I greatly encourage you to support the new and current leaders by volunteering your tme and services to contnue to make this Club a success. Our volunteers are vital and make this Club possible. Whether your interests are in improving our fshing habitats, educatng young fshers, assistng new fy fshers or our veterans in fy tying, rod building, castng, or fshing, or just making new fshing friends, being a volunteer will make you feel good about partcipatng. We are involved in a variety of worthwhile actvites and administratve functons so there is something for everyone and it s easy to partcipate. When there is a call for volunteers just raise your hand, get on the sign-up sheet, or otherwise contact one of our chairpersons, commitee leaders, or ofcers and tell them you would like to help. Volunteering to help is a two-way street, you give but you also gain. Thanks for all your help in the past and I ll be seeing you on the lake. Now Past President, Dennis Jones 1

2 Announcements July Speaker: Dr. Gary Hall will talk about ocean fy fshing of San Carlos/Guyamus Mexico. Note!!! Gary will be giving a demonstraton showing how to te one of his salt water fies at 5:30pm before the start of the meetng. August Speaker: Cinda Howard, professional Guide in the White Mountains of AZ. She will be speaking about the streams & lakes of the White Mountains. Open Club Positons: We need someone to be the Club Librarian, the Educaton Chair and our representatve to the IFFF (Internatonal Federaton of Fly Fishers). Banquet Report By Steve Hofmann Hope you all had fun at the annual WMFFC banquet. As you probably already know we had lots of donatons this year (over 200 rafe items) from local businesses, vendors from AZ and throughout out the USA. The proceeds from the banquet will be used to funds conservaton of local streams and lakes and various local charitable programs like Project Healing Waters. Thanks again to all who donated and a special thanks to Gary and Doris Miller, banquet chair persons. All-in-all, the banquet raised ~$

4 Status Tiger Trout, Etc By Mike Styvaert The current status is "waitng for paperwork". How governmental. Game and Fish is obtaining "fngerlings", with the exact size unknown depending on when they actually ship them, from Utah. The shipment is awaitng a "clean bill of health" on the fsh before they can be allowed into the state. They must be certfed to be free from such things as Whirling Disease, etc. When they arrive they will either go to Canyon Creek Hatchery or Tonto Creek, depending on space available. If there is no space, they will come to the new grow out ponds behind Game and Fish, Pinetop. They will be stocked in the spring when they grow to "catchable" size. This should work well as that is when the most food is present in our local waters. Much beter for the fsh than a fall stocking. I purchased two Whitlock-Vibert Boxes and a CD of the 47 page manual (I really did not want to download and print it). IFFF shipped them to me and I have given then to Msrs. Lopez who both have plans to use them to stock back country streams. It is much easier to transport eggs than milk cans of fry. Fish and Wildlife have also become interested. During my research on how to stock the hinterland, I saw other ideas that I may pursue in more detail. But for now it appears we have a workable soluton for stocking remote streams. Editor's Note For those of you who are not familiar with a Whitlock-Vibert box; it is a device that contains fsh eggs and is planted in a stream where the eggs will hatch into fry. It provides a safe environment for the eggs and the emerging fry untl they are large enough to swim free in the stream. More details and a video can be found here. 4

Project Healing Waters - Round 2: On June 16th, the second of several classes for local vets was conducted.

The proper knots to use to make the various connectons were also presented. The class got involved with practcing their knots skills.

The class ended with Rick Tesinsky showing how to te the famous Arizona Peacock lady fy.

Club helpers were: Steve Hofmann, Barry Curseaden and Rick Tesinsky.

5 Project Healing Waters - Round 2: On June 16th, the second of several classes for local vets was conducted. Ted Lambert led the class, which included lesions on fy rod set-up, leaders and tps. The proper knots to use to make the various connectons were also presented. The class got involved with practcing their knots skills. A review of castng basics strokes was demonstrated with the practce rods. The class ended with Rick Tesinsky showing how to te the famous Arizona Peacock lady fy. Vets present were Eric Schmidt, Len Croteau, Kevin Widnier, Jody Reidenhour, and Rob Javey. Club helpers were: Steve Hofmann, Barry Curseaden and Rick Tesinsky. The June 23rd schedule is: Fishing boats, boatng safety, Wading streams and lakes, and fy tying. The fies to be ted are: Elk Hair Caddis and the Parachute Adams. Ted Lambert led the class, with help from Steve Hofmann. The class started with free Pizza. The Vets present were the same as round 2. Ted went over basic boat and stream fshing safety. At the end of the class Ted and Steve showed the class how to te the Grifth s Gnat dry fy. 5

