and David Crewe from the Maleny Players will be happy to coach willing members in singing etc. No previous experience in singing is required, just a willingness to give it a go! As this project will be close to the hearts of most Australians, community support should be substantial. 6 Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc Maleny Street Carnival The Maleny Street Carnival will be held on Friday December 12th between 6pm and 10pm. things are going before he starts his very busy Christmas delivery service. This will be an annual brief period of time when cars disappear and our community fills Maple Street to enjoy the music, creativity, food, rides, fun, family and friends. There will be plenty to do for all ages. Included will be a wide range of live music and entertainment for everyone. Most importantly, Santa will call in on the night just to check out how So, why not join in this great night and taste the great Maleny community spirit Sports Expo & Apex Aussie BBQ! Last year, almost 2,000 people visited the Aussie Day Expo in Maleny. If your community organisation would like to find out how you can successfully display what you do and attract new volunteers to your group, in one fun morning on January 26th, please attend the information evening at the RSL Hall.
