The Sir ~ LAKE TAHOE BRANCH 160~ CHARTERED APRIL 22, 1991 RETIRED AND SEMI-RETIRED MEN GETTING TOGETHER FOR LUNCH AND ENJOYING OUR VARIOUS ACTIVITIES HIGH MOUNTAIN NEWS APRIL 2016 Next reg. meeting our 307TH APRIL 25, We meet at Tep s Villa Roma Officers & Chairmen 10:00am Lake Tahoe Blvd (Hiway50) Social hour 11:00am South Lake Tahoe, California Luncheon..12:00noon.Across from the Bijou Center Hi everyone! Winter is gone and spring has come. It's good to be back and to be playing golf with everyone. Our first few tournaments have been fantastic! Weather conditions and the courses are in good shape for early spring. Thank you Ron Thompson for all your hard work putting our golf tournaments together! A special thanks to Larry Coffman for standing in as Big Sir for the past two months. I will be attending a SIRs regional meeting on May 12th in El Dorado Hills to complete the 2016 RAMP projects final presentation. I will report about this meeting in next month's newsletter to bring our members up to date. If anyone is interested in attending this meeting with me, please let me know. Big Sir Van Marshall 1.

Little Sir Larry Coffman To start of with I want to thank Mike Davis for taking care of business while Van and I were gone in March. Also I would like to thank George Ramirez for picking up, putting it together and mailing the newsletter for me, it is greatly appreciated. With our picnic coming up in July it is never to soon to recruit members to help in picking up items for the picnic. I will be asking for your help on this. Our golf chairman wants to let you know if you are not receiving any updates on SIR golf, you need to send your address to Ed Dworak at EDworak@charter.net. He is the Handicap person. That way you can stay up with what is going on in SIR golf. Our speaker this month comes to us from the City of Lake Tahoe, Windy David, Mayor of Lake Tahoe. I am sure she will enlighten us on the happenings in Lake Tahoe for the coming year. CELEBRATING TWENTY FIVE YEARS SONS IN RETIREMENT LAKE TAHOE BRANCH 160, INC. April 22, 1991 CHARTER MEMBERS STILL ACTIVE HERB WHEELER KEN KOEGL THE REGULAR, NORMAL GUYS IN THIS CLUB SALUTE YOU GENTLEMAN. 2.

25 years ago... how time flies! LAKE TAHOE BRANCH 160 FOUNDERS DAY OCTOBER 31, 1990 Back in the summer of 1990, SIR Area governor Campbell O'Neill from Placerville's Hangtown Branch 29 ran an ad in our local newspaper asking retired men to attend an informational meeting concerning the establishment of a Branch of SIR at Lake Tahoe. The meeting was held at the old 89 Bar & Grill on Emerald Bay Road, and was attended by half a dozen locals and four men from Branch 29. Six local men spread the word and ran newspaper ads and put out fliers and the response was great. Right away they moved the luncheons to Carrow's Restaurant for several meetings before moving to Timber Cove Lodge (soup and sandwiches served by "Angie's"). We now meet at Teps Villa Roma. On October 31, 1990, the SIR State organization granted probationary status to the new Branch 160. Probation was to continue until the new Branch could show a total membership of 75 men, at which time we would be officially chartered. That happened on April 22, This club has grown to well over 100 members, some of whom are very involved in our activities, and serving on committees and as officers. It is important that we continue to grow in membership, because that makes it a lot easier to find officers and committeemen, and increases our monthly donations so we don't have to sweat that out so much. When one of the many SIR Branches folds up, more often than not it is because the guys won't help out by filling the leadership chairs. Those are a couple of selfish reasons for bringing in new members. But consider this retired and semi-retired men living everywhere from Woodfords and Meyers, through South Lake Tahoe and Stateline, up both sides of The Lake and down in The Carson Valley these guys need us as much as we need them! When you invite an acquaintance to be a guest at the luncheon and he decides to join, figure you have done him a big favor. He doesn t need to become real active, if only he enjoys the monthly luncheon as a social event, that s fine. And who knows there may be some real talent among these fellows. 3.

APRIL 2016 BRANCH 160 BOWLING REPORT In my March memo to SIR Bowlers and Friends, I reported that the number of participants in the SIR Branch 160 Friday recreational bowling program has been declining significantly over the past several months. Declining participation is especially apparent for the second Friday of the month at Tahoe Bowl; participation on the fourth Friday at Gold Dust West is better but not stellar. I proposed we try the following experiment for the Month of March. Here s what happened: Meet on Friday noon March 11 (the second Friday) at Tahoe Bowl with Bobby and let s see what happens, and then make decisions, if necessary, at that time depending on who shows up to participate. Six people showed up, only two of whom were from the Tahoe area. Not marvelous Meet on Friday March 25 (the fourth Friday) at ~ 10:45 at Gold Dust West and participate in their Friday Senior Monte Carlo program. It 11:00 am and costs $8.00 per person with 3 Strike Pot tickets for $1.00 (limit is $5.00 max). It is a great program. We SIRs could be grouped together and play our card game and other activities as we have been doing within the framework of GDW s Monte Carlo program. As I remember, about ten SIR-affiliated bowlers appeared, a couple of them at the regular time of noon Better, but not really stellar participation. However, the Monte Carlo format at GDW seemed to meet with everyone s approval. Given these results, I recommend that the SIR and Friends group plan to meet every second and fourth Friday of each month at Carson City and join GDW s Monte Carlo tournament. We can be grouped together and play our usual poker game for $$$. Let s give this a try! Please participate and see if we cannot bring new life and spirit into our SIR recreational program. Remember SIRs and our friends can participate! Please recruit new members and friends to join us! Here is pertinent information about pending tournaments that might be of interest to you: 1. SIR State Annual Tournament at Clover Leaf Bowl in Fremont, California, will be held on Sunday May 1 st, Monday May 2 nd and Tuesday May 3 rd. This tournament is for SIRs and their guests and includes singles, doubles, team and all events. Applications can be found on the SIR web site (sirinc.org) or by contacting Del Locke, the Tournament Manager, at (707) Tim Hall, Branch 160 Bowling Tournament Manager Lake Tahoe Branch 160 Badge Color Scheme Charter Member RED Honorary Life Member GOLD New Member BLUE the rest of us BLACK. When you see a badge with BLUE lettering indicating a NEWER MEMBER, be sure to make him feel welcome. We must not miss 3 consecutive meetings without notifying the Attendance Chairman and being excused. Whether or not we have been excused, we still must attend at least half the meetings during the previous 12 months period. 4.

We are still in need of a recruiter and a person to do publicity for our branch. I know if we have members step up and tackle these positions we can increase our membership. So think about it and step up. If you would like to do this I would be glad to help out as our board of directors would also help.