8 June Monthly Meeting Minutes Submitted by Ellen Hofmann General Business Meeting: June 15, 2015 Meetng was held at RT Bull s in Show Low, started at 8:30 AM. The following Board Members were present: Dennis Jones, Ted Lambert, Gary Miller, Doris Miller, Don Gage, Steve Hofmann, Ellen Hofmann. Absent Board Member: Bob Bowers The following General Members were present: Barry Curseaden, Bob Henry and Ted Lane 1. Finance Report: Doris Miller stated at this tme the balance of the WMFFC account. 2. Banquet Report: Gary Miller presented a print out to all people present with all expenses and income from the banquet. Net income from banquet was $3, (A report will be available to members upon request). A discussion followed regarding the planning and possible changes to the banquet in No specifc fnal decisions were made at this tme. Gary Miller and Bob Henry will both contact James Hillebrand from Torreon for next years Banquet date in June San Juan Wounded Veterans Outng: Barry Curseaden has started planning of the Wounded Veterans trip to the San Juan River in NM in October He made reservaton at Abe s for October for 4-5 rooms and is trying to secure Pat North as a guide and maybe Bob DeRosier of Paradise Creek Anglers. Barry will also contact Fish Heads to see what their rates are for rooms and guides etc. Barry has contacts in the Valley (greater Phoenix area) regarding Vets that will be able to partcipate since it is preferred to use Vets from AZ. There might be a Vet ready to go from Ted Lamberts Healing Waters program also. Barry also mentoned that there might be possibilites for corporate sponsor ships. A discussion was held regarding the fnancial support the club was going to give to the outng. A Moton was made by Ellen Hofmann to spend at maximum of $3,000 for the outng this year. The Moton seconded by Gary Miller and all were in favor. 4. General items brought up by Steve Hofmann Trailer Storage: Trailer is stored at U-Haul in Lakeside. No member has volunteered to store it at his/her place this tme so we contnue with paid storage at U-Haul. Castng Pond: Ellen & Steve Hofmann went over to the castng pond Wednesday June 10th with a weed eater and hoe and cleared the weeds. They had thought that Ted Lambert would need the pond for the PHW program for castng lesions. Bob Bowers talked about buying new fabric and new bark but afer the weed clean-up and weed spraying (to be done next week). Most likely afer weed spraying, there will not be any more work or materials needed this year. New Board: At the July 15 meetng the new board will be introduced. Club Booth for White Mountain Wildlife/Nature Center discovery Programs July 18 th Steve Hofmann was approached to have the WMFFC sponsor the July 18 event at the Nature Center in Pinetop. The event covers fsh species displays found in AZ. Sponsor ship is $100. It will be PR for the WMFFC and there is a potental for new members. Gary Miller motoned to sponsor for $100, 8

9 seconded by Don Gage and all in favor. CASA Event June 20th at Fool Hollow Lake: If you want to volunteer go to the Lake around 8:30 am. Events starts at around 9 am Membership renewal: It was suggested to change the yearly membership period from Jan-to-Jan startng January All members would pay $15 for renewal next month and in January 2016 the fee would be $30 for the entre year tll January A discussion followed. Don Gage made a moton to change the membership dues from Jan-to-Jan with a $15 in dues payable for the rest of 2015 due this July. Moton seconded by Ellen Hofmann and all in favor. All members will have to fll out the membership applicaton form every year and if necessary change their Insurance update: Local agent, Phyllis, from Lon Hofmann will review (as a favor) our new insurance policy and will explain it all at a board meetng. The main Issue will be if there stll are only 4 events per year covered by the new insurance. IFFF (Internatonal Federaton of Fly fshers) Representatve: Now that we have our club insurance policy as an associate member of the IFFF, the WMFFC will need to appoint a club representatve that will keep the Club informed of issues regarding IFFF. The club representatve will also try to encourage WMFFC members to sign up as IFFF member. At the next general meetng an announcement will be made and hopefully a member will step forward to become the representatve. Meetng adjourned at 10 am. 9
